Oh hey...I just thought of something else.
I would love to be able to make chests not out of wood. I realize you have one but it takes 8 iron. That's expensive. How about making a stone one? I know you can't use cobble due to furnace but what about cobble half steps or something? Be a stone coffer or something.

If so, then DAMN they are slow.
That's easy to say when you don't see how many we have. :wink.gif:
Easy to say and quite true if you believe Webster's definition of "slow"

Flint tools have been around since, well the stone age. Why not allow the creation of a flint tool to use as an early rock digger? You could even use just flint to make it.
What do you think?
May 3, 2011I don't know...a dirt tool that you will use one time seems like a waste of time and sprites. Honestly I'd just use wood to dig out some stone and then toss it.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
But that's just me.

Light from plants? What are you, a bloody elf? :biggrin.gif:

Im thinking on that but most likely some possibilities are a new type of block that spawns underground that can be used for light, a plant that can be combined with a cobblestone rod and coal to make a fire, ores would probably be made to glow a little, the original post said something about glowing mushrooms that could be implemented(that would be easy) things like that im still thinking about them. Very good question though do you have any suggestions?
Suggestions for light? Can just go easy and make a torch use a stone rod instead of wood. It's not unrealistic. I do like the idea of some kind of glowing ore tho. That sounds very dwarfy. It would have to be fairly common (coal level perhaps) to be useful as a light source however.
Also...stone coffers. Just like wooden chests but have to use smooth stone (this to avoid the furnace conflict). Speaking of furnaces since we are talking about dwarves they should have some sort of furnace that has increased status. Smelts faster, etc. An iron furnace or something.
I know this has been mentioned but I really like the idea of underground crops. That's extremely dwarfy..and booze of course.

I already have IndustrialCraft, I thought that this was SteamCraft?!
My spirits were buoyed when I first read this mod name but now they have crashed miserably low. Most of your additions are related to lighting, aesthetics, or changing existing blocks. You seem to have little knowledge of the steam punk genre or of steam engines/technology in general.
So many steam devices and cool things are possible but you've managed to avoid them all, well done.
Industrial Craft? What's that? Oh you mean that mod that the creator updated to 1.5 and it broke so badly he had to regress it back to 1.4? And then it said it was the test version of MCP that caused it..even though there were tons of other mods working fine on 1.5. And now it still sits on 1.4 even though the official version of MCP is out.
I liking Steamcraft so far...good job OP.

I'm afraid the recipe for the socket item was incorrect on the wiki. It was an error that carried over from the old Recipes.txt that used to be included in the node pack. It is fixed now. The socket item actually requires stone to craft, not iron ingots. I plan on changing this for the next release to iron ingots, but for now, it's still stone.
Mr NodeReaver said on the post prior to yours that the recipe on the wiki was incorrect. Maybe try the corrected recipe and see if that helps?
Oh duh...sorry about that. I'm usually not this much of a newb :smile.gif:
