Dec 18, 2011Posted in: Computer Science and TechnologyQuote from ChristoiLavacopter, since adobe products already need around 3-8GB to install (depending on which programs you get), I'd assume you'll need a lot more (not to mention renders...).
I have Photoshop on my 60GB SSD (takes up about ~10 GB I think), but I use one of my 1TB platter drives as a scratch disk. Basically with Windows, Photoshop and a few other programs it's about half full right now. Also, I was able to free up a lot of space by getting rid of my page file and hiberfil.sys. :tongue.gif:

I see NO VRM COOLING OF ANY KIND.
The Voltage Regulator Module (circled in red) consists of what are called "mosfets" and "phases" which regulate CPU power. These are supposed to have a heatsink over them *especially* on boards designed for overclocking, because they get extremely hot, and can even burn out and fail possibly frying your CPU. I'm honestly surprised ASUS didn't include one on this model considering that it's advertised as being able to overclock + it supports 140W CPUs. What I'm saying is, no VRM cooling + overclocking a 125W CPU is a good way to burn your house down (well, probably not, but it'd be a doozy.)
Also if you want to read an extremely TL;DR post on Overclock.net about it, here you go: http://www.overclock.net/t/943109/about-vrms-mosfets-motherboard-safety-with-125w-tdp-processors

My Family Computer:
iMac ( i know, not for gaming, but it runs minecraft)
4-core processor, 2.7ghz, 4gb RAM
1 TB hd
AMD Radeon HD 6770M graphics card
All on a 27 inch screen.
The Custom pc im saving to get (i am hoping it runs high intensity games, ex: Skyrim, MW3, etc)
price cap: 500$ with having my parents buy the screen for 60$
AMD phenom II processor 4-core 2.5 ghz
2 4gb RAM (8 total)
Biostar N68S3B GeForce Socket AM3 Motherboard
Corsair 60GB Nova Series 2 SATA II SSD (240 mb/s write speed; 270 mb/s read speed)
My friends lending me his windows 7 install disk
i need to know of good graphics card
do i need Hard drive?
Yes, lol. That 60 GB SSD is really just for the OS.

Why do you think I described it as a budget computer? Seagate hard drives work just fine btw and the case is all personal preference.
Edit:Actually I just noticed the heatsink isn't even made for AM3 soket cpu's, only AM2.
The components are terrible though. Even on a tight budget like that, one could do better component-wise.

Why would you limit yourself with a 560Ti if you spent that much on the rest of the build? That and I dislike your mobo. Seems like a silly choice.
Because I can't justify spending $350+ on GPUs when Minecraft is basically the only game I play, and Photoshop runs fine on a 560.
What makes it 'silly'?

- i7-2600K @ 5 GHz (NH-D14 cooler)
- 16 GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM
- 560Ti 2GB - 975MHz core OC <---going SLI soon
- Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 motherboard
- 60GB OCZ vertex III + 5TB of caviar black drives
- Corsair HX750 PSU
- Antec 1200 case
- some HP monitor @ 1920x1080
- windows 7 of course
Dec 13, 2011If it's just a gaming PC then a 2500K would've saved you $100. The 2600K has Hyperthreading (useless for games) and 8MB L3 cache as opposed to the 2500K's 6MB. In other words, not worth the extra $100 for most people.Posted in: Computer Science and Technology
Pretty decent build nevertheless. I want a 580 too D:

Dec 11, 2011A friend of mine said he got "a virus" and needed me to fix his computer. So he dropped it off at my house and said he'd pick it up in a week since he was going out of town.Posted in: Computer Science and Technology
It was a cheap HP minitower from Walmart with a single core Athlon AM2 CPU, 1GB of RAM, onboard GPU, 120GB Seagate drive and 32bit Vista Basic. It literally took 30 minutes to boot, and when I finally scanned the drive, I found 41 viruses and trojans. I was going to wipe the drive completely and reinstall Windows, but then I installed HDTune and found that the drive was close to dying anyway, tons of bad sectors. I tossed it in the trash and put in a "new" 500GB WD caviar black (scavenged from my mom's Dell that she gave me when she "upgraded" to a Mac) and did a fresh Windows 7 install. I checked temps with Speccy and saw that the CPU was idling at 67C, but I checked the CPU cooler and it had only a small amount of dust on it, so I took it off and discovered the mounting clips were broken and not allowing full contact. I happened to have a Coolermaster 212+ cooler left over after I upgraded to an NH-D14, so I installed it along with another 1GB of RAM and got everything up and running smoothly, and he paid me $100 even though I was expecting it to be a free job. LOL.

Why would I want to buy a game on xbox when I have it for PC already? Doubt xbox will have any modding support and very poor multiplayer, which is half of what is great about minecraft.
