I tend to think of it this way... when I buy a game and there's no skin customization allowed, I end up playing either as a male or a creature (with few, but notable exceptions). When I buy a game and skin customization is allowed, I start off with a genderless or a male skin. This is really not much different than the latter case - you start off with a skin (regardless of gender!), and then you can change it if you want to.
In regards to Alex versus Steve, specifically, I was never happy viewing Steve as genderless although I was always happy to play as him whenever the skin server was down. If Steve was genderless, I seriously doubt he'd have a five o'clock shadow going on (although, to be fair, some ladies do end up having a bit of a facial hair problem. Alex, on the other hand, looks a lot like I'd imagine Jeb to look in blocky form, and his outfit is a heck of a lot more suitable to the tech-level of the game (i.e., middle ages with magic and an interesting electrical wiring system). I say "his" because, if we're talking about genderless, Alex looks a whole lot closer to the middle of the gender binary and grammar tells me "he" is appropriate when discussing things without gender. Dunno, though, I can see how a lot of people would view Alex as female. I don't, personally, and tend to believe that a lot of people hate Alex simply because they weren't given a choice and because people are - whether they like to admit it or not - generally resistant to change.
There's a massive cave system with lava flows, waterfalls and so on at x: -50.699 , y: 66.620 , z: 15.118
Wander around a bit and there are a number of other large cave systems, many with waterfalls and lava falls. Some floating sand without support (discovered this when I was dug through one sand block without paying attention and half the cave entrance collapsed on top of me). At 299.450 , y: 100.620 , -387.816 , an amazing view off a sheer cliff, with a few waterfalls, shelf-like structures at the top of mountains, one mountain shaped like one tall archway with a waterfall coming off it... One of the best seeds I've found thus far. Haven't found any dungeons yet, but am still wandering around. Will upload screenshots at some point.
