Instead of combining two aspects together to get a new research point of the desired type, can't you just shift+click on the desired type? It should then create exactly what you want without you having to find the component aspects and may work around that bug. Note that this shift+click feature is unlocked by either Research Expertise or Research Mastery (I forget which).
