darkthero? i have no idea. mine is working fine :/

and iPope, sir, i know it will most likeley not be accepted. and now that you mention it, i somewhat doubt permanent teams, for the lack of members actualy being there. most likeley it'll just be 'fort blah needs more 3rd engineers, and we have plenty. send all but one.' or something like that. spur of the moment who needs what kind of thing.

i still say that once all the battalkons are set up, we need a... manual, for each. just a guide on rules and possibly strategies, to go beyond the general descriptions and jobs.

edit:*** i was wrong. minecraft hates me. google says the link is broken :tongue.gif:

    i dont know if i said it before, appearently not;
i have to worry about it for this reason: if we only have one of each division, we can only have one settlement... it would be LOADS more efficient to have the one all-purpose squad, rather than many specific ones. besides, who really wants to be stuck gathering resources permanently?

one final note for now, mainly @ shapeshiftr:
after a while the 3rd leaves and the 4th rolls in, (at least most of us leave) unless of course it's a frontier colony, not a city. then we'd most likeley be there to build, gather, and export resources.

oh, and i won't call you sir if you're under me (i think thats how it works)
and i won't call you sir if i don't know whether you're under or above me.
i will call you sir when i know you're above me.
i may call you sir if you're under me, but only if i deem it fit.
if i don't call you sir, i just call you your name.

    how i work now... haha

    @shapeshiftr
I've just realized the fallicy of our large squads.. we simply dont have enough people.
let me put it this way,
your builder squads, engineer squads, and gatherer squads can be combined, as a working settlement shouldnt have guys waiting idly by while others gather resources and then have 4 more guys devoted to building about 2 or 3 things every ten minutes. as far as i'm concerned, every soldier, given the resources, can build a sword just as well as anyone else can.
this is why i thought the 'leader is highest rank' thing worked: town leader notices 'we dont have much wood, we need a wall, and we need new armor for the 1st battalion soldiers that just arrived.' and so he tells that to the engineers, issues orders, and voila', it's all getting done.

and you're right about the demolitioners, although even they could be condensed into the leader/analyst and his specialist, both with the sapping and demolition specialties. 2 rather than 3. it's simply put, more efficient use of human resources.

as for the squads making better moral, you're right. every squad would have around 3 or sometimes 4 people, a leader and two resource gatherers/builders/crafters. this would encourage team growth, and, again, provide efficient use of human resources. since 1 person alone can build a kingdom in a day, i'm sure 3 can build a village in a few minutes.

after a quick thought though, we dont need crafters for the whole military. think, we just get the resources, and the leader of a settlement decides what to do with them. this spreads the work on a needed, streamlined basis, rather than going through us first, which would effectivley make us red tape. without this problem, we are very quick and very efficient workers..

as for the colors, i think roygbiv would work easiest so someone can tell who is higher than another rather than just brown is better than red which is better than violet which is beter than silver, etc.

    quick example:
    nothing:recruit
    r:corporals
    o:sergeants
    y:officers
    g:liutenants
    b:captain
    i:major
    v:colonels
    silver:brig. Gen.
    gold:major gen.
    .
give me a minute and i'll make a spreadsheet. (that may have to be downloaded.., but that'd only take a sec for you to do anyway.)
EDIT: link to chart on colors. (i made it in mc office, then sent it over to paint.)

first:One thing to be able to make a wee bit more sense of this: I’m for putting in new ‘specialist’ ranks.
second:i feel oddly awkward putting this up.. :/

Okay, so this is what this thing is: I like the organization and discipline, and I think it should be different for each battalion based on what they do. This is NOT anything official, as I definitely lack the rank to do anything along those lines. This is more of a big pack of suggestions as to how things could work, and I think also that it is just complicated enough to work, while being simple enough to generalize and understand. I hope I don’t make myself seem ‘holier than thou’ with this, but like I said, I think that each battalion should have something like this, to go along with IPope’s ‘general orders.’

    3rd Engineer Battalion, RMM.
    Peace through Prosperity
    Commanding Officer: Major Shapeshiftr
The battalion that gives us a foothold, a beachhead, or a start point in both friendly and enemy territory. The men of the 3rd are skilled at quick, rough building, and can quickly get us the resources and materials we need to establish a presence anywhere. They can mine, farm, and gather lumber. They are organized, thoughtful men who know how to make a fort from anything. And when desperate measures are required, the 3rd can tear anything the enemy builds to the ground. This battalion is what fuels everything the RMM does with a steady supply of stone and steel, while still capable of beating a griefer to death with a hatchet.

edit: obviously, this part above is copied, but that's so theres a general description, and a good one at that.

    Standards(?)

    Specialists:
    1.Teams
‘The battalion that gives us a foothold, a beachhead, or a start point’
The only specialist teams I can think of that are useful are the demolition squads. Read down in War:2 for more information on them. It would be up to the high leaders to decide where the ‘specialist’ rank would fit in, if at all. (the rank would apply to all battalions, but they’d have different kinds of specialists, if any.) There could also be different specialist ranks, to make specialist corporals, specialist sergeants, specialist lieutenants, etc. This would allow advancement to specialist, so veteran specialists could both keep the job they’re good at, and advance in the RMM.

    Leadership:
    1.Leaders
    ‘They are organized, thoughtful men’
There are a few ways this could be done, but I think the simplest and most effective one is this; every settlement has a leader appointed, based on who in the outpost/town/fort is highest ranked. (limited to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Battalions, as the 1st would be unreliable to stay.)

    2.Engineer leaders.
    ‘establish a presence anywhere’
These leaders are only leaders in the sense of what needs to be built first, how many, and of what. Again, the simplest and probably most effective way is just by the highest ranking (but this time limited to the 3rd Battalion) engineer.

    War:
    1. Fighting.
‘capable of beating a griefer to death with a hatchet.’
Because many engineers of the 3rd will be building on the front lines, they may be forced to carry a stone or, at least, a wooden sword. This is the Royal Minecraft Militia, after all. There’s not much else to say about that, as it’s mostly self explainable.

    2. Demolition.
‘the 3rd can tear anything the enemy built to the ground.’
Personally, I don’t believe that this would be used in desperacy at all. Some ‘elite’ members of the 3rd could be trained more than the others of their battalion in the role of combat. These demolitioners could be an auxillary fighting force, or the first in.
Example: A demolitioner team could consist of: Team leader/Analyzer, Petard, and a Sapper. All would be capable of tearing apart buildings as well. The team leader/analyzer would have the obvious job of saying when and where to strike. The petard is the domolitioner of the group and uses tnt to the fullest of effect (with what training can be spared, since tnt is hard to acquire, he would have to learn block properties.), and a sapper would be the one who found the best way to infiltrate from the underground, and would be digging the passages for attack. All would be equipped with the necessary items for their roles, and all would have at least wooden picks, shovels, and axes. They could also equally build small defenses for the attackers to approach from, as any engineer (and most soldiers) could do.

    3. Armor.
    ‘desperate measures’
Armor would most likely be leather, if anything at all. A wealthy member of the 3rd could possibly buy his own better armor if allowed, but otherwise (unless part of the demolition/specialist squads) they would just have their uniforms. (and maybe the wool armor they were issued, if so.)

shapeshiftr, i do believe i'm under your command. give me a general time throughout a day or two to come meet you and i'll certainly try my best to do so. (which is almost certain, given that something random doesn't come up.)

if i misread anything aobut times, i appologize. a bit of sleep deprivation does that to a man. Actualy, i forgot half of what you said.... either way, a time would be good. :smile.gif:

(while a wee bit off topic) after a deal of thinking about it, i have decided that i'd rather be in the 3rd battalion. the 4th is too... designed for me? it's too large, i've never built things for more than 10 or so people to live in/defend. and my buildings almost always look, if not somewhat impressive on the inside, rather plain on the out.

i like the 3rd because i love building small defenses, such as trenches or small forts, or mountain bases, and my skill with them would probobaly be most beneficial over anything. I thought about joining the 2nd because defense is something we will need regardless of whether or not we understand SMP yet, but i think i'd do better in the 3rd.
i would've gone to the forums about this, but..

thanks, and i jknow this isn't going to be too useful now, but i thought i'd give a head's up?

*edit* oh, and i can't get the black dress formal skin.

i want animals, that way you can get string and the such from them, rather than mobs, which is more... realistic, and i think fun. the new blocks were a close second, for the sulfur could be made from some new block, allowing TNT mines. then after that, i wanted boats.

Basicaly, i want to get rid of 'zombies drop feathers (chickens)', 'spiders drop string (either a new flower-like plant, or an animal like a horse, or just made out of wool)' etc.
