Bed right next to crafting table. Walls are for the scaredy cats. I stopped building actual houses long ago. I just make sure the immediate area is clear of mobs and goto sleep. A couple nights I've woken up to arrows in the side of my bed, but the sun is up and skeleton's on fire. Pull out my sword and dispatch it for the exp.
Best way to get them there would be to explore elsewhere till you find what you want, then use wheat to lure them to where you want them. If you want more, find at least 2 and make them breed using wheat. Other than that, use a mod to spawn the animals you want.
I got this hack/mod thing or whatever you want to call it that lets you edit your level its really easy to use its called nbtedit yes it does work for mp its not a virus after your done installing it link: CENSORED just launch it open the files go into level.dat go to xp click on xp enter in a number be sure to press enter and save and your done.For multiplayer do the same thing but go into your world and into players then just open that file with nbtedit

Been playing since early Alpha, and I agree with a lot of people here. The game (like every single task in the world and beyond) does get easier the more I play. That's why I host my own private server for my friends. I help them build stuff and get going on the game. I also play with various mods to enhance game play. On my current save, I'm doing it without a house. My bed is out in the open. If I wait too long to sleep, I have to kill the mobs in the immediate area before I can sleep. Several nights I've had arrows beg my bedside just before I wake up.

He needs to just treat it like one entity. Open, close. 1 Redstone current for both (not each). Would simplify redstone circuits and make everyone's life easier. Until you try to open just one to kill the creeper pushing up against the other....
Can't miss what isn't gone. Saved the jar files for previous versions. Just build a world and explore a bit, then switch back to current version to play. I rarely do that, or would even want to, because I'd miss out on TONS of features only available upon world creation using the newer versions.
You can also do that without ANY mods. Just use a dummy server (or real one). Set the "gamemode=" line in the config to 1 for creative, 0 for survival. Done.
And next time you make a hardcore world, expect it to be deleted along with all your hard work when you die. That's what the mode is for.
With the industrial craft mod, you can make a terraformer and create an area around it like other biomes, but it doesn't actually change the biome. If you make grass in the desert, it still won't rain. If you crate snow in the plains, you'll get rain instead of snow. It's also not updated for 1.0 yet.

Only issues I've seen so far are lighting glitches on top of chests and I'm unable to eat anything. I tried raw and cooked, put it in my hand and right clicked. Nothing.
Slow FPS to start with. I had to go in and turn Advanced Open GL off again. My vid card doesn't like it. First animal I saw was a wolf, so I like it so far.
