posted a message on About successful_hit.ogg

    Hello,

So I've gotten it into my head that I'd like to use the Black Ops 3 hitmarker sound effect (as found here) as my arrow hitting a player sound. I know that I can incorporate it into my custom resource pack and the exact path and filename - what I'm having trouble with is the pitch changing.

Here's my question: can someone tell me the exact pitch difference between the sound heard when you play successful_hit.ogg in an audio player and the sound actually played in the game when hitting a player with an arrow? If I have this, I'll be able to change the pitch of the BO3 hitmarker sound to match that pitch so that it is played properly in-game.

    Thanks!

EDIT - Alright, thanks to Skylinerw, I now know that Minecraft takes the file successful_hit.ogg and changes the pitch from 1.0 to 0.45 when playing the bow hit sound. After doing some testing and research, I've discovered that this is roughly equal to one octave lower (actually just a bit more), or 1200 cents less. Therefore, it appears that if I change my audio file to one octave (or 1200 cents) higher, then Minecraft should play it properly. However, that doesn't seem to be the case, and now I'm very confused.

Is someone able to give me answers here?

This is a truly awesome resource pack! I'm currently working on making 4x4 textures for all of the new 1.8 blocks using the Home Lands style and adding them to my own pack so that I can have a full 4x4 experience, even on 1.8.

Well, I just finished releasing my resource pack with this new enchantment glint. Excited to see what people think!

    Find it here.

Tested both images, and as I assumed, the second image (the blurred and otherwise edited one) looks much better than the original image. I'm actually very surprised at just how nice my new enchantment glint looks, so I'll definitely be using it in my pack.

Thanks for the help once again, Alvoria!

Absolutely. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Out-and-out copying is what's theft. ;)

I suggest trying to make it unique, though. Don't imitate the original too closely.

Can I get an honest opinion on these two?

Remember: If you can't prove that you have the original artist's permission to use a piece of artwork in your pack then you are NOT allowed to use it in a released pack.

Because of the radial symmetry in the corners I'd guess it's a manipulation of one of the hundreds of lightning/electrical discharge images that can be found on the internet. I strongly suggest not using it as it would be nearly impossible to be certain of the original source since such images tend to be stolen and re-stolen as desktop wallpapers a lot. :(

Do you think if perhaps I completely re-created it from a blank image document using my editing software, I could claim it as my own?

That means with zero copying and pasting.

UPDATE - Okay, so after looking around a fair bit, I found what has to be the original enchantment glint file to the apparent edit I posted above. It's here: https://plus.google.com/photos/112704457159919730513/albums/profile/6186605831276332034

    The image is below.

So now I have an original image, but still no idea what the source is. I guess I'll just use the link directly above for the source.

So a little while back, I found a really awesome enchantment glint in some random pack that I was looking through. I'd like to use it in my resource pack that I'll be releasing shortly, but I can't for the life of me find the original pack it's from (so I can credit it). Does anyone recognize this file?

I'll keep looking, but I thought I'd post this just in case anyone knew.

EDIT - Also, if it's a single texture like this, how important is it that I credit the original artist in a resource pack release?

    Hey Nookaxe.

The short answer is NO, but the solution s very simple. Just leave the textures out and MC will fill them in automatically. The default is always behind your pack filling in the gaps.

    Quote from Alvoria»

This exactly. As long as everything that you include is your own original work (meaning no recoloring default textures or altering them so slightly that they're not really 'unique' in any real way) then the pack is allowed to be on the forum.

If you'd like to be certain about whether or not a pack will be permitted on the forum, please send a link to me via PM before posting. As a section moderator for the Resource Packs forum, I can give you definitive advice on the topic. This offer is open to anyone thinking of posting a pack here on MCF, of course. :)

Thanks so much to both of you. I'll keep this information in mind and remove all the default files I currently have in my resource pack.

    thanks!!!

The hunger bar is a bit too small, can you make it bigger?

I don't think I can. With the provided resolution, the way the steak looks right now is the largest and smallest I can make it for it to stay looking exactly like the Minecraft steak icon.

posted a message on Resource pack release question

So I've been working on a 1.8 16x PvP default edit resource pack for the past several months. I'd really like to release it, but I don't know if I am technically permitted to. I have not and am not planning on editing most of the blocks and some of the items, but I have done extensive work on the items and blocks I have retextured.

I suppose my question is this: am I allowed to release a resource pack that has a fair amount of Mojang's original textures in it as my own pack?
