I still think the Tall grass should be changed, Shrubs look better then the grass, You could make a shorter version of a shrub and it would fit perfectly.

Anyone point me in the right direction on how to get minecraft to install to another location to have two installs one heavily modded and one for MP.

Issue I have right now is I have Mo creatures,Aeather,Better than wolves mods installed butthe MP aspect of the game wont even start I try to connect to my own server and I blackscreen with a java errors In console.

I run the Jar bases launcher to dedicated more ram to the game so I can see the CMD window print out :wink.gif:.

So yea sorry if this is wrong section but that's basically all I need to info about.

P.S I'm pretty savvy I administrate my own server and have been involved in IT for over 16 years.

    @op
I wonder if you had any ideas for changes to the grass I mean I love the comic feel of the pack but the grass pushes me away from making it my main pack, They look liked weeds more than grass.

I would not mind some commic tall grass normal looking tall grass.

posted a message on FPS show off
It's only a few posts up from this one :Notch:.

Mind you I got that score on a Nvidia 285GTX not even close to what someone could get with a 400-500 series card.
Let alone SLI what I have.

My system is only a Intel Core quad 3.2ghz 8gig ram and that card. See Told you it was couple years old but it sill runs everything to date prefectly the vid card could use a upgrade tho if I had to really picky when it came to the odd I mean really rare 40ms game stutter in RPG games where there is a LOT going on.

But Crysis 2 is the apprently the new Visual kid on the block and I seem to get 100fps + on Highest gfx @ 1600x1650 rez no stutters or mini pauses at all.

My drivers are not even updated past nvidia's 19x WHQL range, Due to the 2xx series drivers really suck on cards below 400GTX Line up.

:SSSS: Max I can get - avrg is around 190-300 in SMP on 1.5_02 with Fancy>EffectsOn>Far
:Notch: Taken in SP on Fast>Effects off>Tiny - Avrg evens out to around 1400fps
:|: Not best Fps for sure considering my rig is a couple years old.

Maybe so needed saying anyway it was kind of a lead up to my other post.

I have not had chance to test SMP yet in 1.4 I fear its MUCH worse tho tbh. I refuse to use any server notch brings out so I will wait another day for the extra plug ins our bukkit server uses.

posted a message on Delay/Lag in SMP - unplayable
I can share with you the post about this if would like to see the state 1.3 was in.
The below information is found - http://getsatisfaction.com/mojang/topic ... tification

    By Chase O
This reply will summarize what we have figured out, etc, in the last 128 replies, makes it more organized and stuff.

We do know that the game is in beta, and therefor is expected to be buggy, but when we cannot play one of the the main aspects of the game, while the creator has millions of dollars and an entire office/team, there's no reason why it can't be fixed.

    --

We have figured out some of the lag is coming from Java, and it not giving proper memory to Minecraft. But, most server owners start their server with the -xmx variable without knowing it, and the problem with Java was there before the 1.3 update for clients. If you add the -xmx variable to Java yourself, it clears up some lag, but that was there before the 1.3 update anyways.

You can find a tutorial on doing this here.

    -

We have figured out the lag has something to do with packets - this would explain why it's only on SMP and not SSP. The "reason" for this lag is the massive spam of mini-packets which produce a big overhead. Florian created this program, which, buffers the packages and sends them out every 50ms.

I have tried this myself, hearing many success stories on it getting rid of the lag- but so far have had no good results. Still trying though!

    -

We have figured out Mojang still hasn't noticed this problem, or is just ignoring it. So far, with 80 people having the problem, it's on the first page of common Minecraft problems; and they still haven't even "acknowledged" it, but other problems have been even with only 20 people saying it. So, keep trying!

We know that this is being worked on, perhaps it will fix the same problem?

That report also supports that the SP version of the game was doing well at this point!

I have also updated my other post!

Patch 1.4 seems be a bit of 50/50 amongst the users but judging from my experience and what I have read so far! of others experiences it seems to be that lower end pc users who had bad fps in 1.3 notice minor changes for in 1.4 sometimes for better others for worse bottom line of what I can gather is they are used to the game running at a poor 20fps to begin with and don't really know any better to judge on it, While those with better rigs Notice distinct drop in performance over 1.3.

I really don't wish to try and single users out it really seems a case of It works well or fails in a big way. I'm just disappointed that yet again I need to come up with some hacky workaround to issues that should never exist to begin with.

I see notch failed to fix the prev 1.3 SMP bugs then. I expect you all still get Overflow issues as well.
man I love it when people think beta means severe bugs so expect them.

Definition for Beta says that all MAJOR elements of the game and code exist and all major issues resolved beta is the time people test it out to find only the SMALLER bugs that don't really get in the way of the game.

Things like Excess lag and over sending packs causing an overflow error,Chunk load issues,Chat delay, unstable performance caused by existing and new system resource leaks. Should have been fixed a long time ago in alpha and new issues resolved promptly.

Putting in features over the fix of issues that pre existed in 1.3 is the exact opposite of beta.
What I hate most about this game is you can pretty much guarantee to have your support questions ignored by the company esp when it comes to the " Get satisfaction support page"

Honestly how many asses need kissing before what we really want done is actually done, Just look around that Get satisfaction Bug report section, You will find at least 4 reports of Severe issues from patch 1.3 one of them actually has sufficient data to prove the ROOT cause of the issues to do with the lag spikes and all of chunk issues as well the overflow and time out issues.

It has some 180 people voting it up to be looked at and instead of fixing what the people his fans want he adds a freaking pet wolf/dog that he promises ONE! man.

I can hear the trolls already " Does the representation of the Trolls commenting found on you-tube's Equals Three"
All of the what I just said is factually for the most part, I happen to be one of the people who take notice of these issues and is plagued by it, My server on other hand thankfully last patch did not get serious issues as some, But I can near guarantee it will now.

My SP was running flawlessly apart from existing issues but FPS wise and debug monitor was excellently smooth and fast at a nice 200fps on Far view distance. Come to this 1.4 and I'm lucky to see 70fps for more the 20 sec even when I turn fog on its still no better and the WHOLE game feels like I'm playing at 20fps or lower, 20fps is NOT a PLAYABLE frame rate by almost any true gamers standard that is WAY below decent for a game like this on some of the rigs I have seen playing this.

Now for no apparent reason I will like to mention I play Crysis 2 on modded graphic settings using the GFX tool released by the modding community because EXTREME was just not high enough! and that game uses LESS memory and runs SMOOTHER then Minecraft.

Thats saying a LOT for state of this game right now. It could be another factor that I continue to test but I'm pretty darn sure this game as YET ANOTHER bad memory leak that is sucking away performance.

To test this I started a new WORLD! I sat in the world at IDLE "Not moving in anyway" for several minutes monitoring system resource usage.

My findings are shockingly poor to say the least, Java the Process that actually runs this game consumed little over 980mb of ram.

FPS was spiky from 24-98 with Avrg of 45

That compared to 1.3 is total ******** and judging by the whole of this post and my testing and other games I tested you can see my machine is no slouch. You can also see that patch 1.3 was fine for SP only the SMP had some issues for some.

Compare that to 1.4 you can see something drastic is wrong with it. I don't expect it to be fixed or even noticed any time soon all I can say is I quit playing this game until it is, It's not exactly playable right now.
