While I don't play multiplayer minecraft (and almost certainly never will), I don't see a reason I should vote No. Some of these communities show breathtaking world building skills (even if not always they are able to display an equal level of social skills). My vote has to be an Yes, because this is too an important aspect to the Minecraft world that can't be ignored.
I always thought that the concerns against self advertisement (that are the basis of many server-related threads being closed, moved or deleted) need too be toned down to more acceptable levels. Often there's genuine quality in the work shown by a server staff that should deserve more attention. By including a multiplayer server in community spotlights they will finally have an opportunity to get recognition among members of other communities and other minecraft playstyles.
The only thing that shouldn't happen is a move into multiplayer favored content, as happened with many other games in the past. Single player communities are usually less vocal and participant of online activities (including forums and whatnot). But these are sizable communities still. Often larger than the multiplayer ones. Let's not forget, for instance, that a large and representative number of minecraft youtubers are singleplayers. These are the people that most helped spread the word about minecraft, the people that explored the game mechanics to its fullest and shared their acquired knowledge in constructions, traps, grinders, redstone, and a host of other marvels.
I'm only mentioning this because I've seen this happen before. What starts as a good intention, ends up consuming everything else around it. And I would hate to see online services around Minecraft becoming yet another multiplayer exclusive.

Lol @ people complaining about some laggy gameplay with 1.7.X. I'm still getting a solid 400fps on flatworlds, about 165fps on AMP'd worlds and at least a consistent 290fps on regular worlds. This is with a junky Geeforce 9800 with a DESKFAN cooling it down. Seriously, if you're going to whine about laggy gameplay and you don't have a dedicated card to perform what minecraft has to offer, just stick to old outdated versions because no one wants to hear it.
You really are a cut bunny, aren't you? Come here you cute little wee-dee-lee-wify bunny! Come to papa.
No one wants to hear how awesome your rig is, bunny. Those that aren't as fortunate as you (and you are so fortunate, you cute little bunny) do have FPS problems. And with this release, more than before. That's a bummer, but that's life. Life, you know, something you probably have no idea what it is. -

So I really wonder why Mojang is so interested in our Twitch account data...
Twitch has a similar ads mechanics to most other community driven services, like Google or Facebook. The Twitch Media Group, through its partnership programs live of ad placement and trading revenues. Mojang simply became a Twitch partner and is probably going to get its cut.
I'm not happy with this relationship between Mojang and what has essentially become an ad company. But fortunately Mojang did the right thing and isn't forcing it down our throats. You don't have to use it if you don't want to. So its not compulsory you create a twitch account to play minecraft. It will be only if you want to create or view twitch-based content. Which, frankly I don't advise anyone to do.
It's a interesting novelty to watch a live stream from within minecraft, but it will get old soon because YouTube has become the traditional Minecraft video source and I don't see Twitch ever being able to replace it or come near. -

I just love how Forge isn't even updated to 1.7.2 then the pre-release for 1.7.3 is here
I'm pretty sure their intention is to skip 1.7.2 altogether (see here). - To post a comment, please login.

I suppose adding support for new biomes shouldn't be much of a problem if one codes for the possibility of adding/changing biome IDs. But will it be a challenge to support these mods world gen features? I'm not familiar with the world generator in Minecraft, but it's my guess there's no way to code for generic support. You would have to provide individual mod support, making this a whole lot of work since you would then have to worry about keeping up with each mod version.
Is this true?

Two rules I always (that's ALWAYS) play with: keepInventory true, mobGriefing false

A mod Story should be a survival journal told in the first person of one Howard Phillip. A stranded man in a mystical strange land, a world completely different from our own. It will tell the story of his exploits and his efforts to thrive and stay alive, always with the hope of escaping home to his family; Grace his loving wife, and his two daughters Rita and Vanessa.
The story will be centered around his personal conflicts. And we will learn much about who Howard is and how the torment of longing can drive a man to either despair or hope and adaptation. Howard will cycle constantly between these as he grows old in this land.
Will he ever escape? We shall see... Not even I know at this point. The story is pretty much unknown to me at this time.
---
I'm playing the game in a heavily modded 1.6.4 version. The mods will be hinted over the course of the story. Some will be easier to note than others. But all, without exception, will have some reference or multiple references. Should be interesting to note how many of you will be able to find them. There should be around 30 mods installed by the time the story is finished. The game is starting with 20.
The story will not always directly reflect my playing experience. I will always try and stick to it, since I have a penchant for roleplaying my games. If I say I didn't visit the village, I actually didn't visit a village in the game. But sometimes I may deviate from this and tell a white lie, usually to facilitate the actual playing of the game, other times to enrich the plot.
I won't schedule my post submissions. They will happen when they do. And I won't promise I will be able to finish Howard's story. But it's very likely I will, since I don't often like to leave something unfinished. But expect a flurry of posts in a week, along with just 1 or two posts in a whole month. Such are the pressures of a working family man, as you should surely understand.
Hope you enjoy this and hope you end up knowing and liking Howard.

Of the top of my head, why?
As far as I know AMD's implementatation of OpenGL still supports Occlusion Culling and it isn't broken or anything. Many games have implemented this feature. The feature has always been a bit two-sided on Minecraft, but I wasn't aware this has been a problem with different card vendors all along.

Prelude
My name is Howard, I'm 44 years old, married with two daughters. And I'm a castaway, marooned, a prisoner of this strange, isolated and uninviting world. How I got here I don't know. I have no recollection of the events that lead to my unfortunate situation. I cannot seem to be able to recall even what were the last days that lead to it. Anything that could give me a glint into the past has washed away from my mind. But I do recall my wife, my daughters, all my life. My childhood, the names of people. I can recall places and events. My memories are intact.
I know who I am, where I belong. I just don't know why I'm here and how I got here. I know, I've seen it, and it became clear from the start I don't belong here. This place doesn't want me here. And it will keep conspiring against me, until it either kills me or expels me.
This is the 70th day of my captivity and I have decided to start a journal. I will begin by recording past events and once I'm done, should I still be alive, I will keep a faithful log of the present and the future. Should you find this journal and was not I who gave it to you, then know I either found my escape or lie dead somewhere. In either case free from my torment.
I write this not for me. I don't require any more manner of lucidity. I long for insanity to take me away from this agony. It is an ally, insanity. It will cloth me against the cold, it will remove the fear of the night (oh! The nigh in this place!) and it will calm the pain of missing those I love. No, I write it for you my imaginary friend. The person I hope one day to meet and either accompany me in this cell, or rescue me from it. Or let it serve as a guide to you, should you come after me.
Not all is despair, despite despair being all I feel. There's beauty in this dangerous world, there is sense in the madness you will find here. Let me tell you my story and let us pray that story will serve you.

We all are fully aware of the benefits of the Mod API, thank you.
What some of us weren't expecting is that it was actually decided to implement it by breaking backwards compatibility. A common no-no in software development.
Have a nice holidays.

- The new biomes (with an exception, see below)
- Dark oak trees. Absolutely great stuff for building
- Resource Pack Menu
- /summon, /setblock, /testforblock commands
- Nether Portal more flexible format
- Stained Glass
Hates:
- The Plugin API that ruined any chance of playing up to 1.7.4 with mods. And who knows when we get mods back...
- Small lake-like oceans. They no longer help shape and define continental landscape.
- Birch Forest biome, I just don't see the point. Birch trees used to give variety to forests. Now, it's like forest apartheid.

a - The Mod API completed
b - The Mod API abandoned

I don't think that is the one reason people think this is, or would like, another Adventure Update. I don't think I can remember anyone mentioning that as a reason. Maybe one or two people.
Even you expressed the desire for an adventure update.

World Name: Perdido
Seed: 7640719029171653686
Perdido is a reference to China Melville's Bas-Lag series of books, set in a Steampunk world and where magic is referred to as thaumaturgy. It is also the Portuguese and Spanish word for lost.
You spawn near a village with 9 knowledge fragments and a thaumocomo-blahblurg... that book thing (still new at thaumcraft, forgive me). The wizard there will sell you emeralds for chicken nuggets. No blacksmith though.
With the village as a reference point, NE you can find a large enchanted forest. And SW tainted lands, a long enough distance to remain safe. There's plenty of biome variation in a small radius of 500 blocks for all your needs including Extreme Hills with their beautiful/weird formations.
Plenty of construction grounds since you spawn on Plains, although I find the hilly area NE of the village on your way to the enchanted forest, particularly beautiful for a base.
And here's the weirdest rock formation I've seen in quite a long while. I call it Dyaus Pita, an Hindu god, father of all chief deities, who appears as a horse.

Answering my own problem and for future reference in case someone else stumbles into the same problem.
It's apparently indeed an MCPatch issue. I downgraded from 4.3.1 to 4.2.2, which was, IIRC, a very stable release for 1.6.4 and the blue grass finally became visible.
