I use the cheapest host out there, OVH. For a Spigot server, yes you can get away with shared hosting, but if you are going vanilla you need a dedi.
No, you don't? Spigot is more resource heavy as far as I know (especially with plugins) not vanilla. -

When you put it like that then NO ONE will want to give money to the server owners or administration. I bet you that NO ONE wants to pay $5, $10 or even $15 to $20 for /hat or some other little insignificant garbage. NO ONE. This is why people are angry; server owners can't monetize their servers properly. Alright, let's say I don't want to have insane donor perks, like gamemode 1 for $100...no. Let's say player A gets a diamond sword by EARNING IT without donating. That's no problem. But when player B donates $5 for a small kit it's "Sjuper bad and it has to sTOPZZZ XD XD LOLZ"
In fact, the entire EULA thing happened because parents let their kids use a CC and spend too much money; but nothing in life is free. Good stuff has to be paid for — by someone. If it brings you joy, great! It's not like it's going to kill Mojang to allow that.
EDIT: Basically Mojang are not allowing creators of servers to continue their work and while this has raised a fair discussion, if a server that doesn't follow the EULA exists — don't play on it. Mojang doesn't have to enforce it.

I'm an experienced web developer and designer, but look here's the thing... I doubt you would pay freelancers, so if you want a person who works for free, you have to make contact easier. And Amanda, Discord doesn’t quite work the same way as Skype. You either have to join our server TeamSpeak-style (which is the fastest method). Or you can write down the last 4 digits of your discord#tag (like this: mvilcis#4667). In that scenario, I’d also need to send you a friend request.
