I am currently developing a mod that has gotten rather popular. I have recently done some searching around online to see what kind of mod reviews people have made of my mod. Not surprisingly, I stumbled across some re-post websites. I wasn't too worried about the re-posts themselves; I was more interested in the comments because I wanted as much feedback for my mod as I could get. It wasn't really helpful when they were all comments saying things like "It's a shame that [feature that has already been added in a newer version] isn't in this mod."

In Eclipse, I can run both the Minecraft client and server. My simple question is though: How do I connect to the server once it is running? Surprisingly, I couldn't find anything on this after a fair amount of searching on the internet.

So, are you making a 1.7.10 version?

Most likely not. If anything does change, I'll let you know.

    Quote from jcm2606»

Depends on the mod and how the author has done it. To my knowledge the general premise is while the mod's loading, you check a file stored on a server, whether it be an FTP server, a Dropbox folder or whatever, and check that against a value stored in the mod. So say for instance in the copy of the mod you have installed there's a variable that holds the version, say it's 1.3.11. The mod then checks a file stored on a server for a similar value, and finds it's 1.3.11, and thus deduces that it's up-to-date. However, if it finds it's 1.4.0 it deduces that the mod is out-of-date.

Thanks. I figured it was something like this, but I wasn't sure what kind of server they would check for up-to-date versions.

Some of the bigger mods I've noticed will tell the client in-game whenever there is a new update for the mod. Does anyone know how this works or how I could possibly add this functionality to my own mod?

i'm on 1.7.10 and when i select blue wool it changes to white wool and same with other blocks like blue glass, changes to white

With the addition of the /clone command in 1.8, a lot of the Minecraft code was redone to support it. I use the same functionality as the command for the world tools. In 1.7, this functionality isn't there, so the tools don't work very well.

I hope this mod is not canceled, Because it could really use some things...

    1. In-game use of the § Symbol. Could be useful for color-coding. Currently requires extensive use of NbtExplorer
    2. An image-to-map converter. Currently requires Extensive use of Spritecraft
    3. An image-to-pixelart converter. Currently requires Spritecraft.

I haven't worked on this mod in a while, but that's not to say it's dead.

Next up would be an undo/redo tool. Those image-to-xxx tools are unlike anything I have tried before, but I guess I could look in to it.

It would appear I only have Java 7... Guess it's time for an update! I will try it and see how it works.

    EDIT: It works! Thank you!

I wanted to play some Tekkit, but I didn't want to play 1.6.X, so I grabbed all of the Tekkit mods that had been updated to 1.7.X and installed them. I don't get any errors when I start up Minecraft, but as soon as I create a new world, the game just gets stuck like this...

...and the program stops responding. When I try to close the window, a box appears and I click "Close the program" and it crashes back to the launcher, where I notice an error.

I got the idea of using a minimap to check mob spawn rates on my mod, but I'm not sure how to add in a mod I don't have the source code for. Can anyone help me out?
