As a server owner, I say join a server you are interested and stick with them. Nobody wants to promote somebody they do not know.

Again, third-party chats could easily give an advantage to tribes willing to break the rules. Also, the amount of work to collect the redstone and place a well-hidden wire would be enormous, making runners more effective for most cases.

A much better form of long distance communication would be railroads sending chest carts with books in them. As long as the rail was within render distance of well-used trade routes, the carts would make it to their destination in a reasonable time. With a Morse code-type wire, the chunks would have to all be loaded for message corruption to be avoided.

Using a world anchor plugin would place demands on the server that I don't think would be justified, considering the obsolescence of a redstone telegraph wire against the strain of having world anchors placed at will. I think that, if given the ability to place anchors at will, tribes would just use them to keep their crops' chunks loaded while doing another task farther away.

Personally I think herochat would be the best. Yes it uses 1 or 2 commands, But it can be changed at a whim and is far less taxing on the server.

We should also think about what we can do about combat. spamming the mouse to kill somebody is kind of boring. This could work if you guys would like? http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/bettercombat/

Why not make it so people have to cook meat to eat it? http://dev.bukkit.or...er-mods/cookme/. I can also require people to eat more often so they run through food faster http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/starve/.

Are wars a possibility? Once you die, you're permabanned from the server? Just like real life. That would also come with an obvious problem. Everyone would just kill each other right at the start. So invincibility is around for 5 hours.

Also, there would be no real governments, just 50 or so groups gangs of 2 or 3 people, because everyone wants to be their own leader.

Another problem, this isn't what MInecraft is about. It's about creativity and stuff, not governments. I'm sure there're some games out there that are all about government and crap, but definitely not Minecraft.

Thank you for your input but that is exactly what we are trying to do. Minecraft is a sandbox game with unlimited possibilities. Who is to say this isn't possible? I myself would just enjoy to play this, Even if I can have all the power possible by running it and hosting it, I still don't NEED the power. And wars would possibly have to be a ban for a short time and loss of items/ health or something else that matters to the player, So they respect their life and try all they can to stay alive.

Um, I say look for something not done before. I can literally come up with a list of about 50 servers who do the exact same thing. Maybe make a good horror survival server or a intensely challenging server?

Xray mods and xray Texture packs ruin everything

    all i have to say....

Agreed, But it is up to the players how to handle these situations. To keep it vanilla would mean no plugin to stop cheaters besides admin watching people.

By the time the simulation is finally going, (next summer seems to be the current thinking) we'll easily be in 1.6+, right?

No idea honestly. But it will give us some good time to save up and find enough players. I can pay for a good portion but not all of it. This man gots some bills.

Hmm. Honestly, it would be best to mash-up the updates to fit our own needs.

Well I think 1.4 would be a great thing for this. It would give us time to work out all the kinks and bugs, then I can find someone to help me update the plugins for 1.4 and make it all amazing.

I like the extended use of seeds, it is a unique solution. Longer growth times would only increase their value as well. It also ties up the breeding and thus supply of livestock. A severe kick in the conkers for the lone wolf. There was a mod that allowed editing of crafting recipes but I think there was not much luck found altering the growth times and I'm doubtful that there is one that bounds it to the moon cycles. I will have to look into that. Splendid idea regardless Tom.

We will need a consistent version to stick with for the server, although it might be ideal to stick with the current version, future versions may be more suitable, but also require more modifications or conflict with our current ideas.

why not wait for 1.4? it will have a lot of decoration updates and transportation too.

I like this idea, maybe add a hand cart and a water wheel for mills would be cool too. just some basic gear and pulley functions would make the game far more interesting for me.
