posted a message on XFX CORE RADEON 7870 1000M 2GB D5 2XmDP HDMI 2XDVI, fans run, no picture HELP
To give a little background here, as of now I am borrowing a friends Gigabyte GA-F2A85XM-D3H motherboard and AMD A10-5800k APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics until I get my parts which may not be for awhile. So I also put my newly bought graphics card, my XFX CORE RADEON 7870 1000M 2GB D5 2XmDP HDMI 2XDVI to be exact.BUT, there is a major problem. I get no picture. I have tried everything I can think of. The long paragraph below is the exact ticket i sent to XFX customer support for it, along with system specs.

My OS is Win7 x64 Professional.
    CPU(APU) listed above
    Mobo listed above.

*Although I am only borrowing these parts for a short while i do think it is very odd that not matter what i try, from BIOs to disabling the integrated graphics, that I get NO signal from my monitor. I have switched HDMI cords and the works, I am not sure if this is a priority issue and it just will not recognize the GPU or what, but I am out of options and I do not have another system available to test my GPU in. I get into it a little more in the green paragraph below.

---If need be, tomorrow I will post pictures of the steps I take to get the results listed below, such as my error messages from my GPU installation CD. It is a little late now and i just wanted to post this on here for hopefully some more feedback on what the problem may be, especially if it may be as a simple as clicking something.---

I am not sure what the problem is here. The fans to my GPU work great. But I get absolutely no picture. As of now to get picture I have my HDMI hooked up to my APU via my motherboard. I have tried everything that my friends and I can think of. From changing things in the BIOs to restarting my computer with only an HDMI into my GPU. (IMPORTANT-- ) When I do install the driver installation CD for the GPU, the first thing that pops up after I click "Run Setup" for the CD is "We were unable to detect an XFX product at this time. We recommend to click cancel, and restart your computer. If problem persists, click OK to continue installing the drivers from the disk." I have done both. and when I click OK to continue installing drivers . It brings up the next menu and i select my language (English) and proceed to the "System Check" part. there is a option that is labeled "Installed Drivers", I click it and it says "Check xfxforce.com for the Optimized Driver." I have come here and installed "Windows Vista 64-bit Catalyst - AMD Catalyst Software for HD-7000 models" and ran it and still nothing. When looking on Device Manger through the start program on windows it only shows the integrated graphics of the APU. I do not know if this is a priority issue, or if my GPU just will not produce picture, but I am out of options. As a last resort, i am downloading "Windows 7 64-bit Catalyst - AMD Catalyst driver for HD-7800 models" from your site. Which seems promising, but its downloading at the speed of a turtle, especially compared to the previous program which downloaded in about 10 minutes. This one is going to take about 2 hours for some reason. So I decided to do this in the meantime. Hopefully I have all info needed.

    please help :SSSS: :steve_flirty:

posted a message on For a Custom Gaming desktop; wireless adapter
i believe i have already decided on a build, this decision was also made with the help of a few nice people on the post i made earlier today.

so as for the wireless adapter, this will be a strictly gaming desktop, i believe that may differentiate the wireless adapter that i purchase considering the same follows for hardware, that average users dont need a Nvidia GPU.

i have seen two kinds upon browsing for approximately a half hour for a solid one and could not come to a decision, i saw PCI and USB wireless adapters, prices being interchangable, i know one hooks up to the mobo and the other is USB but is one potentially better than the other? if anyone has any good ones they know of pleaes feel free to put the link on here so i can check it out. i would not like to pay more than 70 really, as i am already on a tight budget. but we'll see! if i left anything out just say so

    happy holidays!

the post about my desktop i made earlier if you need info or would like to input on that as well the link to it is http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1615572-strictly-gaming-custom-desktop-need-input/#entry19885002

i updated it on my first post, also read what i quoted to Kruzzik_Nel , that should answer what you said. like i said to Nel as well, if you just say "its bad" that doesnt help me one bit. i need you to back up what your saying please. thanks for your input

    Its quite bad:

You have selected an APU and a dedicated GPU this is not a good idea if your going with an APU use the onboard if not get a normal CPU
again on the APU with the A10 you loose potential upgrade path

HDD is bad you want either a Barracuda or a Caviar Blue/Black

    Overpriced RAM

    Not great PSU

    Case isnt great

whats your budget and do require an OS or peripherals?

i will update your OS question on my post, but it is windows 7. i have that covered already so thats not an issue. not sure what you mean by peripherals. i would like to know why it is a bad case, rather than just stating, i need evidence to back up why please or that doesnt help me at all. this also as well for the PSU, as i selected these parts on compatability along with positive user reviews and popularity off of newegg, i need to know why. i will re-look into the HDD and RAM. but i would you mind explaining more in depth, more layman's terms, of what is the issue with that APU/dedicated GPU you said in your first sentence. thank you very much for your input

i built this last night off newegg. this is saved on my wishlist and this is what i have put together but would like experienced input, especially on the video card and processor. and to ensure compatibility with all my parts. any input is helpful. here is the the pic of all the hardware i have chosen: (sorry for the small pic, you may have to click on the pic once you open spoiler to see clearly

OS: Windows 7, i have that covered already though.
my peripherals; i already have, a wireless KB/mouse and a 1080p vizio 27inch it will be hooked up by hdmi of course

EDIT: budget, under 700. have read the 2 below comments, will be considering that information, please keep in mind i am new to this and this is why im doing this. [also, this will be, as the title reads, a strictly gaming desktop, used to play graphic intensive games such as GW2, maybe wow if i get in the mood for it, far cry3, or bf3]

Biostar is hit and miss for quality, some work fine some are not so great, Asus, ASRock, MSI, Gigabyte are good for motherboards

GPU has bad price / performance, something like a Radeon HD 6850 or 7770 would be better value for the money

Phenoms are older processors and don't perform as well as they used to when Intel has the i3 2100 and lower end i5s, plus there isn't much of a chance for upgrades with AMD at the moment due to FX failing for general use and gaming

give me a few minutes and i'll have a build put together

EDIT, done (freaking hillarious link ending, http://pcpartpicker.com/p/iPoo) iPoo, just had to lol

wow that is not a bad price at all. and i like the price on it. i was not really looking for an intel processor but at the same time this build is quite nice, I looked at it and it seemed like it to me but did you make sure all parts are compatible to motherboard? im just asking for the double check purpose. and also the only thing is the operating system would have to be taken out to just windows 7 home premium, lowering the price about $170 making it roughly $646. but at the same time do you know of any amd processors they may be close to the i3-i5 range but a little bit cheaper? and also at that point that motherboard wouldnt work out would it? if i was to lower that some then i would be able to maybe get a little bit more expensive water cooling. very nice i really appreciate that it helped out very much man

whats your budget? the Phenoms are getting dated, the GPU is meh for the price and Biostar is iffy on motherboards

as for liquid cooling, save $300 for it then we can talk. Closed loop liquid coolers like the H100 or H60 are just a glorified air cooler pretty much, a 212 Evo or Noctua NH-D14 will beat them for less

my budget... i would say 800 is pushing it, but i have not gotten a definite answer on that but i would rather stay under that. spending 300 on a liquid cooling system will not be possible, although that would be great! and phenoms are getting dated as in...? and GPU is iffy for the price and Biostar is iffy on motherboards....?

What im getting at is can you expand a little more please! i really appreciate your feedback

i am currently working on building a barebones system from tiger direct.com and am trying to get the best bang for my buck, this is what i have listed as my choice of purchase at this moment :
    • BIOSTAR A780L3G AMD 780L Socket AM3 Motherboard and AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz Quad-Core BE CPU OEM and Thermaltake CL-P0503 70mm CPU Cooler and Sony Optiarc AD7280S-OB 24x DVDRW Drive and ADA Bundle
    • E145-0554 ::EVGA 02G-P3-1559-KR GeForce GTX 550 Ti Video Card - 2GB, GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0 (x16), Dual DVI, Mini-HDMI, DirectX 11, Dual-Slot, SLI Ready, Plus Photoshop Elements 10 Promo(1.2 lbs)
    • M17-7302 ::Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium GFC-02050 Operating System Software - 64bit, DVD(0.5 lbs)
    • I am wanting to get a liquid cooling system but am not sure it seems like the decently priced ones (60-80) have reviews that say they work good but are noisy and need replaced fans which I can do but would rather not, if anyone knows of a good liquid cooling system please let me know!

-As it stands, I put everything in my cart and it adds up to a total of $635.00 (this is without a liquid cooling system of course) which i can deal with, but at this point I am asking more about quality vs. price not just price

I am building this because I love MMORPGS (as well as MC of course!) and i want to be able to play games like Guild wars 2 (which i currently play on lowest at 16fps avg </3) on atleast high settings and WoW (Been awhile since I have played it but i used to play at a decent 23fps on average) on a little higher than high settings.

Would this kind of system fulfill my criteria? I am not stupid I have definitly done my research on all of this but I am trying to get as many opinions as I can because this will be a One-Time buy for me (I am getting this as a 17th bday present) ANY HELP/SUGGESTIONS/COMMENTS WOULD BE GREATLY GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I know I mentioned this earlier but all of this shopping has been done on tigerdirect.com and I would like to keep it that way I am aware of other similar sights such as newegg.com or iBuyPower.com

    Thanks much!

Looks really good how it is, I feel that if it was made on a bigger scale you'd be able to include more of the detail of the original and make it look even better.

My only criticism is that the highest section of the tower should be a little taller than it is. Comparing it to the image you gave us, it seems that the top section is of similar height to the three below it put together, but unless you want to be picky, there's nothing wrong with it how it is!

    Good job!

i totally agree with you man but i actually had my dimensions for this planned out on a piece of a paper and the way i envisioned it i had plenty of room to cover the detail for this. i also believe that not only should the highest tower be even taller but the bottom base needs to be bigger. but i am happy with it and i appreciate your feedback :)

me and a few of my buddies have been looking for a project and one of them came up with a medieval themed town; which is inspired by the Hightower off of Game of Thrones. we are also working on a town which you will notice behind the Hightower in the spoiler below. we have up to 80 or so buildings at this point. and i am now going to start on a "capital" building. we already have a map which is a big island i created with voxel sniper, what do you think?? and any suggestions on what we could do for this "medieval based" town? :D

Here is what i wanted to try to build, Hightower off of Game of Thrones.

and this is my version of it. some smaller details were taken out due to it not looking very good in minecraft:p also the hightower is actually an octagon, but due to minecraft not allowing an octagon to have all equal sides i had to settle with a circle design and tried to compensate for it. also some small details i did not include in the recreating because it did not look very pleasant such as the stone brick ledges i did not include around the towers.

here is a picture of the town%buildings he has made so far for this project ( he wont show me the actual buildings yet :P
