posted a message on Survival can, and should be, improved (Part 2: Electric Boogaloo)
Very good sir. I was moved in a sort of bad way from your previous post, but this one was much better. I didn't have enough time to read the whole thing, but from what I did read you were very correct about.

Sighh...If only Mojang would read this...

posted a message on How To Improve: Minecraft Survival
So I have just read a post where a man/woman talked about and explained what he/she would like to add, change, and remove from the survival game of Minecraft and other aspects about it. He says that the fundamentals of survival need to be improved greatly. I couldn't agree more. So now I have decided to create my own post on how I would believe the survial aspects of the game could be improved. It's these things that would help Mojang's game become great. I'm not saying my opinion is the end all be all of the survival game I'm just saying that this is where I see the game's potential to be...well...potential.

This post is about the VANILLA Minecraft game. I will not install mods to create these fixes.

    Problem #1 (P1) - The Terrain...

Not just the size and scale of the terrain, but the features found within them. Sure each biome has it's own SMALL perks but nothing extremely major.
    • Extreme Hills has emerald ore
    • Deserts have cactus and pyramids
    • Forests have birch trees
    • Swamps have lily pads
    • Taiga has snow
    • Mushroom Islands have...mushrooms
    • Annnnnnnndddd Jungles have kittens
All of these things are nice and all, but you don't NEED emerald ore, or cactus, or snow, or cats to survive all the way to the End and back. And yes you don't need to go on about the different types of wood and the wolves and trees and the grass. I know they are there, but those are more to do with exploration. The terrain in Alpha was akward as in akwardly shaped mountains (which were pretty cool) but that kind of terrain wasn't good. Sure you got cool overhangs and weird pits and caves, but it was mostly that and little variety. In Beta 1.8 the terrain in this time had to be my favorite. They added swamps and mushroom islands which were the first two biomes since......biomes?? Maybe not the only two but you get the idea, it called for exploration! Then in 1.0 and beyond (this was written at the time of 1.2) Mojang made the terrain blend into one another to a severity. Rarely ever do we see wacky mountains and EXTREMELY flat areas of land (excluding SuperFlat of course). It's just gotten bland and boring. There is no difference in them than a few structures, a few random blocks and mobs, and of course the, in most places, gross grass.

    Solution #1 (S1) - The Terrain...

Instead of adding more biomes without purpose add these instead...
    • Greener grass in every biome except the swamp
    • Make the terrain more varied (as in size and scale) on the biome borders (and in them too)
    • In the plains biome the land should be FLAT and not HILLY
    • Create new biomes like: Hills - The current plains, Volcanoes - Mountains with some sizzle, and etc.
    • Instead if adding more (mostly) useless mobs and decorative blocks to the biomes add things like faster or stronger variations of current mobs or make certain mobs have special abilities in these biomes. Add things that make the biome more feared or more loved than just having them be...there.

    Problem #2 (P2) - The Mobs...

The mobs in this game in my opinion are fairly easy...too easy. Yes they can be difficult in certain situations and under the right circumstances, but only under those circumstances are they very challenging. It takes 3 or 4 hits to kill a zombie with an iron sword. If I stand in place I can easily kill it. With a skeleton I just have to wait until he fires his latest arrow and swing at him 3 times and he is done. Creepers aren't challenging. The reason people fear creepers most of all is because of what they could do, not what they are doing. The enemies that might give you a tough time are the spiders and enderman. But with iron armor and an iron sword they are fairly easy to kill if your somewhat experienced with killing them. Am I an experienced monster slayer? No, not at all. I've never successfully completed the first room in any of Vechs' Super Hostile maps. I myself play on peaceful half the time because I get frightened every time by the simplest of mobs (which is sort of hypocritical, but true none the less).

    Solution #2 (S2) - The Mobs...

    To improve the mobs...
    • Skeletons to shoot faster
    • Zombies to run faster
    • Creepers have a chance to detonate randomly when sliced by a player
    • Spiders to perhaps climb upside-down (this would be especially devastating for cave spiders)
    • Enderman I cannot really improve because they are quite the challenge anyway and I don't have too many of my creative glands flowing.
    • Random events to occur randomly like 1 in 30 days. This would have zombies or some other mob spawning two, three, or even four times as often and being able to track you from many more miles/meters away than they usually do
    • As previously stated certain mobs in certain biomes and other locations have different status buffs.
    • The mobs that survive in the daylight or the shade of day have improved stats as well
    • Mobs should spawn at light level of eight and below instead of seven and below. This is because 15 (the max light level) divided by two is 7.5 and when they coded mob spawning they went with the lower half instead of the upper half.

There is so much more that I would like to talk about and mention like The End and Combat Options and much more that need to seriously be improved upon, but I would just like to get the idea out and to not create my own Minecraft.

And seriously Mojang I know you do try to improve things and I know you are having an office move at the current moment, but there are some obvious things that need to be improved and reworked. It's not that difficult for a large dragon like mob to shoot fire and roar...

But please voice your opinion and reply and talk about what you think should added and/or removed.

    Thanks.

Note: I will not be replying to anyone for the most part in case you wanted me too :P

posted a message on The "survival" part of the game is bad on a fundamental level.
My reply to your post sir or madam ( obviously that's why I'm here )

1a. I have to agree with this. I agree with this on the fact that the player should have some sort of in-game help. However, my solutuion would be to give them a sort of recipe book that shows how to create wooden tools and how to smelt and all of the basic crafting funtionalities and then let them figure out that they can make better tools with stone and iron etc. Other than that it was a good point.

2a. You may be good at the game and don't find it difficult but I would have to say that myself and a good portion of the players find it fairly difficult. You are mostly right though. Instead of just switching to peaceful when in a sticky situation with a creeper or two why not just get some sort of punishment for switching to peaceful or something. Get less XP from mobs, lower chance of rare drops or drops in general. I would be okay with that sort of thing. But to have the option completely removed wouldn't be too much of a problem for me, but it would be a more serious problem for those who might use that choice to test or try out some part of the game.

3a. The mobs may be just an annoyance, but I believe that that is what they are supposed to do. They are not supposed to keep you on high alert on most of your days playing (in the begginning perhaps but not certainly after a few days playing). But some improvements could made to the mobs. I would like faster zombies. But I wouldn't want an army of them approaching me every night because they could see from the horizon. But maybe under certain circumstances...Random events with mobs making them more dangerous. I would absolutely play on the hardest difficulty just to play/fight through those. Spiders crawling upside down would be a GREAT addition making them more challenging to defeat, especially the cave spiders.

4a. The truest thing anyone has said about the game. If anything at least make the grass in some of the biomes greener. Now when you see the very mountainous extreme hills you'll say "AWESOME" instead of "Ewwwwwww..."

5a. This is the one I disagree with the most. It can get boring just fighting with a sword all the time and even when using a bow it is still pretty boring after awhile. Using enchantments makes it a little better but still doesn't change much of the gameplay (it actually makes it easier and a little more boring after awhile). Using potions and creative things like fishing rods to fight is a lot of fun. It is also time consuming to get the resources and again...gets boring after awhile. Adding things like spears, warhammers, battleaxes, etc. will only change the game slightly. It will give players a new way to fight, yes, but it will in all of it's simplicity feel like using a sword again no matter the stat changes. What they should add with weapons is the use of explosions (not TNT), thrown objects, magical projectiles/hand weapons that have strange effects. With this addition people will feel a much higher instigation to go and fight hostile mobs. You are very correct with the armor however.

6a. Yes and no. We need a few more player abilities (like 2 or 3...maybe 4), but not 8, 9, 10, etc. like how many the Smart Moving mod has (I'm assuming there is at least 8). Things like improved swimming and the ability to slide on the ground would be pretty nice.

7a. Yeah if you every look at the Minecraft reddit (and other forums/blogs) you will see 20% of the content are renders of a build or the landscape. 20% showing off their base or something funny or strange they found in SSP or SMP. 10% giving their own suggestions to add to they game (which half the time are not that spectacular). 10% complaining about the game or talking about the bugs in the game. 10% is fanart, memes, and other assorted references. 5% are tutorials (these are actually pretty good). 5% are update videos and posts about certain events that will happen in the Minecraft community (again not that bad). 5% are actually sensible and smart posts about the game. 10% are the not so good/smart comments and 5% is the smart and more sensible comments. It's an unfortunate thing. However, the community has done some pretty amazing stuff so far.

So all in all the game needs some serious effort and thought put into this game (like you stated). But it is not a bad game at all. I will play for several more hours to come and I will enjoy it, no matter what they add or don't add.

P.S. Swearing and constantly saying "hurrrrrr" doesn't help your case unfortunately...
