If you are running a server from HOME, on your machine with a couple friends, well the updating is ok.
But if you are running a off-site commercial server that the hosting companies won't update to a new version
until a CraftBukkit Release candidate, this SUCKS!
With 1.8, my server just went through a 10 day wasteland.
I truly wish a truly wish Craftbukkit was developed by Mojang and the releases went hand in hand!
The reality of this situation is I have received my $12 of enjoyment from Minecraft a long time ago and Notch
owes me (or really any of us) nothing. I have not spent $12 and received this much enjoyment before.
Having run a number of companies, Mojang suffers from a problem many start-ups suffer from and that is being too ambitious. In reality in a perfect world they should never have taken on multiple projects as a TINY developer and rush to become a PUBLISHER of other games. I realize that developing for xbox and smartphones is a move to RIDE the wave before it dies, but that is why I think the community feels the lag in development that has mostly been carried by plug-in developers.
Too many conferences, trade shows and multitasking. You would not normally take your whole programming team to
a PR event. This is a challenge for a company like Mojang and Notch, who not only is the figurehead but the
inspiration/visionary as well.
I think the best direction would be to get a top notch API out there and that would greatly take the pressure off MOJANG.
But as I have said, I have no complaints, just my two cents.
After seeing the announcements about MINECRAFT going onto the 360 with Kinect
it makes sense why Minecraft development has been like watching paint dry.
I believe even if you have different people working on 360 version, you should have
gotten the PC version right first with all hands on deck before dipping your hand back
into the cash drawer. I mean 2,000,000 people bought this game, it would be nice to
reward that devotion.

Makes sense now.
