Do whatever the hell you want, I don’t like Java so I won’t be coding this myself. Have fun!
That said, I am looking for coders who might be interested in making this a reality. If you want to do some, or all, of it, great, if not, great. I can be reached in #TrashMod on EsperNet. You can get there by clicking here: http://goo.gl/Vje3hR

    Concept:
To create trash byproducts from various existing items already in the game.

    Purpose:
Create more realism, more difficulty, and more to do in the everyday work of the player.

    Description:
In real life, when you eat a slice of watermelon, you’re left with the rind. When you eat a fish, you’re left with the bones. When you break a window, you’re left with broken glass. When you break an egg, you’re left with the shell. Well why not in Minecraft? Some might say, “because it’s a game,” but do we really have to accept that? Of course not! That’s what mods are for! This mod adds all sorts of trash byproducts to the game, as well as ways to handle trash, and even ways to process it into new materials (such as recycling). Handling trash is meant to be a challenge in the early game, which will be a bit easier mid-game once you have the resources to spend on machines like the compactor, and then then it’ll be a little harder as trash starts building up again, until late game. Actions will have consequences (e.g. compressing trash creates sewage), and possibly even dust.

    Items

Fish Bones* - Appears when fish is eaten or fed to an ocelot.
Melon Rind* - Appears when watermelon is eaten.
Chicken Bones* - Appears when chicken is eaten (cooked or raw).
Broken Glass - Dropped when breaking any type of glass block (block or pane, stained or not), 16 in a furnace will smelt back into 1 glass block.
(Paper) Litter* - Dropped when bookshelves are broken, instead of books. Appears similar to paper, but possibly darker, with scribbles on it, or maybe crumpled. Can be recycled back into usable paper.
Apple Core* - Appears when an apple, golden apple, or enchanted golden apple are eaten.
Egg Shell* - Appears when an egg is broken (thrown). Maybe also appears when crafting something that uses an egg too.
Bread Crumbs* - Appears when bread is eaten.
(Wood/Stone/Iron/Gold/Diamond) Sword Hilt(?) - Remains left after a sword’s durability is used up.
    Broken Stick(?) - Remains after a tool’s (hoe’s, axe’s, pick’s) durability is used up.
Broken Arrow(?) - Remains after an arrow hits something. Possibly only appears when not hitting a living entity.
Ashes - Byproduct of burning garbage in a furnace. Can be crafted with a bottle of water to make black dye.
Carrot (Stem/Top)* - Appears when a carrot or golden carrot is eaten.
Compost - Result of processed organic trash (Indicated with an asterisk (*)), acts like bone meal, but more or less effective (undecided).
Sewage - Garbage juice. Byproduct of compressing garbage in a compactor (see blocks) or WALL-C (see blocks).
Dust(?) - Spawns on certain blocks (e.g. planks) that don’t have a direct light of sight with the sky (e.g. indoors), can only be removed with a broom, in which case it drops as a useless item. Very small subtle texture, main purpose is to prevent the placing of other blocks. Want to move a few chests around? Better grab a broom! Might not be added.
Broom(?) - Only added if dust is added. Probably crafted from wheat and sticks. Used to remove dust.
Dust Pan(?) - Probably won’t be added even if the dust and broom are added.
Trash Bag(?) - Might need to facilitate the transition between Trash Can and Landfill.

    Blocks

Landfill Sign - Creates a multi block structure (see landfill for diagram) landfill for storing trash on a larger scale, possibly infinite.
Trash Can - Small scale trash storage. Items can go into it, but cannot be removed. When full, can be emptied into landfill.
Compactor - Trash processing. Compresses trash into a trash cube. Creates sewage (garbage juice) as a byproduct. Only requires power if a mod with a power system is present (e.g. IC2, Buildcraft, etc…)
WALL-C (Waste Allocation Load Lifter – Creeper-Class) - A robotic version of the compactor. Does not require power. Has multiple different modes:
    I. Collector: To activate this mode, simply right click to place WALL-C on any regular block (e.g. wood, dirt, stone, etc…), and then right click WALL-C with an empty hand while he’s awaiting orders. WALL-C will follow the player around, collecting loose items on the ground.
II. Garbage Man: To activate this mode, simply shift-right click on a chest with WALL-C in hand. WALL-C will scan a specific radius around the chest for trash cans, and will check them at regular intervals, emptying them when they get full, compacting the contents into a compressed trash cube, and finally, storing said cube in the pre-specified chest. Might not produce sewage.
III. Butcher: To activate this mode, simply right click to place WALL-C on any regular block (e.g. wood, dirt, stone, etc…), and then right click WALL-C with any meat in hand. WALL-C will remain stationary, and clean so as not to contaminate any meat. Feed him enough meat and he will create a raw compressed meat cube.
Raw Compressed Meat Cube (CMC?) - Placeable in the world, can be cooked in a furnace.
Cooked Compressed Meat Cube (CMC?) - Placeable in the world, can be eaten for high amounts of hunger and saturation.
Compressed Trash Cube (CTC?) - Literally a block of garbage. Placeable in the world. Has no actual use. Too dense to burn. Might be affected by gravity (like sand).
Composter - Some sort of device/machine to turn organic waste into compost.
Dumpster(?) - Large capacity trash can, take up 2 blocks.

The landfill is basically a bottomless trashcan. You just keep pouring more and more into it, and it sits there. The structure is built according to the diagrams above, the hard design is most preferable, the landfill sign being placed last, which will register the multi-block structure. The landfill might change to a special model after the multi-block structure is complete to better reflect a landfill (being a pointy pile/mountain of trash instead of just a bunch of blocks).
