    Well, you log into the forums using your second life account. But second life is free to sign up for and use. I've actually earned money from the game, though I've never put a penny into it. But for your interests, that won't really matter since it's more for study purposes. xD

    Basically, it's free, and signing up for SL lets you post on their forums. Just a word of warning, not everyone there is as pleasant as you'd hope them to be. Try not to let it get to you haha.

    Thanks I'll keep that in mind :)

    Well, when I was doing the survey, I asked my mom if she wanted to play CoD with me. What do you think was the reaction? And, I asked my dad if he wanted to play on an MC server with me. Guess what happened. Oh, and by the by, I think it's slightly yet not completely racist/prejiduce (sorry if I spelled wrong) to not allow 99% of the world (sorry if not precisely accurate) in on this. Foreign places such as Asia or India make sense, but Australia, Canada, England, maybe Mexico even, and California is mean. (XD seriously, CA has the 2nd least population of Americans in the U.S.A, or at least I'm pretty sure.)

    Well first I never said people from California couldn't take the survey. To answer your question about international participants, the research I am doing has to be based on theory and literature. These theories and literature are almost exclusively based on US populations. Currently the field is relatively small and we have not expanded out to other countries yet. There have been some studies in Korea and the UK but those theories tend to behave differently in different cultures. So, in order to get a better understanding of how everything works we have to focus on what we know, which is US populations, before we can expand to other countries.

    Why do you need our ZIP code? o.o

    The zipcode is just for location purposes. I just want to know if you live in a city or live in the suburbs really and what part of the country you are in. I don't collect any personal information with the survey itself so it's not like I can track you down, although there is a raffle at the end it is not connected to the survey so you can't link those e-mail addresses to your survey answers. I figured a zipcode would be a pretty ambiguous question and would give me some valuable information on where people are located.

    I'm english so I'm out. But I can tell you how they act towards each other - they hate each other.

    Make it international and I'll do it

    I'd love to do an international study like this.
    Quote from CyrusOfSky

    Well I'm Canadian so I can't do the survey, but if you want to do a little field research, I'd suggest signing up for Second Life. Just to take a look. I'm a pretty active content creator on there. For the past two years or so, it's been a mixed teen/adult community, the minimum age being 16, though it's predominantly an adult online world. If you dig deep enough, you can find the adolescents in the game. It's not the prime example, but it's the only one I can think of off the top of my head that has the most interesting teen/adult dynamic, or lack thereof.

    Hmmm I'll definitely look into that. Do you need to be subscribed to second life to post on the forums?

    Minecraft players I need your help!

    I am conducting an online survey looking at how adolescents and young adults interact with each other in online settings and through video games. I am recruiting participants to help identify how adolescents and young adult’s experiences in online and real world settings affect their day to day experiences in life activities (school, work, family, and community life).

    I need people willing to take my survey who are between 13 and 21 years of age and are a U.S. resident (sorry my international peeps) it should take around 15-20 minutes to complete.

    If you are interested in taking the survey go here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/OGRS

    So, take the survey and tell me what you think!

    Thanks!

    Quote from CSieg

    The oceans would actually be pretty awesome if we had a decent boat. If I had a nice big ship with a bed and chest to act as a mobile base, I would be off exploring the world and establishing outposts.

    Instead, I always stay near my initial spawn because traveling by foot is slow and dangerous.

    Being able to build a boat would be awesome. Maybe something where you could build the modules like the cabin and sails and kitchen and smith then put them together in a extra large crafting table. Something that you would have to build only on a dock with at least 10x10x3 blocks of water in front of it. Then you place each of these modules in the correct configuration and a boat appears, similar to how boats appear when you place them on the water. Sail boats would travel at a pretty constant speed, faster than regular boats, and you could steer them when sitting in the chair in the wheelhouse. When no one is in the chair the sailboat would coast to a stop like regular boats do when you get up. You could have a single chest on the boat for storing goods, but you couldn't add anything to the boat, just like a regular boat. Of course people could make boat mods where you could make different boats from different modules.

    If the boat is destroyed it breaks into a bunch of cobble, wood, sticks, and iron and all your chest items fly out. Hopefully you are in shallow water when that happens though. I would give the boats about 200 hearts of health. Lily's would destroy them instantly of course.

    I traveled 23k blocks on an ocean the other day. As they stand, they're not only completely useless to gameplay, but detrimental to healthy servers. Put something in there to make oceans worthwhile, and shrink them to 1/3 their current size then MAYBE.

    If you are building a server I'd suggest finding a seed with less ocean. Making a server and just rolling a random seed will usually get you with a crappy spawn. Take the time and explore the land before you make it public.

    You could also just build a moat that you jump over to get into your house. That's how I do it.

    posted a message on LEGO Minecraft
    The only problem is a 2x2x2 lego piece will have to fit into another lego on the 1x2 so you can stack them and make a strong wall. Otherwise you'd just have a ton of 2x2 pillars and they won't build anything. So Lego would have to either make a set that had an additional connector on the sides of all pieces, which would look ugly IMO or people would have to connect pieces in a staggered layer. Here I'll provide an example below:

    A. LEGO SET Stable
    ||-||-||-||-||-||
    -||-||-||-||-||-||
    ||-||-||-||-||-||
    -||-||-||-||-||-||

    B. LEGO SET Unstable
    ||-||-||-||-||-||
    ||-||-||-||-||-||
    ||-||-||-||-||-||
    ||-||-||-||-||-||

    "||" = Lego Block 2x2x2
    "-" = Space (for some reason it was showing up weird when I made it)

    As you can see set A is stable but set B is more minecraft like. Unfortunately with a 2x2x2 set you could also never have even right angle corner if you built a stable house like in set A, you would have only jagged corners.

    I think a better idea would be to use plastic cubes with small magnets on the edges so they would stick together. This would give you a more authentic Minecraft experience.

    Oh here they already make these kind of cubes:
    http://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Color-Cubes-Colorful-Wooden/dp/B001H172RA

    All you would have to do is paint them to look like minecraft blocks and you would be in business. Of course custom cubes for doors and stairs and stuff would still need to be made.

    Hmm now that I'm really looking there are a lot of sites that sell just wood blocks for pretty cheap. I wonder how hard it would be to get a magnet inside them or better yet what if you painted them with magnetic paint let them dry and then put another base coat of acrylic and then painted them like minecraft blocks. **** I think I just found my new weekend project.

    Turns out magnetic paint is really just iron dust mixed in with paint to create a surface for the magnets to adhere to. To get wood blocks to adhere to each other you would need magnets within the blocks. Which they do make but are costly, and I want a ton of these things so looks like I'll have to find a way to build them myself.

    Quote from Boeing747guy

    Ok so I came into this ravine, there was 2 creepers, I killed one, the other freaking creeper killed me! Now I really need my drops recovered by something or else there get burnt by lava (the freaking creeper blew up in water and killed me)
    Now I'm so freaking mad because I had diamonds, iron, steak, plenty of wood, shears, and other good stuff, now there about to go down the drain! :angry.gif:

    How could your stuff get burnt by lava if the creeper blew up in water?

    There are mods you can use to recover your items. Otherwise it is just part of the game get used to it.

    They should have a slingshot that you can load resources into. Resources that hit a mob, just like arrows, can't be retrieved. Also, you could only shoot blocks like cobble or dirt or sandstone or obsidian. No shooting furnaces and things. Obsidian would cause the most damage, sandstone and cobble medium damage and dirt the least damage. Clay bricks would cause more damage than cobble but less than obsidian.
