posted a message on my son is a noob so whats a forge?
    Quote from masrepus

ok thanks for the info. so it seems that its a file(mod) that holds info that other files (mods) need so they grab it from the forge file.
i understand it although my explanation might not be that good. so in order to install any of the mods from the list for 1.4.7 mods
(found here http://modlist.mcf.l...1.4.6_1.4.7.php) i need a forge? ok so where do i find this forge mod? and if i install it will it mess up other mods that dont require a forge? i dont think it will since its only accessed when a mod requires it correct.

    thanks bob

It shouldn't cause problems with mods created that don't use forge. There is always a slight chance mods conflict and unless the developer fixes it then your left to choose between which one you want more. On the right side of that page you linked it says if the mod requires forge, is compatible, or isn't compatible. Most mod developers on this forum will say if it does or does not need forge. You can get forge from www.minecraftforge.net

in other words what is a "FORGE"

    thanks bob

    Hey Bob!

Forge is basically a collection of stuff (API Coding) that allows people who do mods to do them easier. So instead of having to code everything from scratch it can pull information from Forge to work this making a lot of mods require forge in order to run. Forge itself is essentially a mod but the things it does natively aren't major game changers as their main goal is the API for the modders. This is at least my understanding.

I can sympathize with your pain as someone who is surrounded by kids most of the time they expect I can magically make all things work.

Key things to remember when deciding to mod
    • Make sure the version of the game you have is the exact version that the mod works for.
    • Typically I read through the first post explaining the mod then focus on the last posts as it can be a good sign if there are major issues happening.
    • Always backup your files
You can try searching through our posts (which can be daunting) a tip I use is to use google and put for example site:minecraftforum.net helicopter mod which will then pull up topics from our site that are related to helicopter mod. One I see that looks updated is this one that one in particular will require modloader instead of MagicLauncher.

As Cambian mentioned you can try something like the magic launcher as it can make the process easier and safer as you aren't directly messing with the files themselves. Modding is typically (in my experience) it either works or it doesn't unfortunately and if any other mods are used together it can become even more complicated. Your son and you can make it a project together and we are always here to help.

If you need help modding (modifying the game) you can always post in our Modded Client Support Section for help on how to post there and get the info you need then check this post. If all else fails and you get stuck just ask for help and try to include as much information as possible and we will try to help you any way we can.

Best of Luck! I hope I didn't throw too much at you. Any questions feel free to reply and ask. Use the quote option (below) and it will help me to see that you've replied and need my attention.

Because A) it is very bad practice to kill the whole process the way he does (in 6.15 there wasn't even a log message) and B) frankly speaking, it should not be his business to verify other mods and to decide whether minecraft should run or not. He may deactivate RP related parts of HIS mod, but not stop the whole game.

With the way mods are designed they have the right to do so. If the developer of the mod requires certain mods for it to run or knows certain mods do not work with the mod a check can prevent from having to deal with incompatibility issues. If you do not like the way that the mod works then your best option would be to not use it.

I know. Honestly, I finally understood the difference between mini-modding and being annoying just a while ago. That confused me for a long time as I gathered infractions for improper mini-modding (and once for properly mini-modding, but that was resolved and modified).

Yeah some can be a bit confusing. Typically my rule of thumb before becoming a mod was if it broke a rule to just hit the report button and let the mods do their jobs.

If someone necro bumps, and it is removed, does it stay at the front page?

If an old topic gets posted to and we need to remove the post we typically lock or hide the thread to prevent others from repeating it.
-edit- adjusted based of the info below me :)

I seem to have gotten every single possible infraction. And yet every one only once. It's rather annoying.

    *gets infractiion*

    *doh, never doing that again*

    *gets another one*

    *doh, never doing that again*

    Ad infinitum.

On the bright side you learn the first time! :) Best advice would be to read over the rules and any questions you have about them then ask here. I can honestly say the entire team would rather clarify rules or an action (if your unsure) rather than having to informal/infract someone. It also helps us to know which rules may need to be reworded or clarified due to confusion.

I have a questions I want to discuss in this topic.

If I find a topic that is very popular in the form but nobody didn't discuss about it for at least 30 days or more, can I reply to that old post as long you are continue to discuss that topic in the form?

30 days isn't really that much of an issue. The biggest issue with a topic and "Necro Posting" is when the topic becomes extremely old. Then people post just to say "Yeah." Typically if the topic isn't active anymore and extremely old the best you can do is create a new topic and if you care to refer to the old topic. If the topic is only 30 days old though and you have something to add to it then by all means post to it.

Rule for reference: Please do not reply to extremely old threads unless you are continuing substantial discussion of the topic. Contentless bumps which add very little to the discussion will be removed

What I might suggest is checking the tutorials in this section as they may help you get better. You could also try posting in game screen shots of your texture and people may give you some tips on how to improve. For a large comprehensive list of guides check this out http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1659899-

I'm sorry it's been forever since an update. I worked on my crafting bench some. I am really not sure what I think about it. I was going for a unique feel that made you want to put your hand in it.

Been playing around with ctm a wee bit. Think it works?

I really love that stone it actually looks worn naturally which is exactly what you want in a cave.

    Quote from BonreoCat

Here are two screenshots of my command block with CTM, any ideas/suggestions or is it okay as it is?

The only thought I have on the command block may just be personal preference but it doesn't feel to me like it has a function like it would do commands. Maybe add like a screen or some type of item that makes it feel like it would do an auto function as command blocks do.

    Hey guys, quick question:

Am I allowed to make a new thread for Nemo 128x?

I really don't like having it on the same thread like this:
    http://www.minecraft...c-16x-and-128x/
    -snip-

You can always make a new thread as long as your not re-posting the same information over and over no one is going to stop you. Just remember that your current thread already has viewers so you may not get the attention you want with a new one. I might suggest if the textures are the same theme and look to instead make use of the spoilers and just clean up the thread so you can section it off for yourself. Check a lot of the threads from people here for examples.

I just discovered something odd... That may have already been noticed.
    -snip-
Any idea what that would be? It seems like I may be able to add shaders support to the hand.

Your guess sounds as good as any. It may have just been to add a small shade when an item is your hand. Like glass which you can see through.

I'm going to work on my 16x16 mobs.

I got the creeper... But what does everyone think of him? Right direction? Or is there something I should change?

I think it is the right direction for the creeper. I personally am a fan of darker creepers but that is just because I want them to look mean. Blowing you up isn't what nice things do in my opinion =)

    ***whew caught up!***

I worked on the side of my crafting table. I was trying to give it the appearance of you could reach inside and grab things. (it's the top row) Thoughts on this? Does it give it a unique feel or just make it look cheesy?
