So...do you think the F3 will go away once we get a Non Beta 1.0 Release? The reason is that its more of a debug tool than anything else...which is why it might end up being disabled.

Unfortunately many of us use it to find mobs deep underground which is also helpful for finding isolated caves that aren't connected to the surface.

Do you think he will replace it with something else? I can see maybe building some sort of GPS device for tracking your coordinates...and maybe a Sonar device that you can put on. It could give you a some sort of augmented reality display to show where mobs are via Dots or something similar.

Alternatively, maybe Notch could make it so that all caves eventually lead to the surface SOMEWHERE, so that you don't end up with "pocket caves" underground...and the mossy cobblestone would lead you to the dungeons behind walls. Then there isnt as much of a need for F3 if we always have continuous caves...

    More photos...

Just inside the cave looking out...

Just inside looking at the edge of where you go down...

    Looking down...

First Antechamber...about five branches from this room!

    Other side of Antechamber

This waterfall leads through another pathway...

Sounds great! I also like that it is an absolute spawn seed.

I found lots of caves but not the one in the picture. What is the z coordinate?

Z: -49.9 (that is the ENTRANCE to the cave...not from where the picture was taken...)

Here's a photo showing the location from where I took the pic along with the coords.

Inside that little hole is one of the largest continuous cave systems I've ever explored. You'll have to take a boat or swim to get there. There are places where you feel like you're going down forever, only to eventually go back up forever...only to find another place that branches off into four to five more pathways...be sure to continually look up for even more paths to climb up to. Fortunately very little of it is under water, so you can dig up and create new exits fairly easily if you get lost (and you will get lost unless you use a breadcrumb system).

I found diamonds and didn't even go through more than half an iron pick-axe. You'll do more bridge building than digging. There is at least one dungeon down there, but I didn't break through the wall to see what was behind it since I was playing peaceful. That'll be your fun when you explore.

    Enjoy!

I said the only clue is the texture. The name of the texture is Sliverfish

    Nope. They are silverfishes.

Was that confirmed? You said it wasn't. Either way, they do not eat wood. They can live in shingles though because of the chemicals/paint they have on them. So maybe they just destroy your roof? Does that mean there will be shingles coming up in a future version? :smile.gif:

Maybe they eat your paper? :smile.gif:

Who is mixing? The community. Notch or Jeb haven't said ANYTHING about silverfishes. The only clue of them is the texture.

Well that explains it. I have a feeling they are termites then.

    Silver fish=fish
    Silverfish=Insects

But since the texture doesn't remind fish at all, it's probably going to be an insect

SILVER FISH DO NOT EAT WOOD. Im not sure who got this idea in their head, but look it up...

    ..from wikipedia..

Silverfish consume matter that contains polysaccharides, such as starches and dextrin in adhesives. These include glue, book bindings, plaster, some paints, paper, photos, sugar, coffee, hair, carpet, clothing and dandruff. Silverfish can also cause damage to tapestries. Other substances that may be eaten include cotton, linen, silk, synthetic fibres and dead insects or even its own exuvia (moulted exoskeleton). During famine, a silverfish may even attack leatherware and synthetic fabrics. Silverfish can live for a year or more without eating.

I think he's mixing up Silver Fish with Termites...

For the last time, Melons are quite tasty.

    Really?

To some this disconnection is unappealing as we want to have that connection to what we feel most familiar with as we apply that to our adventures.

Part of the charm in Minecraft relies on that familiarity with our World. I would hate to see that familiarity vanish.

Yeah, and plumbers jumping on top of mushrooms, travelling via pipes and rescuing princesses will NEVER WORK! :smile.gif:

If this so called "silverfish" turns out to just be another type of fish in the ocean, and yes, there is a fish called a silverfish....I will laugh my ass off because all you people are talking about is the little insects that destroy wood.

Im not sure where the rumor started that Silverfish insects eat wood. Silverfish feed on anything made out of sugar molecules, like starch and cellulose.

Wood is about 75 percent cellulose, but silverfish do not feed on wood because it is simply to strong for them to cut into with their tiny mandables/jaws.

    From Wikipedia:
Silverfish consume matter that contains polysaccharides, such as starches and dextrin in adhesives.[4] These include glue, book bindings, plaster, some paints, paper, photos, sugar, coffee, hair, carpet, clothing and dandruff. Silverfish can also cause damage to tapestries. Other substances that may be eaten include cotton, linen, silk, synthetic fibres and dead insects or even its own exuvia (moulted exoskeleton). During famine, a silverfish may even attack leatherware and synthetic fabrics. Silverfish can live for a year or more without eating.[2][4]

    So maybe Notch meant termites?

    @Dytalus

I personally think, that system wouldn't really make that much sense... If things would be, as you imagine there, it wouldn't really make the game harder, you'd simply need to dig a hole into stone... This whole wood-eating stuff would only restrict you in your coice of materials... Therefore, it'd not allow you to be as creative as you were before...
I mean... Even if you'd want do build a safe house, I don't think, stone takes that much longer to get than wood.

Ant those arguments are however, the reason, that I don't really see a point in making the silverfish able to eat wood.

    Cheers

I'd rather have natural deterioration. Having to upkeep your home makes sense...perhaps if they added additional weather like hail...or perhaps the occasional asteroid strike? Of course natural disasters could be toggled on and off in the preferences menu. :smile.gif:

Freaked out. I ran into my cabin and closed the door, and it was peering at me through the window. Then I made impromptu stairs to the top of my cabin from the inside so I could climb up and get a better look. Then I was surprised to see was actually turning it's head upwards and to look up at me....that was the creepiest moment ever playing Minecraft (now I'm used to them).
