I'm not trying to upset anyone in this thread but I have a few questions.. Especially since I have not yet upgraded to 1.8.
Someone posted talking about the glaring bugs of 1.8; is it really bad or are they exaggerating? I honestly don't know. I've only read good things and lag..
Someone else said that tens of thousands of people are having this problem. I'm not sure how many people play PC Minecraft these days but I imagine tens of thousand out of many millions is a small percentage of users. Not saying that a "Are you sure?" message isn't needed, I would like one myself. But I just see it as a low priority based on those numbers..
Maybe I'm the strange one but I plan on ending my 1.7.10 world with a nice celebration before I start a fresh 1.8 customized world. So either way I'll be playing 1.7.10 for a couple more weeks probably.
Again- I'm not trying to stir the pot, just making conversation
Maybe you can play on 1.8 with Optifine. It's really useful.
Minecraft just being a downloadable EXE and not an installer actually does a quite a bit of good for the community. If you've noticed, a huge portion of the community here are children. Children typically don't have administrative privileges to the computers they play Minecraft on. Since it's just an EXE, they can download it and play right away. If it were instead an MSI installer, they would need to go ask their parents or their school administrator (HAH!) for permission and for them to type in their credentials when it pops up asking for an admin login to complete the installation. "%APPDATA%" is one of the few places on a Windows computer that even the most basic account has access to, but not in a super obvious place like My Documents which could be very easily accidentally deleted.
I'm sure there are tons of Minecraft backup applications for download on the internet. Personally, I've made my own which I have automatically run at 5am every day and save a timestamped backup of my private server on disk. We've had a few power outages and such that have corrupted world saves. I'm proud to say that I've never lost more than 24 hours of data to even the most severe world corruption.
Durp, didnt quote: Can I get the backup application? (Sorry If I am interfering with the conversation)
UGH, I wasted 4 hours making a mod and I get this stupid error I can't fix with "view code" when I try to start the client:

Update log for 1.8.0: -Added guns (pistols, RPGs, bazookas etc) -Hardcore is now $39.99 a game -no more dumb $0 bows -No more mobs, just $3.99 3 zombie mob packs!! -To enter the end you must pay a cheap price of $899.99!!
I mean, the reason why i see this as a good thing is so that in your house, you dont have to have anywhere from 7-8 chests to hold everything you have mined plus, all the tools you have created. Besides, i know you can just make and take what you need, but it would be hella more convenient to be able to stack tools/weapons so you have enough room to hold all of the other things you've mined.
Oh well, I tried
P.S. I do know "how2tipe"
