Only in the sense that the merits the thing is being reviewed upon are subjective. You're otherwise dead wrong.

Say I was a reviewer and I gave Modern Warfare 3 a 0/10 because I don't like FPS games. It's my opinion, though, so therefore my review is both valid and unassailable. Does that seem right? No, it doesn't, because reviews are meant to be impartial, free from opinion.

If your opinion differs so greatly from the general consensus, then is it really appropriate for you to be publishing on a popular review site for people to use as a guide to help them decide if they want it or not? No, it's not. It actually probably means you're bad at your job.

I disagree, reviews should be subjective, at least to a point, in fact they sort of need to be, a review being 100% impartial is impossible... Some people enjoy certain art styles, other don't, some people enjoy certain game mechanics, other don't, so on and so on. Reviews just need to state, first of all, what's in the game, then what they like or think is good about the game, and what they dislike about the game. instead of looking or even caring about scores, you should be reading them and see if you agree or not with their opinion, and also seing if the content looks appealing. Also reading multiple reviews is important because others might have different opinions, than the one reviewer. Anyone who only reads 1 review from one website is being an idiot. Just my opinions on reviews...

I've never really seen whats wrong with ign, I don't base all my purchases off of them, but I usually read/watch their reviews before buying a game (among MANY other websites). And I must say the vast majority of the time I find myself agreeing with them. Even if they are being payed off, I don't base my purchase on one review, or on score, and honestly I haven't once noticed ign "blatantly" giving fake reviews. Heck if anything I've seen plenty of tripple a titles, that were terrible (duke nukem forever), get bad reviews from ign. I'm not naive enough to think they don't take bribes etc, but to believe that every review of theirs is terrible is just as ludicrous. Read the review, see if you agree with it, compare it to other reviews you have read, make an informed decision.

    ......... why people suck

Don't read the reviews at all and just look at scores.

Just because one party gave it a high score does not mean another should either, reviews are subjective and instead of looking at scores, READ WHAT THEY THINK IS WRONG WITH THE GAME, AND IF YOU AGREE WITH THEIR CRITICISMS THEN TAKE THAT INTO ACCOUNT BEFORE YOU PURCHASE A GAME RAAGRAGERAGRAGRAGERAGERAGE /endrage.

Just to give an example I absolutely love the dynasty warrior franchise, however they have pretty much universally gotten bad reviews everywhere. This is fine because I love the repetitive gameplay and I don't really care that each game doesn't change the formula to much, because when I buy dynasty war game I know what I'm getting, and I freaking love it. I still however read the reviews to see what someone else thinks, and their criticisms are usually things I don't care about, and then I usually proceed to buy the game and love it. Also read more than just one or two reviews if your going to base your entire purchase on reviews. Read what they have to say and make a decision.

Honestly all they had to do was sencor there video, but they didn't even though they KNEW foul language was not allowed.

"Also neither Mojang nor IGN gave us any guidelines as to what we were and weren't allowed to do"

Wait but Simon and Lewis swear all the time in their videos, pretty much everyone going to see their panel would be there because they like their videos so... :blink.gif:

Yes but this is a live panel being viewed by thousands, many of them children, I don't think anyone can say for sure who's fault it is, either notch/whoever was organizing minecon didn't give any guidelines for a panel, or the yogs didn't follow the guidelines. But like I said earlier minecon seemed pretty disorganized from the stream perspective so I have a feeling its more notch's fault then the yogs (just a guess tho). The yogs sounds pretty pissed from their twitter/forums posts that I've read... Gotta love internet drama <3.

Jeeze I leave for two hours and this **** decides to explode while im gone /sadface. Still a fan of both parties, hopefully they can resolve this amicably :sad.gif:. It did seem from the perspective of the livestream, that minecon looked pretty disorganized (and from hannah's post sorta proves it was). To me it seems like this is more notch's fault than it is the yogs, because the yogs are obviously known for their pretty language :tongue.gif:, but dropping f bombs during a live panel being watched by thousands, isn't exactly the smartest thing to do either.

LOL, one person said "99%" of us like Yogscast and this "1million+" do. Since there are around 16 million registered users and over 4 million paying users 1/16th or 1/4th = 99% makes me LOL. To be honest, those numbers are from two people so I cant really say that. The one metric I can point and compare to those two numbers is that they have only 17,977 subscribers (at the time of this post) 17,977 is not equal to 99% of 16 million or 4 million and 17,977 is not equal to "1million+"

So yeah they do have 1million+ Also this is just subscribers, I myself do not have a youtube account and just watch their vids (like many others I'm sure).

    Quote from benggal

I seriously, seriously doubt that that is what Notch is referring to, especially given the subject matter he covered with them during their interview.

Why do people keep bringing up the interview, the interview was put up to youtube where parents can control what their kids watch. The panel was done in front of a live audience with children in the audience, not to mention the livestream. This was supposed to be a child friendly con (I believe minecraftchick said something along those lines during the opening ceremonies). Some people are insane when it comes to their children, and I'm sure notch got a shitstorm because of that intro video. I will agree tho that there is no conclusive evidence yet.

The minecraft community these kids are a part of is an internet-based community. Of course there will be cursing. So, kids/parents should know that there would be cursing before even going. Notch should get over it.

Stop the hate on notch, I doubt he actually truly believes what he tweeted (I mean did anyone see what he said during the yogcast video lol). I think it's more that he had lots of parents complain and go apeshit and this is more PR then anything. My guess is the yogcast panel, intro vid, but there really isn't much to go off of.

We all know how crazy some parents are in NA, especially when it comes to censoring/protecting their children, that tweet is just PR imo.

Considering how stupid Yogscast is to begin with, I don't see why so many people flock to it. It's a guy talking about Minecraft, wooopdidoo!

It's actually 2 guys and some extra's doing commentary about many games (not just minecraft). Also if you don't like them, thats fine, 1million+ people do.

Notch has a point. Cussing in front of children is bad. D:

PROTECT THE CHILDREN, OH GOD THE HUMANITY. I knew plenty of swear words by grade 2-3, as I'm sure most people do. It's impossible to protect your children from these words (nor should you). As long as you teach your children to respect others, these words are fine.

Seriously tho there is no conclusive evidence proving this tweet is directed at yogcast, but since we have so little to go on (common notch!), they are the most likely suspect.

posted a message on What version do you think suits Minecraft for the final release?
I would said 1.7 or 1.8 I forget when the new generation came in (The one with rivers ravines **** like that, if it was in 1.8 than I would've picked 1.8 without all the rpg elements, and save those for a future major update when the ideas are more fleshed out.

posted a message on The Death of Minecraft
INC wall of text, also english isn't my first language so sorry in advance :biggrin.gif:.

Look When you "beat" minecraft, all it does is respawn you with all your items etc and you can keep playing. It isn't really an end at all, just a boss with a credit screen. Not only that but its completely optional, you don't gain anything by doing it, other than a credit screen. Complaining about something just because its there, that is completely optional, is retarded.

One thing I thing you can complain about is the quality of said content. IMO this and the other "rpg" elements (enchanting potions, even the dungeons etc) all feel tacked on to me. Nothing feels fleshed out and ready for release, nor does it feel like it fits (No I'm not saying rpg elements don't fit into minecraft, but the ones mojang added don't imo. A lot of it feels like unfinished random bits of content sowed together and for a game that's in beta I think that's fine. But for a full release all the rpg elements seem really awful. In a way the game just doesn't feel ready for a full release and still feels like a beta to me.

One game I think you can compare minecraft to, on the rpg side of things is Terraria. Terraria's rpg elements feel fleshed out, and the progression feels right. You always have more gear to upgrade, and different places to go to get the different materials, the mobs get progressively harder as go to those new places, different bosses to fight etc. The progression system in that game is amazing. Everything on the RPG side of things fits in and feels complete. I can't say the same for minecraft :sad.gif:.

I see a lot of people (fanboys) telling other people to just ignore these if you don't like them. I'll ignore them when I play, but if I'm reviewing the game objectively I'm not going to ignore these things (and neither should you). These features are not ready for a full release of the game, and this isn't beta anymore where you can just tack features on and slowly develop them, this is supposed to be a finished game (why release a game where an entire theme is very unpolished?). IMO these features should've either been held back and polished more, or the game should've stayed in beta.

But with all that said, the sandbox elements of the game are still absolutely unique and amazing, the world generation is like night/day when compared to minecraft 1-2 years ago, so many cool seeds/worlds. I will still be playing minecraft, and hopefully in future updates Mojang can flesh out the rpg side of minecraft even more :biggrin.gif:.
