The one thing I STILL haven't crafted is a Fire Charge, Dyes are for the more creative personalities, for dying wools, and Cauldrons I use for hiding torches because they are transparent:P
The timeout exception occurs when your internet connection resets, or you lose connection to the server or internet. It happens to everyone every once in a while, however I don't have a problem joining a server on my mac, unless the server itself is down.
As far as I know Minecraft is run through a java script. The lag spikes can be caused by a very tight loop of scripts, this may be worked loose in the future updates, but as for now, there is little I can do to help you. I am running fine on my little laptop though, so your computer makes no difference.

Bug name: No Sound at all
Details:
There is absolutely no sound at all from Minecraft even if sound is on.
All other applications play sound, but nothing from Minecraft.
There are sound files in the .Minecraft resource folders but they do not play. No environment, footsteps, animals, anything. I have tried setting the sound bar to 100%, down to off and up to 100% again with no difference on several restarts of Minecraft. In 1.9 I had to F3+S to reload sound because of the same problem, but now that is not possible.
System: 32 bit Windows 7
A friend of mine had the same problem, and it was solved when they reinstalled minecraft, It might work for you too, and I don't mean a force Update

Other: Has a Lighting bug been reported? the blocks lights don't update until another is broke in some places.
Your words they amaze me, I didn't know how to describe this and Love the idea, It would fix the oddities like snow in a desert, but weather should be affected too don't you think?

Perhaps it could be by chunk? And only specific blocks have the heat value, like tools with enchantments?
