posted a message on Getting an elytra

Thanks for all of the replies. I decided to give it a go, using netherrack to build bridges since it's easy to grind and nothing to destroy it in the end. Once I run out I place my ender chest down, pop in my gear and take a leap.

My main concern is that I started the seed with the update, then a minor update happened in between. I got the warning about the game possibly being corrupted but kept going anyway. I wanted to see if this might have messed it up and I just need a restart. It's not enticing to start a new map from scratch after you've gotten a village running with full enchantments and emerald farms available.

I'll keep going and let you know if the perseverance paid off.

posted a message on HELP! question about villager!!!!!

It looks like trading is your best option, either that or a raid victory. From the wiki:

Reputation begins at 0, ranges from +10 to -30, and can be increased by Trading with Villagers. The reputation level is decreased if a villager or Iron Golem is harmed. If the reputation level of a certain player reaches -15, the iron golems of that village will become hostile to that player, making it very hard to gain back the lost reputation if village-made iron golems are around.

Note that different players may have different reputations in the same village, and the same player can have different reputations in different villages.

Certain actions by a player can increase or decrease their reputation. A player cannot change another player's reputation.

    Actions
    Outcome

    Completing a Trade with Villagers
    +1 Reputation

    Harming Villagers
    -1 Reputation

    Killing Villagers
    -2 Reputation

    Harming Baby Villagers
    -3 Reputation

Killing Iron Golems (except player-made golems)
    -5 Reputation

    Killing Baby Villagers
    -5 Reputation

posted a message on What types of villager professions for maximizing emerald output in 1.14?

Anyone experimented with the different villager types for maximizing emerald output?

I've realized that if you diversify your farms a bit you can really rake in the emeralds, particularly if you have the status effect 'hero of the village'.

Librarians and a sugar cane farm have always been a good bet, and farming carrots with a fortune pick makes trading with farmers profitable, but I've noticed that now you can trade 32 stone blocks for an emerald with the mason, as well as the clay trade they initially offer. On top of that the fletcher has a possible trade where you can get an emerald for trading him 32 sticks!

Would it be better to have multiple types of farms in your loaded chunk or just one huge one of only one or two types?

The mason and fletcher trades seem almost too good to be true. Also the blacksmith types can now be relied on for access to cheap diamond gear that you can place better enchants on using the anvil.

I'd love to see someone set up the most efficient method possible given the new 1.14 mechanics.

posted a message on Survival Mode: What do you guys do in yours?

All my base building revolves around building up existing villages. I vastly increase the population and get as many awesome book trades as I can while naming these "perfected" villagers. I end up spending an inordinate amount of time farming sugar cane and carrots, to feed paper to my librarians and to keep the population growing steady, respectively. I feel truly rich if I have a massive enchanted book collection with all the important ones easily available if I were to die a few times and lose multiple sets of decked out diamond gear. Fortune III, Looting III, and Feather Falling IV seem to be the most important for me, as you need the fortune for mining (not that rare of an enchant at the table, honestly) looting to get any decent stockpile of meat, leather and other animal materials, and feather falling for when you are digging and fall long distances and/or to not take damage every time you make a significant fall.

Nowadays you can have Protection/Fire protection/Projectile protection all on the same piece so this can make coming up with multiple sets of armor a lot more time consuming book/experience-wise when working everything out on an anvil.

I seek to connect existing villages with rail lines and/or nether portals, kill the ender dragon so I can have access to ender pearls and elytra. Use elytra to find materials (like lily pads) and clay deposits which I used to turn into bricks for massive xp but now give to masons in their first tier trades for experience AND emeralds.

Then it's really just a race to find and connect as many towns as possible. They all need walls and mayors, of course. I designate the mayor as the first librarian that offers mending. I pretend that others assume that they come from royal blood and superstitiously want to be led by such villagers.

Also, the more resources (be it vines, stone, clay, etc.) I have stockpiled the richer and more prepared I feel, even if it exists just to look at and never get used.

I hardly have any time for actual MINING anymore...
