Yep, another game that's not even out yet. Guess you got the super secret advance copy. -

the reasons the PC community is freaking out is because its very common for PC games to be ruined when they go from being just PC games to mulitplayform. and even though "we" know there is a separate team working on it and it's very paranoid, look all the games that where PC games then went to consoles and pretty much became just consoles games and PC ports. fear1, crysis, battlefield 2, cod, Rainbow Six, Need for Speed, Dragon age 2, Fallout 3.
there are many examples about PC games being ruined when they expand to consoles, that is what everyone doesn't like about this.
flame suit on
So give us some examples....everyone keeps talking about 'em, but nobody seems to ever name them.
The last example of a PC game being ported to XBLA that I can think of is Torchlight, and it works just fine on the 360 (I know, I have both versions). -

I couldnt agree more, my problem is because its for kinect, the worst add on to a console ever...
I also see a lot of ignorance about what Kinect is.
It's not just about gesturing. It's also a 3D camera. This means it could allow you to scan in 3D objects to include into your world. We saw a demo at the key note speech of scanning in 3D items (they used a teddy bear).
I think this is what they mean by Kinect enabled. -

Now, we're going to have a billion Xbox fanboys flood the ****ing forum, butchering the English language, degrading everyone's IQ, and telling us that the PC sucks.
I did not want any of this **** to happen, and NEITHER DID ANY OF THE ****ING PEOPLE WHO PAYEDYOU SO MUCH MONEY AND GAVE YOU SO MUCH FAME IN THE FIRST PLACE. You've really done it this time, you ****ing asshole! You've betrayed all of us! Go **** yourself.
Now there's hypocrisy.
(It's P-A-I-D by the way)
Also, I own all three of the current major consoles, and I also build my own gaming rigs..so there goes your stereotype. -

That's true they only care about flashy lights and space gremlins Also I am a "Console f**k" too, and to be honest I'll probably just stick to my mac anyway.
Actually, games like Monster Rancher, Viva Pinata and Animal Crossing all existed on consoles way before Minecraft was ever a thought in Notch's head. All those games are resource gathering, building games. So thats not only what console gamers care about.
Independently developed games like Limbo and Braid sold millions on the 360 as well. -
Jun 8, 2011oxHanoverxo posted a message on Minecraft Coming To Xbox Kinect This WinterPosted in: NewsQuote from StickbabigaOverall, my point is Mojang should not waste its funding on projects for a game that isn't even complete. After Minecraft is done, they can do whatever the **** they want, the forums will be pointless by that time anyway. I'll only be here for mods.
...and how do you know this other team hasnt already been working on the XBOX version? You know what a non-disclosure agreement is? Do you realize this deal was probably put together months ago, but Notch was contractually not allowed to say anything until E3? It's called an Embargo...anyone in the gaming industry can tell you what that is all about. -
Jun 8, 2011oxHanoverxo posted a message on Minecraft Coming To Xbox Kinect This WinterPosted in: NewsIt's Kinect-enabled for a reason. Even that said, navigating a menu with a control stick isn't terribly hard or time consuming. Frankly I fail to see why console gamers shouldn't have access to a Minecraft game solely on the basis of minor inconvenience, as if the entire FPS genre hasn't already worked well enough to still be playable on it.
I agree...The Kinect is a 3D camera. At the keynote they were demonstrating how you will be able to scan in 3D objects and textures. Maybe thats what they mean by KINECT ENABLED.
People are so stuck on gesturing...do some research...think outside the box...stop being so reactionary...
If there is gesturing, Im sure it will be simple pointing at the screen to select stuff in your inventory, but since not everyone has a Kinect, Im sure it going to have to be optional.

Jun 7, 2011oxHanoverxo posted a message on Minecraft Coming To Xbox Kinect This WinterPosted in: NewsQuote from ReinveilI'd be all "pfffft, money is for SELLOUTS and I'm keeping this baby pure and on PC, like the nerd gods intended" and slap the stacks of cash right out of their hands.
And I'm sure every other person here, especially the ones crying the loudest, would do the same.
Translated: Notch, how dare you become successful. You are not to please anyone else but us. Now get back into your dungeon cell and keep making updates just for us and nobody else.
You realize Ken Levine, the guy who created the game Bioshock is rich, right? One of the most original IPs in decades made that guy a lot of money and he's about to do it again with Bioshock Infinite.
You also realize that Sid Meier is also pretty rich, and yet he still churns out Civ games for multiple platforms...and success has not gotten to his head.
We could also talk about Alexey Pajitnov....the creator of Tetris that has the record for being on the most platforms more than any other game. That guy is still pretty humble.
What if Minecraft is the new Tetris? Would you really deny anyone that kind of success simply because you don't think anyone else should play Minecraft except you?
Wait until you experience a little of the real world, kid. -

Does anyone around here know what Beta means? I mean seriously, go look it up. Every time you say these kinds of things about a beta, it makes you look ignorant.
Its like if you bought a car and then the next day you start complaining that it has four wheels and a steering wheel.
0
You act as if 1.8 is the last update they ever plan on doing...
And see that little word BETA in the opening screen? Do you really understand what that means?

Back in 1.7 you would often have to randomly punch holes in walls or use F3 to see where the mobs were to figure out you would dig to continue onward.
I think what the new engine does is figure out where those thin parts between caves are for you and then sort of perforates the spaces in between so you can easily see where you will have to dig in order to continue. I've noticed there are a lot more cracks and crevices that can easily lead in up to 6 different directions from a single intersection. A lot of times these spaces will lead down.
I've also traveled across the same ravine in several different spots and heights as the caves zig-zag through them.
1.8 is awesome if you are a cave explorer....I haven't had this much fun since I first started playing Minecraft.

I also love the blue spiders. The way they drop down on you from above actually makes the game scary again (only because I've gotten so used to the existing mobs).

Yeah, I agree. I am detecting a sort of mass hysteria here...

Blocks they placed before the 1.8 release..
0
Same here...I built a small wall of cobblestone near where I saw Endermen spawning, and they were there a few nights later dancing around it...nothing was taken from my wall..
Perhaps "existing buildings" prior to 1.8 are seen as non-human-placed blocks? That would make sense because the game probably wasn't keeping track of what you placed before 1.8.
I'll have to do some more experimenting when I get home.

I'll I can say is welcome to Beta. You knew the game would change while you were playing it. You have no "Rights" when it comes to the design of this game. I certainly hope Notch doesnt sell out his vision to anyone.
I think having a creature that forces you to upkeep your structures while playing SURVIVAL is totally natural. You build in Minecraft, so having something "take apart" makes that a natural enemy and makes complete sense.
If you don't want to deal with them, then you should play on creative or use your brain and figure out how to endermen-proof your structures.
Maybe you should stop playing the Beta until the complete game comes out so you know exactly what to expect when you build your complicated structures.
It's hard to feel sorry for anyone who knew there would be risks while playing a game that they knew was still in development.

A mob a nuisance?! Who would have thunk it?!
Seriously, maybe you need to work on a strategy to deal with the Endermen then come whining on the board that some mob is doing it's job of being a mob? Did you guys come running here the moment a skeleton shot you with an arrow?
I'll give you a hint...water kills Endermen....

I didn't know sleeping reset your spawn point. Thanks. :smile.gif:

With that, I wish there was a way to reset your spawn point within the game. I find it frustrating to the point where I let myself use MCEdit to place my spawn point next to a cave I'm about to explore.. I also do this when I find an area far away from my initial spawn point that I know I'm going to be at for a long period of time.
The way you are tied to your initial spawn point really makes exploration difficult. Who wants to travel an hour away from your start point just to end up back where you started because you were killed? It just makes me want to turn off the game and play something else for awhile.
Also, they gave us these insanely deep ravines, yet no way to build any sort of quick transportation to the bottom of them. I'd love to have a hook-and-rope and the ability to rappel to the bottom.
