A: You have a plugin on your browser disabling access to the youtube javascript we use to help decrease the load on browsers loading the front page. NoScript is the only known plugin that is confirmed to do this. If you have having this issue, you need to disable those plugins through your browser's plugin manager.

Increased player cap to 16 and the ability to host a world that is open to anyone without them having to add you. They already did it with battlemode, so I don't see why it should be a problem with normal worlds.

A lot of things were changed in minecraft beta 1.6 (For example, Boats would only flow upwards in source blocks of water, not flowing water, which made it harder to make functional boat elevators. They also wouldn't flow up as fast as they used to.).
Anyways, My idea (Which I have tested and it works) consist of alternating signs and water.
Basically, the boat goes in a 2x2 shaft that consist of the following below:
D-D-D-D
D S-W D
D S-W D
D-D-D-D
And then alternates like so:
D-D-D-D
D W-S D
D W-S D
D-D-D-D
D represents dirt which is the block that contains the signs and water (I just choose dirt to represent the block, you can use any block, that doesn't matter).
W represents the water blocks (They can be flowing blocks)
S represents the signs.
Here is a picture of my example that I posted above for the shaft containing the signs and water:
