I think the problem is that too many people shorten game names using initials and it's not obvious to everyone what game you're talking about. Try saying "Kerbal Space Program" instead of "KSP" and see how people answer then...
Yeah, I was disappointed with emeralds too. If Mojang wanted a "currency item" they could've easily used gold which needed more uses at the time. the only real thing achieved by adding emeralds was people now asking for emerald tools and weapons despite Mojang saying they would never be used for that...
I guess it makes sense. It's just that to me it seems lapis was such an arbitrary choice... Is lapis reputed to have mythical powers in the real world? Perhaps that would make more sense then.
I don't think we should be allowed to use absolutely everything in my suggestion. A block of dirt would definitely not work, and a feather would probably affect the chances by about a few percent at most...
So as you all know, in 1.8 lapis will play a greater role in the enchantment system. Not that there's anything wrong with this, but it seems a bit... random... Yes, I am aware that lapis needed a better use in game, but so does a multiple other items. So I was thinking, instead of just using lapis for enchants, how about we use, well, pretty much anything...
The magic system would remain largely the same; you'd still get a small hint of what enchant you might ended up getting. But depending on what material you used to enchant your stuff, you might increase your chances of getting certain enchantments.
For example, a fish could increase your chance of getting Respiraton. Gold could increase your chances of getting Looting or Fortune. A feather could increase your chance of getting Feather Fall. Diamonds or emerald could increase your chance of getting Silk Touch. Etc...
Yeah, the new stuff look really cool. I'm not too sure about using lapis for enchanting. I'm not really against it, it's just that it seems so random... Okay, so they gave more uses for lapis, there's still plenty of stuff that needs more uses... I think the enchantment should have probably worked more like you can use pretty much any resource to get enchantments, and depending on what you put in, it might affect your chances of getting a particular enchantment. Put in a gold ingot, increase your chances of getting Fortune or Looting. Put in a diamond, increase your chance of getting Infinity or Silk Touch (you know, the really good and really rare ones). Etc. This would've also been a good opportunity to include more enchantments.
You know, ever since baby zombies were introduced, I expected them to fit through 1 x 1 holes... after all, other small mobs like chickens and cave spiders could already do it, so I had no reason to think baby zombies would be any different. So I build everything with that in mind.
Of course, it ended up not being the case, but it was also a bug and was going to be fixed in 1.7. So I did not touched my already baby zombie-proofed mob traps...
The moral of the story is, if it looks like a small mob that can fit in a 1 x 1 hole but can't for some reason, it's a bug and it's going to get fixed in the next update, so build accordingly...

Also, you don't get smoke particles that way.
