No. Optifine will only be loaded if the optifine json entry is added. So the default json created by the forge installer will not load it, but your copy with the added lines will.Quote from painter73

Sorry if this has been asked but, Is this not compatible with any world/biome generating mods? I use biomes o'plenty and better world generation 4, and nothing is spawning for me anywhere. And I have looked everywhere. I have lots of other mods that add creatures/people (mo'creatures,minecraft comes alive,goblins,farlanders,camping,weeping angels,legendary beasts) and all of them seem to spawn just fine. But I can't seem to come across any grimoire mobs. Is there a reason or fix or just not compatible? Thanks in advance for any and all feedback !!!

Everything else seems to break fine (amber,totems,etc.) I even tried to cut them out with single player commands and this didn't even work, they just blink and remain in my world. Did you type in the JVM arguments listed in the install instructions on the 1st page?

Updating your forge version to the latest build should solve these issues. Get forge here: http://files.minecraftforge.net/
NOTE: install forge on a fresh/clean jar, putting over an existing version will not work
