So I was playing minecraft the other day, and my wife* (not a minecraft player) looks over and says, "why doesn't it look good"?
"What do you mean?" I asked, already getting a little defensive.
"I mean, it's not smooth, it looks old."
"It's supposed to be that way, it's part of the charm. But it's possible to make it look better." I clicked a couple of times and spooled up LBPhotorealism.
She squinted, "I guess. I don't really like it."
"Me neither."
And that's when it hit me. Why do photorealism packs fail? There is no denying they look pretty, but they're just not fun to play with. After chewing on it a bit, I've come up with some theories.
*This personage may have been a compilation of my wife, friends, and sister.
1. With no anti aliasing, they have a ton of artifacts.
This is hideous
2. The higher definition lends itself to more noticable repeating pattern sections
This also is not attractive, and draws attention to how unreal the packs are
3. The overall effect reeks of the uncanny valley.
The horror!
Meanwhile, the default pixel pack works so well pecisely because it has none of these drawbacks-- there are few to no artifacts, the repeating sections are not particularly noticable, and the overall effect works perfectly with the game as a whole. It does not, however, impress my wife.
Then it hit me. Why not combine the two elements? Keep the crispness of the realism packs with the warm familiarity of the standard pixel pack?
The result is my 'Pixelistic' texture pack.

Here's what I need from you
Download the pack, walk around, do normal 'minecrafty' type things, let me know what works, and what doesn't work.
Here's what I don't need:
-Complaints about the 'grid' effect of the grass, stone, and other blocks. This is done on purpose, and I am aware it's not everyone's cup of tea. I will likely release a 'seamless' version once the pack is completed.
-Complaints about how this is a simple 'bumpmapping' texture pack. A deceptively large amount of work has gone into this.
-Complaints about missing textures. This pack is in alpha, and textures will be completed over time.
Bookmark this page and return for updates. Thanks!

Improvement tip: the grass is a little too busy, it could do with less accents on the top.

Thank you, that did the trick.
I didn't know what format to post the planks in so I hope this is good: http://imgur.com/a/s08n8
Both the terrain with the planks in it and just the planks separated from the rest.

Great to see you back Eld! (yay for blizzard drm, j/k) This pack is one of the more beautiful packs out there and definitely my favorite 16x pack. I do have one request, could you maybe detail what textures you're changing with each release. It's been a little muddy with al the fan edits.

edit: my farm did change, does that have anything to do with it?
