Perhaps - just feel some people abuse this by having one windmill to power their entire base sometimes :P But, yeh I can see how that would be something difficult to add.

It's not out of difficulty, given FC is a quite experienced coder and designer, so much as it's a rather poor fit for the game. "Realism" aside, which is always used as a justification for a desired feature without admitting the true desires behind it, it adds nothing of value to the game. Hooking up a new power source to each and every mechanical device is prohibitively expensive, and takes up a set amount of space. Meanwhile, by allowing objects to draw mechanical power from only a single source, what becomes important is the way to reach that source. If you've ever tried managing large amounts of gearboxes and axles in an enclosed space... it can be a challenge in its own right. It also allows for the possibility of setting up power lines to other nearby locations, and weighing the cost of building those lines vs. creating a whole new power source.

Just wanted to drop by and lend my support from here as well FC. Although I'll miss looking forwards to each new update, I'll certainly be looking forwards to seeing where you go with RtH as well. Your love for the mod shows in every detail of the mechanics you bring to the game, and it's better for everyone to have you working on what you love rather than continuing the prolonged agony of the past months about what do to with BTW. You may be moving on to greener pastures, but you won't be alone when you get there.

I dunno. I personally prefer to be wearing a full set of soulforged steel armor, but yeah, I guess you could do it in diamond in a pinch.

Huh, I thought the steel interfered with the transference method, but I do remember you saying something about intending to fix it.

I....... don't know what to believe........

You need to be wearing all diamond equipment though, otherwise you won't be able to withstand the awesomeness of the realm. I recommend bringing a stack or two of emeralds along too as gifts for The Great Ones.

I do believe the discussion has come up in the past, with the decision being to leave it in, but as another unsupported game mode. Most anything really unique to BTW or that could be spoiled is disabled in creative.

wait, you mean beating the mob meant to be the final boss of minecraft is easier then beating a mob meant to be a side-boss?

As I recall, in JRPGs it's very common to have a "side boss" that's optional, yet far more powerful than the story boss. Usually accessible either after the main boss, or just a little before, and requires a bit of a challenge in order to even reach. Classic examples are the Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald Weapons from FF7 and the Infinite Dungeon from FFX-2. I always thought of The Wither as a similar creation considering its ability to smash through any blocks (besides soul-forged steel) between you and it.

I think it's unlikely most people would be able to survive conquering the Wither without steel tools or armor, I don't know if I could at least.

If you can, you pretty much deserve the endstone anyway.

dam is it that hard to learn Java? i really want ot make a mod i want those windmill blocks that rotates other blocks adjacent, i cant use this one cause its a "total conv incompatible..." and i got 4 Mods atm, dont wanna lose them :(

is this mod compatible with 1.7.2?

After a while, I'm sure you'll learn mods are more about quality than quantity. As for compatibility, the thread rather specifically states 1.5.2, nothing added since then was really worth using anyway. BTW is about surviving in a world that wants you dead, and fighting to conquer your surroundings. Using the windmills with almost any other mod would mean they were decorative only, instead of serving their intended function as a pre-nether mechanical power source.

The proceeded to create a new large biome world that started me in the middle of a HUGE ocean on a small island with no trees.

Well, default is the recommended mode of play, as it's what FC designed around.

So why can't we have a age or two that makes us use things that are worse then what we have now, but in the long run, helps us go to a higher age?

Mainly because, if something is worse than what we already have, it's not going to get used, except in case of emergency. In order for any proper progression like you describe to take place, you'd have to reward the use of the item, as opposed to simply using it as a crafting material for higher level stuff. Otherwise, it may as well be a non-wearable item.

For example, consider if you could gain 1/6th a pip armor by putting a piece of leather on an armor slot, and it would act like armor. Would anyone use that for armor? or would they just save the leather for a real suit of leather armor? Progression is always positive because it provides incentive to actually use the item, as opposed to leaving it in deep storage for an age, or not bothering to manufacture it until its advanced form is available.

Going up in the tech tree, or "progression" is exactly what is intended with BTW.

If you choose to stay in the stone age, that is fine with me.

I believe what he means is, keeping old material relevant by providing purpose for it as the game goes on, instead of merely becoming obsolete and useless. Think of Vanilla's wooden pickaxe, nobody uses it for more than 3 swings before relegating it to abandonment, the chest of remembrance, or burning it. Afterwards, you never touch it again. Meanwhile, in BTW un-stoked cauldrons are still just as relevant as stoked later on in the game.

As I recall, when asked about the subject previously, FC commented that stone axes were always more damaging than pickaxes and shovels, but nobody ever noticed before because of the sword. The only thing I think he actually buffed damage on was the wooden shovel, since it's the only wooden tool left, and it could be interpreted as a thick walking stick.

As for melons, they are a key ingredient in Glistering Melons, which were used for making health potions. Melons also drop quite a bit of Pieces, and are farmable at the same level as pumpkins, so it makes a good deal of sense to lower the food value of each individual one. As for the "realism" [dirty word] argument, real melon isn't filling even in the slightest.

    So, funny story for everyone.

After my latest respawn into a desert, I saw a temple nearby and went to go check it out. After heading into the inner chamber to gather the loot and a chest, I climbed back out and ran over to the closest source of wood nearby to punch trees. Once I saw the sun starting to set though, without enough wood for even a single pick, I thought I'd set up a chest in a noticeable location on the temple and suicide after depositing my loot. Since my hunger was only around the midpoint, and no water was nearby, I decided to go for dramatic effect and jumped from the top of the pyramid to the bottom of the loot chamber below in what resulted in the most horrible experience I've ever decided to do. Since I was at full health before the drop, I landed at the very bottom, with half a heart left, trapped in the bottom of an endless abyss without the strength to climb out or even break blocks. As my hunger was too low for health to regenerate, all I could do was lay there, weak, helpless, blind, and bleeding as I waited for myself to finally starve to death. For hours or days, I cannot even tell, I prayed some undead monstrosity would fall into the pit and finish me off, occasionally crawling uselessly around in a feeble attempt to burn more energy. When at last I saw the world swimming before my eyes I sighed with relief, finally able to pass on to the next life instead of enduring this never ending hell I had created for myself.

this make me wonder if RTH is going to be much harder than this, the possiblitys.

The last I knew about actual development on that, FC was mulling over "what it means to be a block", and considering various material strengths. The thing you can count on, though, is it'll be what BTW could have been, if it weren't bound by the same restrictions as minecraft is.

I just spent the past week out a comp, and booted up an old legacy copy of BTW I had on my comp without an internet connection from just before the Hardcore Rampage updates.

I can honestly say, it feels like an entirely different game, and not necessarily in a good way. I was defeating enemies that used to give me trouble with ease, expecting items that never showed, and I had so much food and armor it was ridiculous. Truly the year of development since then has only improved the game, and, well... once you've played BTW with all its lovely hardcore updates, there's no going back.
