posted a message on Help with performance in macOS

One thing I love about the Bedrock edition is that I get zero, absolutely NO lag even with the render distance set to max and everything set to max on a 4K display.

However, the Java edition I am getting absolutely horrible performance on both Windows and macOS. I would prefer to play this game on macOS as I am not a big fan of Windows lately. Unfortunately, there is no Bedrock edition for macOS so I am stuck with the Java edition.

I have a maxed out 2019 i9 64GB RAM 2TB SSD iMac and this game struggles, bad. Even the Java edition on Windows struggles. Even with my dedicated gaming PC with a GTX 1080 that can play GTA 5, 2016 Doom, Overwatch and others on max settings at 60-144 FPS struggles with the Java version of Minecraft.

I have tried running in vanilla with no changes, changed RAM settings, used Optifine and other suggested settings. I am not sure how people can successfully play the Java edition.

I do not have any other performance problems on any other game in my Steam library or the Battle.net launcher. The GTX 1080 is a very powerful card that all benchmarks show, but Minecraft is absolutely horrible for some reason.

I found this post that explains the situation almost exactly: https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/support/java-edition-support/2893419-game-essentially-unplayable-2017-macbook-pro

However, I do not have that application as mentioned in the last post. And I get this same issue in Windows using Bootcamp.

Is there anything else I can try before giving up and just sticking with the bedrock edition? I am sorry for those that really like the mods, but I think the Java version is absolutely a performance nightmare. I have never spent this amount of time trying to get a game to work well with a freaking GTX 1080 or my iMac's Radeon Pro Vega 48 8 GB. With the iMac, I sometimes need to play with the shadows a bit in some games. But I have spent hours....HOURS trying to get the Java edition of Minecraft to perform well in both macOS and Windows. As a developer, Java is just not meant for this kind of thing, as the proof of how well the C++ Bedrock edition runs.

I am sorry for the mini rant. I love Minecraft and would love to play it more, but when I only get a small amount of free time due to work, and most of that has been "what settings can I change today to help performance", I am kind of just done with the Java edition. I wish the Bedrock edition was available in macOS :(
