    Everything seems to be directly in the middle of a ocean biome, so no other land is around.

    I managed to flattend the entire island and reclaimed some water to grow more trees.

    There is one vien per chunk. Its very rare for two viens in adjoining chunks to be at the same depth upagainst each other, but it does happen.

    I don't know whay anyone would be angry at this.

    Minecraft was spawned from infiniminer. I see more in common with this game and block engine than I do with minecraft.

    Notch has made no attempt at all to move to C and cover consoles. There is no reason why minecraft should be king of the throne forever. I think a C based game will be superior for the simple fact of allowing direct 3D graphics and not being restricuted to the java VM output, for example that xbox game looks staggeringly better already, and it probably hasn't even been in development for half as long as minecraft nor with anywhere near minecrafts budget.

    I just hope that notch is making some sort of deal to bring minecrafts to consoles, otherwise he may end up flooded out. Every 3d game outgrows java eventually and requires GPU usage.

    i call bs on most people here, i mean a 50mb map takes over an hour of walking and people claim rediculous sizes, i would believe them on servers but not in single player unless you literally have walked for like 50 hours from spawn.

    So what does everyone make of the new chunk file format?

    I was a bit disspointed to see that its just stuffing blocks of 32x32 chunks into one file, I thought maybe they would stop using nbt or fundametally change what a chunk is (16x16x128 seems small and is a pain to work with).

    So now you have to go: co-ord to chunk co-ord to region co-ord :-\

    Also its wierd that they chose 4096 byte 'sectors'. They should have just used the standard 512 bytes, this would have ensured that the size of map does not increase on any system. With the new format for systems with 512 byte clusters (most FAT drives) the size of maps will increase by 10% to 20%. 3 byte sector count values are easily enough to handle 512 bytes sectors. I can only wonder if the author mixed up what a sector and a cluster is.

    So it will be about 4MB per region and 60MB for an uncompressed region filled with chunks.

    I can't help but think this new format is going to be a pain in the backside. For example lets say you update a chunk, and its compressed size changes from 1 to 2 sectors. Now you have to re-arrange your whole region file. If you just move it to the end, now you will have an unused 'sector', I bet every tool will do it differently, so the chunks will always be in wierd orders and we will probably end up needing region file defragmenters.... gah.

    The point of money is to be a store of wealth. Gold is durable, divisible, hard to manufacture, scarce. If you use gold to represent wealth. It has many of the ideal properties of money. The difference between gold and fiat currency is that governments can simply print fiat currency, where as gold can only be mined. That is why gold is now worth +$1500 per oz from once being less than $30 per oz. It not because "we just accept it" its because we need money for trade, and money will tend to be whatever material best fits the ideal properties of money.

    The main problem with the door one is that it involves using the NE rule, if you build it in the wrong direction the cart will turn when it leaves the track to settle on the door, I am getting this even when the return track is moved away form the upward track. I would rather avoid anything using NE rule since its to annoying to get direction underground.
