I'm ok with the hunger, with persistant animals coming as well it gives the game a real RPG feel where you need to maintain a farm of some sort to keep yourself supplied for life in MC. So I'm ok with that, food right now is pretty pointless anyway, unless you get hurt a lot.
The XP scares me and to some extent I agree that it just seems like a bad idea. When I first saw the xp I was thinking that the idea to include it was based solely on the fact that RPG games are supposed to have XP, which itself is flawed logic. No game HAS to have xp and including it seems to suggest that the game is falling more inline with what is expected of an RPG rather than setting the bar for a new kind of RPG. Zelda doesn't have xp, but it does have progression. However since we don't know what the xp is going to be used for I'm keeping an open mind. If there is some bs that you have to be level 3 before you can use iron, I'm modding the xp right out of the game.
No I agree with Ovus, I really think that hunger is a terrible idea. And you made a great point, hunger, and persistant animals DO make it RPGish, and that sucks. Minecraft is a sandbox game, not an RPG. While there have been more than a few updates I really didnt like, wolves, beds, maps, they were very easy to ignore, to just not use if i did not wish, but this update does not seem like one i can easily ignore. I want to survive and build, not micromanage my health or else I die. And people always say, but there is creative mode for that, yea but creative mode has no mobs and infinite blocks. I want to have to fight mobs, i like collecting my materials for big builds, right now i am working on a large stiadium, and just finished the floor, with over 3800 obsidian. I cant have that kind of satisfaction in creative mode. If many of these things, like hunger, are not toggelable, than im not going to update. I think notch needs to focus more on making a game engine, not a game, and let the modders add all the content people want to, if you want hunger, add it in, if you want mo creatures, than add that too, but i dont want them added to vanilla minecraft
HOW DO YOU ADD PHOTOS WITHOUT THE UTR!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????
What is a UTR? unless you mean a URL, in which case you need it, you cant upload pictures directly from your computer, you need to upload them to a site like imageshack or tinypic or something
First of all, great post, thank you so much for the details put here. I’ve found myself a three chunk of slime spawning too on my MSP server, and spent pretty much the whole day yesterday digging it up, with an extra fourth block on the side.
Currently this is following all the rules that I have found – in a slime spawning zone (according to the mod), below lvl 16 (currently 6 block high room), completely lit up with glowstone, and I have even blocked up nearby caves to increase spawn chances within my farm.
During the whole time mining the farm up, not a single slime spawned. Now I see on the forum that other members have had up to 100 slimeballs just during the farming, so this is worrying me. And now I am waiting (longuest thus far has been around 15 minutes) at about 30 blocks away, and no spawns. I am currently on Normal difficulty and have been the whole time. (I tried switching to passive and then back to normal in case that played around with spawn rate but being on an MSP server I doubt this has any effect ?).
So far I have not done multiple floors – I would be happy with just one floor as long as they start spawning, and I appreciate being patient, however reading about some of you who have had so many slimes appear just during the construction of the farm, I am a little worried.
I will post pictures tonight, maybe I am missing something, but so far I do not seem to have a lot of luck. Will need to make a proper long test of waiting further away and leaving it on for an hour or something to make sure.
Any hints and tips would be great :smile.gif:
Make multiple 2 high floors like his blueprints, I made a 16x32x6 room at bedrock in elligible chunks and never got a single spawn, but I added a bunch of 2 high rooms and now i have 4 stacks, in addition to the 2 stacks of sticky pistons I have used in my piston elevators
The empty ones change depending, if mining, add 12 stone picks, spelunking, add more food and an extra pick or two, otherwise, whatever building materials I need or tools to collect whatever I'm collecting
Ok so Kastrel has a great guide for slime farms here. Now slimes, unless they see you, dont change their direction of movement, so if you take Kastrel's design and shift it up one block and make the corners, probably in a 3x3, into waterfalls from the top floor to the botom, and make a one floor 3x3 hole so the slimes dont escape you could drown them, then you could somehow open up the wall with pistons to allow the dropps through.
then have the dropps come out the left and right side of the bottom area
What do you mean by multiply? Do you want a mod that makes trees grow more leaves, or do you mean you want to use shears to pick up leaf blocks and place them on trees around your house to have bigger canopies?
I built an underwater biodome with trees and grass and whatnot. then I put my portal in the middle and had netherrack and lava around it to make it look like the nether was creeping out of the portal.
