Finally gold's low durability makes sense, "The candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long."

It's durability is way less than 1/2 of Diamond though, I believe diamond is ~1100 uses, Iron is ~130, and Wood/Gold is somewhere in the range of 50 - 75. Would really love a durability bump, especially for an ore this rare.

I do believe he is trying to keep it somewhat realistic as gold in real life is extremely rare and extremely soft for a metal. That is why no jewelery is 100% gold, it would just bend and break.

Notch needs to make our tools 14k gold.. Then they would have the strength and the durability.

    Explain Obsidian.

I just made a gold pickaxe to see what you were talking about... The amount of time that it lasted for does not at all make it worth ever using for tools still.

It currently serves no other purpose except for making a Watch and "showoff" armor, so if you're not using it for those limited purposes you should make tools out of them, which are far more useful than before.

I'd rather have a speedup to my branch mining for short bursts of time than not have any use for it at all, so it's usefulness rose sharply for me.

Gold Tools are now awesome for branch mining when looking for diamonds. They're twice as fast as diamond tools, so I usually create 3 or 4 pickaxes every time I go to my diamond mine, and at least 1 shovel. Definitely speeds up the rate at which I mine for diamonds, and I usually return with enough gold after a run to make more gold tools, though the return rate is usually way less than 1:1.

    Thanks Notch!

I'd really like to see it's durability tripled though, that would make them REALLY useful.

I've only ever seen ONE egg in my time playing, and it was just laying there randomly after coming out in the early day.
How do I get a chicken to lay me an egg? I've chased one around, tried to beat one out of it, followed it for over 5 minutes, and I haven't seen a single egg. Do I have to raise a chicken farm or something to see one? How do I get these damn chickens to lay eggs!

I'm pretty sure I know more than any of you SAY you do.

You should not say such things when obviously you do not. It just makes you look like a bigger fool.

I'm not the fool here. I work on computers, I obviously know how they work inside and out. Do you? No? Then shush

Then prove it, because the only thing you've said so far was "IM RIGHT YOU'RE WRONG".
Go away troll, please learn what the **** 32 bits are, and the difference between 32 and 64 bits.

bump. LAN works, External doesn't, canyouseeme.org shows port as open. Changing serverip to anything blocks LAN as well, is this a server problem?

I'm having some serious trouble having the door drop correctly and with double boosters. I can't get a double booster using the block/rail way.

And for some reason I simply CANNOT get the cart to get past the door and onto the ladder correctly, I have the booster track fully built.

It's definitely the new update. After updating and logging into my world (NOT a new world), I noticed a rather large (at least 10x10) pool of lava viewable from the surface, and it was DEFINITELY not there before today.

There's a phrase in programming that goes along the lines of "You can write FORTRAN in any language".

There are plenty of people who hate Java and love their pet language, and others whose pet language is Java. You'll find plenty of evangelists in this very forum, and plenty of people who are convinced it's the worst thing since unsliced bread.

The language doesn't matter. Notch could be writing LOLCODE and it wouldn't matter. What matters is how you write. As much as DaBiggMan hates Notch because of the time the man punched his dog, he's got a point that Minecraft could be better optimized. But that's not Java's fault. Rewriting in C#/C++/C/Ruby/Python/Scala/Smalltalk or whatever language you think is better isn't a magic bullet.

wtf? You do realize Java is a VERY HIGH level language right? That requires a runtime environment... unlike good languages like C/C++. Switching to C/C++ would speed up the game tenfold because it doesn't have to deal with crap that Java forces you to.

I started playing last week and I started working on a small railway system, I currently have a simple 4 rails booster every ~30 blocks forward, I REALLY need a way to use a Stone pressure plate to start the cart, atm it just goes back and forth regardless of whether or not there is a rider in it.

I'm looking to use the door boost where the pressure plate launches a cart down and boosts a double booster around, this would let me eliminate ALL of my boosters because the momentum should be enough to go all the way, and it would save so much material and space.

So, I need ANY and ALL documentation available on Minecarts, Minecart boosting, and related Redstone wiring.
