posted a message on New Mobs, animals

Wow there's a lot to unpack here, so I'll just cover a few things:

I think more passive mobs should be added with their own unique functions for two reasons: populate the world with more diverse life, and make a player choose which animals to farm and in what amount, since farming all the animals at max capacity would become unmanageable and thus encourage a player to choose what resource they want more of.

Beavers would be a neat addition if they didn't have too much function. I think flooding rivers is a bit much, but it would be neat to come across a 1-4 block pile of sticks in a river (so found in river biomes only) with beavers coming and going from them like bees do with hives. What function would they serve? Don't know yet. But as a potential addition I like this idea. The dams would be able to hold back water, but water going over them would cause them to pop into a few sticks.

I don't know if we need any more mobs giving us items (villagers and cats for example already do this), but I don't necessarily think any mob needs to have a big new function in order to be considered. Bear variants that go for hives and cause the bees to get temporarily annoyed and drop the honey value to zero sounds reasonable to me. Birds that fly with modified bat AI would be another nice addition. They wouldn't do much of anything outside of making the world look more pretty and dynamic, but that's the point of most of the animals I can see being added.

posted a message on Get broken Glass if you break glass without Silk touch

I thought OP meant broken glass as in a broken texture and a hitbox that arrows could fly through, mostly for use in rundown-themed builds. Either way I give support!

Support scorrp10's take on it... Mobs are peaceful and completely neutral until hit directly by the player.

posted a message on Ocean waves and wind

It would need a massive amount of thought to get it right, but as you've laid out here I give partial support. I like the idea of wind as a purely visual thing, but there are questions to be asked about lag especially in jungles. We'd have to see a mod to know how it would actually play with the other kids though.

For the waves, I can imagine an ocean where the water would rise by a few fractions of a block like snow layers, then fall by the same, and it would oscillate gently around the normal height. The front side of the wave would be flowing for a few ticks while rising, but the back wouldn't do the same so the overall effect would carry boats and stuff back towards land. When the wave contacts land, the water would flow inland like 3 blocks or so and then dissipate like after breaking a source block. Redstone and plants placed in the tidal area would pop, and fish that somehow get caught riding the wave would potentially get beached when the water fades to nothing, leaving the occasional sea item on the shore like squids do now. The most difficult thing would be figuring out which directions the waves go since MC worlds are so broken up, and how far out to put them because where would they originate from unless they only happen near landmasses... Once again there may also be lag, but I do think it would increase the visual dynamics significantly. Support for waves once we figure out a good way to do it on the technical optimization side.

posted a message on Replace the terms 'whitelist'and'blacklist'with more inclusive alternatives

Should we call up every Spanish-speaking country and tell them that saying "black" ("negro") is illegal? When do we stop?

If you honestly think that the solution to historic Jim Crow is to ban the distinction between colors- not even contextually about races- today, might I suggest that you're just changing stuff for the sake of changing stuff, not attempting to achieve any meaningful goal. You can put the greatest of intentions behind what you're suggesting here, but that doesn't make the action any less counterproductive.

As Steven Crowder said recently, the BLM movement and the riots pasted all over the MSM have created more first-time gun owners, and more racists. The civil rights movement had the correct intention behind it, but now BLM blacks have taken it to the point that they demand that us whites confess our "white privilege" and pay them reparations, and if you dont they'll assault you and then burn your business to the ground... This is the progressivism that serious conservatives fight against tooth and nail at step one, and in this particular case the step one is not having Mojang change universal coding terms for everybody to accommodate one person's fragile psyche.

We've eradicated all systemic racism in the US. More trainings and "corrective measures" (ie. reparations) are ineffective and pointless at best, and will breed more racism in the younger generation at worst, so be careful what you push for.

I don't know why this thread is still here. I figured it would be taken down by now, if that's something MC forum does...

OP posted this on June 14th (2 weeks ago) and hasn't responded at all. I'm sensing a troll here...

posted a message on Replace the terms 'whitelist'and'blacklist'with more inclusive alternatives

Maybe we should stop catering to old dogs and actually just fix these things without stopping to ask if some old farts are afraid of change.

For the record I'm 23 (ie. hardly a boomer) and I still said what I did. Age has nothing to do with it...

"...Actually just fix these things..." It's not broken, so don't fix it."...Without stopping to ask if some old farts are afraid of change." Disregarding the old farts piece, the problem is that you overgeneralize the problem to allow for overgeneralized solutions. Does anyone really feel offended when they crack open their Minecraft server properties file? No. The only persons who will care that the universal "whitelist" and "blacklist" nomenclatures are being used in a Minecraft server menu are people who wake up in the morning and set out to deliberately find racism where there isn't any. I have zero tolerance for that as you can probably tell from my tone, because you water down the real remnants of racism that may be left, and thus will get missed because "everything is racist." Call racism at nothing too many times, and people will stop caring.

Edit: take OP's suggestion as written: "Replace the terms 'whitelist' and 'blacklist' with more inclusive alternatives." Who exactly feels excluded by Mojang's use of these common programming terms?

How about we don't look to a videogame to change its linguistically common terms to make people who deliberately see color feel better? smh...

posted a message on Place chains horizontally

i think the chains should be able to be placed horizontally too, since right now it seems like orientation is just an arbitrary limitation.

For pistons I think it would be cool to have chains (or ropes if ever added) count as one block for the whole length, and be treated as sticky on the ends so you could move a block that's far away from the mover. (ie. a mine elevator with the piston mechanism at the top hoisting it instead of listening to a flying machine right under your feet for the whole ride.)

posted a message on Sticky pistons should be craftable by applying slimeballs to pistons (by hand)

They mean you'd be doubling or more the amount of time it takes to mass craft stickies for big machines. However you already addressed this in your very first post where you stated it would be an alternate way to craft them, not a method meant to replace the current recipe... People just aren't remembering what they've read (or haven't) and they're bringing it back up. I still give full support here.

posted a message on Sticky pistons should be craftable by applying slimeballs to pistons (by hand)

I've suggested elsewhere in my replies that I had the idea for slime blocks long before they were a thing using the same method here: slime would be applied by hand to any face of a movable block as a green redstone texture, and until it's broken (also by hand) any block in contact with that face would be stuck to it using the same mechanics as slime blocks. The advantage of this method would be that you dont have a giant lime green splotch in the middle of piston doors and such, since unless it's exposed you wouldn't see the texture between the blocks. I've rabbit trailed a little but I'd like to see this implemented even now since your idea would fit this perfectly logically.

    Support!
