Heh, then we'd be forced to live without cloth for airships and balloons and stuff. In all seriousness though, I don't think it will look too bad. Might give the Nether a sort of dead-underground-civilization feel to it.

you know iron plates would look good as an airship skin, though i don't know about a lead balloon, lol.

i'm not against him using the nether for steel plate ether. but i saw there was some speculation on whether or not steel plates as nether would be immersion breaking. i was just throwing out some ideas for alternatives.

which leads me to another idea, glimmer you could make the Iron plates look more like a fuel cell/tank. <- that would make it more believe able. though i fear it would diverge to much from you original design.

really in the end this pack is Glimmar's it is his choice with what direction to take it. regardless of what we/I say. because i will still follow this pack and i will still use it, as long as Glimmar supports it, and possibly even after it.

    i am loyal like that.

haha, it ok. i play a lot of SMP with the Runecraft mod on the server, and using iron ore as a settable block is key to one of the runes, 'the hidden passage'. when i played single player iron ore went strait to the furnace.

and Glimmar is right about the balancing factor of using iron ore as the iron plates. i mean there really isn't many blocks left to chose from. so Netherstone is really the only option left. that is if you don't want iron plate coat sheep.

and i think the oily/dirty metal plate is a brilliant idea.

Glimmar i'm going to be honest with you. i do enjoy your pack and i find it one of the best looking packs, if not the best 32x32 pack on these forums. and i hope you don't take this the wrong way, but i have felt that your smoothstone (epstially next to the cobble) and the half blocks both felt a little out of place and a little bland bland.

i know you can do better, i mean look at all of your other blocks, furnaces, crafting boxes, and chests are simply amazing. the details make them a highlight for any home or steam punk contraption. the door make me feel like i'm stepping into some some made laboratory, or onto a submarine. your gold, iron, and diamond blocks; i look at them and i'm amazed at the detail, how do you do that? even the cobblestone, which initially i wasn't the biggest fan of, has grown on me. and then i look at your smooth stone, and i wonder how did the cobblestone come from that.

i mean the smoothstone is good on its own right, but it feels a little out of place. and the same could be said for the half steps, i think they could be a little fancier, and could have some more details. especially next to the new Iron plates which look very good, but my eye can't help but get drawn to that half block.

I hope my criticism was more constructive then destructive. and you don't halve to take my words as gods, but i hope you at least consider them with a grain of salt. other wise, i wait eagerly to see this pack completed.

you can place iron ore without an inventory editor. i think your thinking red stone ore and diamond ore; or iron and gold ingots. have you actually tried placing them?

unsmelted iron and gold ore are replace-able after you mine them.

i can't argue that it wouldn't looks out of place in a cave.

i'm just throwing random idea out there, the last one i have is making mossy cobblestone iron plates, but that comes with its own issues.

you know you could make iron ore the Riveted Iron Plates. having iron ore as the the plates would, first get rid of the burning forever issue that netherstone has, next next it is harder to mine then normal rock which would make since, third i think having iron ore as iron plates would fit the theme better, and lastly you could do something similar to gold ore.

though the only real problem i see is when you are in a cave it would look strange and out of place, but i still feel it fits better as an iron plate then netherstone.

i really enjoy you texture pack and i hope, my 2cents helped.

Glimmar, the hellstone could be magnesium plates, i think that them being magnesium could also explain why they burn.

Sorry to do this to you, but i forgot that the version of the my pic was outdated. a few weeks back i had cleaned it, and changed a few details. the version below is the one that needs love, not the one i posted earlier, which needed even more love.
