posted a message on I think I will be skipping 1.9 and staying with 1.8.8 unless I can disable the new battle mechanics in some way.

This is what you get when Mojang decides to listen to it's community. A lot of the additions of 1.9 have been shaped by community requests, to make sure most players would be happy.
What they forgot is that Minecraft has one of the most split up communities I know, so now pretty much veery Player has something to complain about.

I personally don't mind the new mechanice, I think they will be interesting.

Interesting or not, it should be entirely optional, not forced. Let the server owner, or the player in single player enforce the rules. Don't force them on us. This is very user hostile and very unwelcome. I feel that if these new additions were optional instead of forced, it would be a far better experience for the player.

posted a message on which version do YOU pick[deleted]

1.7.10 is by far the last version of Minecraft that I would ever consider playing as a true version of Minecraft. After that it seems it's just mod packs being added as "vanilla" without technically adding anything I would consider Minecraft. I began in 1.4, got really into it in 1.6.4, and loved 1.7. After that things just got too crazy for me, and more != better imho.

posted a message on What type of player are you?

I am the abuser. I make builds that specifically abuse game mechanics to take advantage of them. Like mob spawners which drop mobs down and kill them, with item sorters at the bottom so I don't have to work for them. I make experience farms which drop mobs that hurt them so all I have to do is stand and punch once gaining the experience. I make cobblestone generator/auto miner machines which generate cobblestone, mine it, collect it into hoppers, and store it into a silo of cobblestone. Zombie pigman farms above the nether for all... that... gold... @_@ I build Iron Golem farms which kill those harmless giants that protect villagers, and put villagers in tiny prisons, forcing them to mate, and live in the perpetual prison, watching their precious protectors die in lava just so I can have the iron that used to be their body... and laugh maniacally while doing it... ok well maybe not that far sorry got carried away with the drama :-P I build trade farms, forcing villagers to mate, send their grown kids off so I can trade with them, and if I don't like what they offer, I send them to a firery grave muahahahahaha ok I'll stop now...

posted a message on I am so sick of negativity.
Are you talking to me about this or are you talking about people in general? I really dislike how "you" can be used as "people in general" and as when you are talking about one person. It may be easily seen by a native speaker but as I am not (swedish actually) so is the difference not easily seen.

Alright I will change that tone. I can see how it can be construed as intrusive, but people in general is too blanket of a statement, so I will be more specific from now on. It is an alliteration, pointing, the user to see things from that perspective. If it isn't directed at you specifically, then move along in your mind track, etc.

Sidenote, you are going to go far in life, if you keep this positive attitude, and propensity for life. I am 31, and have always been like this. I can tell you, that if you apply yourself, and go through college, you will find that your career choice to be very rewarding over those who simply want to be heard. You get what takes some people years to learn, those are the people who are filling the gas tank of that BMW you worked so very hard to obtain. Just promise me that you will treat the Janitor, the gas tank filler, etc with this same type of positivism that you give to your superiors. You can always tell the worth of a man (or woman) by how (s)he treats their inferiors.

posted a message on Which is better past minecraft or future minecraft

You are not limited to playing the latest versions. You can pick the version in the launcher, and there are servers dedicated to what you want as well. I like 1.8 quite a bit, resources packs and graphics mods are way easier to implement. That being said, 1.7.10 feels like old Minecraft to me, and 1.8 is where the schism begins. I think and feel that 1.7.10 was the last version of version 1.0 and 1.8 should have been Minecraft 2.0. 1.8 was such a massive update to the graphics engine, the game doesn't even feel the same. I began in 1.4 I believe. From 1.4-1.7.10 the game felt the same overall. 1.8 and the new 1.9 snapshots feel like a completely different but same game, as in a new version. I get that people for some reason love 1.6.4, and 1.7.2 added a lot of changes, but the additions didn't change too much to really affect the game in such a massive way as 1.8 does. 1.8 changed everything, and I know that it was said 1.7.2 "changed" everything, but it didn't. Let me explain.

From the beginning of 1.2, snapshots of 1.7.2 were being developed, everything lead up to that release, and even Notch said that every version before 1.7.2 was just leading up to that release, and he felt that was the completed version of the game. And it shows. Now 1.8 released and everything was simply watered down mod packs, and even the Aether was planned, or "sky world" or "dream world" as you entered there when you slept in a bed at random, and to get out all you did was fall off an island. Such a thing felt far to gimmicky and was scrapped. The new VBO and graphics engine changes things far too much for it to don the version 1 manacle.

I believe a lot of the angst was stemmed from them saying "the update that changes the world" being far too dramatic and people expected something the lines of 1.8 and therefore confuse it as being "new Minecraft". Even chickens and eggs came from a mod idea, where a user said publically that he would eat his USB thumb drive if notch added eggs, well a beta got released and he went public on YouTube eating his thumb drive, and later in 1.6.4 eggs being able to be thrown and spawn chickens became a thing. Nothing I think past 1.2 was Mojang or Noth's original ideas, everything is in some form a public request that became popular or a popular mod that everyone added, and was added to vanilla to make things easier.

This isn't a bad thing, and I think it is what we owe the success of Minecraft to, a game that caters to the players wants without going over the top.

I am looking forward to 1.9. I hope they fix the broken controls in time for release.

posted a message on I am so sick of negativity.

If you don't like Minecraft don't play the game. If you don't enjoy seeing the videos on YouTube, it has this option to flag the video as "this does not interest me" and you can go in and put in your disinterest box, "Minecraft" and you will never see another Minecraft video again. It really is that simple. Why come here and complain? Why join public servers and complain until you get kicked? Why spread your hatred and bile? What is the point? Go away with your negativity.

Just as much as you hate the game, we hate your negative energy bringing everyone else down. Your opinion doesn't matter if you dislike the game. We don't want to hear it, which means we don't want you hanging out with us. I dare you to go into a bar and complain about alcohol. You'll get kicked out or worse. Go to a church and complain about God, you will probably get kicked out. Same applies here. If you dislike it, here is a thought, leave, go find something else to do. Clean your house, get a job, get a girlfriend/boyfriend, play another video game (there are a ton of FREE decent games out there), rob a bank and go to prison, ie anything BUT complaining about Minecraft.

NEWSFLASH: We love the game!!! That's it, pure and simple. For us it is fun. If you can't see how we love it, well the game just isn't for you...

P.S. I am 31 years of age and it still amazes me that adults, grown ups, not just children, go places and complain about the place they are in instead of going elsewhere... It makes no sense to me...

posted a message on Minecraft 1.9 dual wield issue

Me and a friend came to the same conclusion, left click should do left hand commands and right click should do right hand options. The way the latest snapshot handles it, it is switched. While I understand that as far back as Minecraft goes the control scheme was the same, but the dual wield changes things in such a massive way, I think you should at least include an option in the options to turn on this new control scheme.

My friend Scott and I have been playing Minecraft forever. Everyone I know who has tried the new snapshot says the same thing. It is confusing that the controls are switched around the way they are. I mean leave in the current control scheme as "default mode" or "classic mouse controls" but allow me the ability to change it over so that when I have something in my left hand, left click does that command, such as blocking with a shield, placing torches etc, and right click mines with the pickaxe, places blocks that are in that hand etc...

I would like your input on this issue. I understand that some of you like things the way they are which, sure leave the swapped mouse buttons as default for classic control scheme, and allow those of us who want a more sane control scheme to be put in place. I think you could even make middle click like the scroll wheel do something as I don't even think they sell mouses without a scroll wheel that clicks anymore.

tl;dr include an option that left click should do left handed or shield slot things, and right click should do normal commands for everything else now.

posted a message on Building a MMORPG in Minecraft with Plugins and Mods ?

Minecraft is technically a very hard game to run in what you want it to do. There are better engines more well equipped to handle the class IDs and limited strings you want to impliment. Java and the fuzzy logic Minecraft uses really limits what you are trying to accomplish. Most of your ideas are class:define"race"|"human" etc... which would be better handled by a different game engine.

There are just too many variables and tables in place that would make limiting Minecraft to this system too big of a job. I am not trying to discourage your idea, and it is a noble one at that. I think you have a fantastic idea. I think it would in and of itself be a great game.

I think you need to start by learning a simple programming language, the core graphics engine can be one of many like unreal engine that does 99% of the heavy lifting for you, then you can use an outlier like ruby, java, or python to handle all of the communication stuff, then use mysql to define everything you want to do.

While you can make a mod to make Minecraft talk to mysql, there are other projects dedicated to your very idea. Atavism comes to mind, and it uses Unity 3D engine, and a very simple SQL database. Torque is another one, but the 3D engine hasn't been updated in ages, great if your computer is ancient. Realmcrafter is a fantastic tool, but again where it falls short is it's muddy looking 3D engine. Hero Engine/Hero Cloud is cute and very simplistic. If you want a 2D MMORPG there is XtremeWorlds.

If you want a more 1 player style there is RPG Maker VX Ace, and RPG Creator. These are both 2d engines, both powerful in their own ways. RPG Maker uses Ruby but Ruby is extremely limited as far as multiplayer goes. RPG Creator uses HTML5, again quite limiting as far as multiplayer goes, but allows for more operating systems for your end games like Android, iOS, Linux, etc...

As far as Minecraft goes, it is a nice sandbox, and I think even Notch said that he tried what you are attempting to do, and found it to be far to limiting. He released the game as a sandbox and updates happened to surround the community etc. I think once storymode gets implimented in the 1.9 lifetime your vision might come to pass. I think a lot of people want story mode, as you can limit the size of your world to like 4000x4000 and make a story inside a smaller world, which would be fantastic. I think the create-your-own story mode in Minecraft will be a very cute idea, but implementing all of this would require static text to be displayed on screen. Minecraft's text is hard to read, and I think for the likes of an RPG you would want an engine more driven to your needs.

posted a message on I am so thankful Microsoft isn't blocking the Linux version... yet... will they ever block Linux?

I tried the Windows 10 update, but it's missing so much of the core game. In my tests it runs better, smoother, and works overall better on Linux than on Windows. I sincerely dualboot Linux now just for Minecraft. I was able to test out the latest 1.9 snapshot on Linux and it's great. So here are my noob questions:

    Will they ever block Linux?

Do they have the authority to do so now?

Will Microsoft eventually roll all the features into the "Windows 10 Edition"?

About how long until we see a 1.8 or 1.9 equivalent for the "Windows 10 Edition"?

Basically I want to know is, how much power does Microsoft have over the development of the core vanilla game?

I have been playing Minecraft since the early days and love it for what it is, and I know I can probably google all of these things but it's easier to make a post, go to work, have answers when I come home. I just have a lot of concerns I want to hear from reputable sources on. Not just some blog post spreading some lie, or hearsay, but real facts. The Internet is full of blogs full of lies and sorting through them all is a hassle.
