If you want BIG, get the nuke mod. It makes TNT like, 100 times? stronger.

Then replace each of those TNTs with nukes.

Don't use smooth stone as a floor, because that basically qualifies it as a cave floor.

Mobs can spawn on almost all opaque blocks, not just smooth stone. They even spawn on wooden planks.

If you wish for an RPG find another game or a mod, if you wish for the ultimate sandbox play minecraft

    Couldn't have said it better.

It is beyond me why some people would want Minecraft to be a game that fits the need of every gamer. Doing an RPG overhaul will take many years of work and ALOT of resources. That same amount of time and resources could be used to improve the sandbox aspect of the game which is what Minecraft is renowned for. Development resources could be focused towards bringing us new mechanisms to play with, or more block varieties to build with. It would be a more efficient use of resources and would suit the sandbox genre gameplay better. Take the piston for example. It's something that is relatively simple that wasn't time consuming to develop. Yet it has infinite potential as a mechanism in builds.

It is very likely that once Minecraft goes the RPG route, it will begin being compared to other games and compete with them. *Cough* WoW *Cough*. And since WoW does an outstanding job of making itself more attractive than other MMORPGs and standing out of the pack. I'm afraid Minecrafters will move away from Minecraft and onto 'better things'. Minecraft would eventually wither away.

Personally, I'd rather have a game that does a few core things splendidly, rather than a game that tries to do alot of things but ends up doing a mediocre job of it. Mojang doesn't have the resources to compete with the bigwigs of the industry (Blizzard). Mojang even had immense trouble fixing piston bugs! If WoW encountered a critical bug that allowed you duplicate almost anything, Blizzard would most likely hotfix it within a day. It would be an effort in vain if Mojang chose to focus Minecraft as an RPG.

Minecraft is the game I choose to play when I feel like building something magnificient or exercising my artistry and creativity. Sometimes I do get bored of building. But hey, I'm not restricted to only playing Minecraft. If I feel like RPGing or questing/raiding, there's about a million other games I could play in the mean time. The best part is those other games implement the RPG systems many times better than Minecraft could ever achieve. Then when I feel like building again, I go back to Minecraft.

Some people clearly need to be thinking outside of the cube, no pun intended.

I think we should throw out whole graphics, because it is from *technical* point of view useless and consumes much of computer resources. Having different looking blocks is so useless... ROFL.

How can you have a sandbox game with no graphics? That's like saying a painting does not need any paint.

Having different looking blocks is not useless to a sandbox game. If all blocks looked the same, the things you make would look monotonous. It would take away alot of the art and creativity a sandbox game offers.

The workload of adding an RPG system and suitable AI will be tremendous. I'm thinking if Mojang does takes the leap of faith, they'll probably drop out halfway through or do a half-baked job with mediocre content and lots and lots of bugs. They simply don't have the resources and the willpower to make a competitive fully fledged RPG.

Face palm yourself... you obviously know nothing more than to post nonsense on an Internet forum on a daily basis let alone run a business with a huge investment stake. It wasn't simply finding a space to rent, stop being a self accomplished moron for once here.

The "spare time" of four people is not the equivalent of running a business with a huge potential future, I wholeheartedly believe you're a bit senile. I'm not even going to touch the actual programming comparison as others here obviously explained what is basic comprehension of common sense in the most practical way for you to understand.

From now on, I'll never give you the privilege of my direct reply. Either you're an extremely methodical ninja troll or you're just weird in you're own little way.

Dude... your argument is wrong. Being a business can have benefits too and not just draw backs. Businesses can attract more resources and employ more resources. It's not a one man team. It's lots of people given allocated roles. There are separate people doing the game development and other people taking care of the business side of things.

Then there's the money motive pushing people to work harder. If anything, a business is forced to be more efficient because lots of money is at stake. If I was getting paid to do something I'd do it more willingly and with better quality than if I was doing it for nothing. And if I was paying someone to do work for me, I would make sure he gets it done quickly and with good quality. If a business was just an impediment to work efficiency then why would anyone form businesses?

    You're kidding, right?

Notch's bugfixing is infamous among the community:

    1. Release new version, with tons of bugs
    2. New version is released, breaking all mods, and adding 2 bugs for every 1 fixed

So true. It makes me wonder how Mojang's resources are actually used when most of it is devoted to 'fixing' bugs.

Don't like the additions that's going to be added in 1.8. Doesn't really do anything for the sandbox genre. I'd rather have the height limit increased so I can build bigger things or build reasonably tall things atop mountains.

The second quote you 'cherry picked' was not even directed at you. Those quotes aren't even part of the same post. If you thought I was criticizing his lack of originality, then you should have quoted that earlier, and I would have made a response to that. But you're post...

Wrong again. Yes theres mods out there. But theres pretty much a mod that covers everything to think of. That's one of the good things about Notch in this update Isn't it? He's suppost to code into the game. Notch added moddding support by releasing the code. He didn't add full modding support he just let modding support. He adds something in the game everyone wants. It's not always about originality. Oh thats not original so let's not add it into the game. Fans don't care about how original it is they care about what it is. You don't come up with a brilliant idea and then say nah infact it's been heard before so we won't add it. Isn't that what everyone wants? Community idea's to come to life? If you think everything relies on how new and original something is then walk away from minecraft. It has original idea's but pretty much everything he adds has been covered in a suggestion or mod. Tell me 1 idea you have for minecraft that isn't daft and silly that you just came up on the spot not thinking about it's hp's drop's where it's found level of light spawn. Also pleasing 2 million people has nothing to do with originality I'm just saying if he adds something that doesn't intrest most of the community he can't add it in. He can't think of a idea then just add it in the game if the only thing he gets about that idea is No no no. Put yourself in Notch. You have to think of a idea that isn't in the suggestions forum or is a mod. If you think coming up with originality when half a million people everyday are coming up with idea's and posting them on the sugggestion forum or making a mod for it is easy?

is a response to one of my posts that does NOT include any criticism of Notch's lack of originality.

It's obvious you are trying to 'engineer' my posts in an attempt to 'win'. But since you've even admitted that Notch lacks originality, I don't see why you're even continuing to argue this point. Why not address the other points that are still being contended? All you are doing is flogging a dead horse.

Besides, I don't see why you should be so upset the moment someone criticizes Notch or Minecraft. This place is not an altar of worship to idolize Notch. This place is a forum where people voice their opinions.

Wall of text fail. Use paragraphs please.

Anyway, if you read what I typed then you would know I wasn't criticizing his lack of originality. I was criticizing YOUR suggestion that Notch is original. It was a response to your previous post that suggested Notch comes up with many ideas of his own. Now since you seem to admit he lacks originality, you've just contradicted your own previous post.

And when did I ever say fans cared about originality? In fact, if you read my post, I said the EXACT OPPOSITE. I also said the credit should go to the modding community. Maybe from that you can deduce that I think positively about the modding community? Or still confused?

So please, for the love of god, read my post before you respond to it.

Notch doesn't have any idea's of his own? He has 2 million people to please. He can't just go sword that kills any mob in 1 hit flat. It's hard pleasing 2 million people. He has to think of a idea that will open up to the majority of the public which can be very very very hard. Also He has nothing to do with Scrolls. He's not coding anything within it. There's still so many posts on this page to make a rant about but I don't have the time

Either you're in denial or you're completely oblivious to the existence of mods. All the content that will be added in 1.8 is in a mod in one form or another, or are incredibly basic features in many other games. NPC villages? Millenia Mod. Dual-wielding? Adventurecraft. Sprinting? Virtually any RPG or adventure game. Tell me one thing about 1.8 that is original. The same can be said about previous versions. Pistons? Piston mod.

And what does pleasing 2 million people have to do with originality? Senseless logic. You don't have to be original to please people. Especially when most of these people seem to have never played a game outside of Minecraft.

The modding community is where the credit should go to. They don't get paid yet they are doing a far better and more enthusiastic job than Notch and his team. 2 million copies of this game have been sold, and it's been a year since I bought this game. Little has changed. You'd think after selling that many copies and raking in that much $$$ (especially when no license or publication, or even advertisement fees are needed to be paid because Mojang is an Indie developer) that he'd invest some more resources into Minecraft development. But instead the resources are going into making that ridiculous card game.

Notch doesn't have ideas of his own. He either 'copies' other games or goes around 'shopping' in the forums to see what mods he feels like officially adding into Minecraft. He's moved his 'focus' onto developing that digital CCG (Scrolls or w/e) in an attempt to *rolls eyes* compete with MTG.

1.7 was a good update. Pistons is a small feature, yet it has infinite potential for creativity. An outstanding addition to a sandbox game. Quality over quantity.

1.8, I'm afraid is just going to be mostly junk. Most of the content won't have anything to do with the sandbox genre. If I wanted to play an adventure orientated game with raiding and bosses, I would have continued playing WoW. I'd be happy to pay $15/month for a vastly superior adventuring experience. Even if I went broke, I'd just play one of the hundreds of free MMORPG's out there which would still have superior adventure and RPG mechanics than Minecraft could ever develop.

All this excitement over 1.8 leads me to think most people here have never played a REAL RPG.
