posted a message on Google Search Suggestions
    Quote from CraftDaddy

The google suggestions have bumped legitimate companies using the name "redstone," to that less than a Game's pleasures.

Uhh, minecraft is hotter than whoever company is using the name redstone. Ask a million people what redstone is, and the few 100s that even will recognize the word will most likely know the term due to minecraft.

Google is matching people with what they are searching for and I doubt many people are looking for the companies that use redstone as their trademark.

That said, if someone owns the trademark redstone, then go sue mojang. They have like $30+ million sitting, waiting to get sued. lol.

Back to ugly. It's ridiculous that you think google is wrong for doing this. If you work for a company that deals with "redstone" and are not familiar with the game, then I suggest that you play the game to see what all the hype is about or stop bitching that someone beat them in making redstone something popular to search on google because obviously that company isn't the one that did it.

aren't ferns 3 times bigger and 3 times fewer? :B I think it needs a little work as far as textures go, it looks too much like a pine sapling

Haha, it does look like pine saplings. It doesn't even look like a real fern. They should at least take up a 3x3 area, or when they are small 1x1, they should look like palm trees or something.

They should make red ferns too. I love it when game put little easter eggs / inside jokes into games.

posted a message on Please explain why classic boosters were taken away.
Well that was the only update that he said "(sorry!)" to. He knew that people already made these huge minecart designs that revolve around the old boosters. They were removed because it was a bug, and it made minecarts a bit too easy to shuttle around. To compromise, along with the bug removal, he made the track boosters stronger. I haven't gotten around to test it yet, but this is just how it's going to be.

To be honest, I think this is still good.

    Explanation:
It was a bug and not the intended way that minecarts were designed. I mean, powered minecarts were slow for a reason. Also, I think that the old boosters can move so fast that it'll cause game crashes since it'll keep speeding up, which is bad for SMP.

I do feel your pain, but it was too "powerful" and had to be nerfed. Hope you can move on from this.

posted a message on Server not sending chunks correctly with nether enabled
    Quote from maxb1987

I am having a similar problem, but with my server the issue happens with or without nether on and only in multiplayer, single works fine. I am updated 1.6.4 with a server downloaded maybe an hour ago, and updated java about the same time. anyone who tries to log in on my server has the same problem. Also sometimes it will load a 20x20 area and thats it, the game refuses to draw as I walk...if i can get it to load a small area around me otherwise i just see the same image as above...

Well, I'm sure Notch and co are hearing these complaints. Just wait. They just released Nether to SMP so there are definitely going to be bugs. I mean, 1.6 was kind of overzealous. It's apparent by how many new bug fix updates they made after the original 1.6 release. Luckily for them they have a huge beta base to test the bugs.

    Quote from Jowns

So... yesterday sky high in the 300,400s even though i know the highest my monitor can display is 60, today... 30...60...back to 30... 120... 10 seconds later back to 60... 20... 180... and so on, this is with lbphoto realism 256x and even with the default textures x_x...
If i gota go along and post my computer specs now they are...

    Intel (R) I7CPU 870 @ 2.93GHZ 2.93GHZ
    8.00Gb Ram
    64 Bit Operating System
    Windows 7 Home...
Ati Hd 5750 w/ 1GB dedicated Video memory. Which BTW tells me its only using 22% of its memory when i'm jumping to 60 fps, 30, 120, 200, etc...
    !!! Fix!!!

It's basically your texture pack that's causing lag; After all, it's a 256 instead of default 16, which you basically squared. These are the only things I can suggest:

    1) update Java to beta 7. Thread here : http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/222572-new-way-to-increase-minecraft-performance/

    2) Upgrade your card to a 5830 (It's twice the power of your card for $100). You can probably sell your card for like $30-40ish on ebay/craigslist.

    3) Downgrade your texture pack. Question.. Is the game more enjoyable in 256 texture? I played 64, and I feel like it makes me realized even more that these are just blocks rather than terrain. The crispness makes the blocks more obvious, and it looks like Myst, Far Cry (good game, but graphics were bleh), or other bad 3d game attempts.

Other than that, you're gonna have to deal with the hiccups.

Why do you have 8 gigs of ram? I'd sell them too to downgrade to 4gigs. I have yet to see a game that even gets passed 3 gigs memory. You're using 22% of memory because your need like 2 gigs max for minecraft lol.

posted a message on system requirements
You only need 2GB of ram.
Onboard video is playable if you have a dual core 2.5GHz+

I would say you need a video card that is 512MB of GDDR3 with dual core 3GHz and 2GB ram to get around 100fps.

    Quote from ashentross

i can't seem to find the official system requirements posted anywhere (shouldn't this be on the buy page?).

if my system can run the free version, can it run the beta as well?

    my system is:
    2.2 ghz cpu
    1.5 g memory
    directx 9.0c
nvidia fx 5200 w/128 mb and opnegl 2.1

You'll get like 15FPS and choppiness on far distance/fancy/smooth lighting, but on normal distance/fast graphics/smooth off, you'll get around 30-40fps which is playable.

posted a message on Mincraft save gone
Here's how you can get it back:

    Method #1
    Warnings:
    1) You won't have any of the items in your inventory.
    2) You won't spawn at your original spawn.

    Good news:
    1) You'll still spawn somewhere near your original spawn. You might have to travel around and find it though.
    2) All your items in your inventory, and all the structure you built will be intact.

    How to do this:
    1) Create a new world.
    2) Exit the game. I would suggest that you climb a tree before doing so.
    3) Exit Minecraft.
    4) Locate your saves folder.
    5) Copy you level.dat file from your new world and overwrite it into your lost world.
You might want to backup your level.dat file, but it's not really necessary because it's corrupted anyways.
    6) Open Minecraft.
    7) Cheer for joy that your new world is back!
    8) Rename the game to whatever it was before since it will have the name that you used for the new world.
(You might spawn in the ground because of your xyz coordinates in your new world which is why I suggested climbing a tree)
    9) Come back on here and say "Thank you Justain!"

    Note:
Minecraft will inaccurately display the filesize of your world, but it doesn't really matter.

    Method #2
The EASY way if you remember your world's seed name:

    (Same warnings as method 1)

    1) Create a new world with the same seed.
    2) You'll probably spawn somewhere else, so go look for your base.
    3) Come back on here and say "Thank you Justain!"
    4) Send me $1 on paypal. Just kidding.

    Quote from Jpmerida

WOW! IM SO very HAPPY Right now! (No, really its not working)
    it only give me +1 fps (Thats right 1fps + 6fps = 7fps)

    Any solutions?

Take your index finger and middle finger and make a peace sign.

Then put those two fingers on your G and L keys on your keyboard.

    GL is for OpenGL
and GL is for Good luck.

    Because.. You're gonna need it.

Now.. Get those two fingers, take it off the G and L keys. Put them on your desk and keep your fingers ready.

    Ready?

Now move your index finger forward. Step 1. Now move your middle finger forward. Step 2!

Keep stepping until you run a mile with your fingers.

Time how long it takes to run that mile.

Divide the number of minutes it takes by 300. You need the actual 1 mile data, so go outside, and do this on the sidewalk.

This is how fast your netbook is going to run Minecraft.

    It's your "PC."

posted a message on Grass in future update, as shown by notch
    Quote from MeatBite22

I agree.. I hope this can be toggled.

Let me see what Notch does when SNOW falls on WILD GRASS. What's that gonna look like? He's supposed to be beta fixing and now he's flirting with modders. I like Aether, I like wild grass, etc. Hell, I want new mobs, I want boss mobs, giant mobs, etc. What the hell is Notch doing? I don't want to hear "thing's I'm working on" and then later see that those things he was working on is no longer worked on. He seriously has no direction and he's acting more like a fanboy of minecraft than the 12 year old requesting pokeballs that transform into Edward.

And yes. He's copying modders. Stop making excuses for Notch/Mojang. Mo creatures is why we have wolves, Aether mod is a nice thing to copy, but can you finish the Nether? Is the Nether finished? Because, fyi, it's almost pointless as it is. Ghasts are too difficult to fight, pigmen are too easy to fight, and I really don't see the point in having the Nether if all it is is a bugged way to teleport/warp. Anyone here been successful in creating a Nether warpgate in single player? He's gonna half finish everything and leave it up to modders to clean up the mess for him.

UGH I hate Notch for this. If he's gonna take credit for Minecraft, then he better take all the criticism too. It pisses me off more that he acts like he's doing a good job and communicating with "the people."

Wild grass? Sorry Gretchen, but I disagree. That's not what the game needs. Just add the mod manually. Realism is kinda cool, but it's just texture to me.

If he wants to make the game longer lasting, he needs to add more tools and things to do in the sandbox rather than try to create new realms or make it prettier.

I have to stop, I'm not even coherent when it comes to talking about why Notch sucks. There are like 500 voices in my head trying explain why he sucks and I cant put those voices into words.

posted a message on HELP. Minecraft crashes
    Quote from khashai

You are running a preview version of Lion?

Honestly, that is probably the longest single crash log I have ever seen... it looks as though it is not agreeing with Apple-installed content, which potentially is related to the OS, and not Java itself, but lets try this:

Could I get you to head over here: http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp and post back what it says? Generally we are looking for 'Java version 6 update 25', however, I wouldn't be surprised if something entirely different shows for you.

I will also note that I do not currently own a Mac, so I don't know how much help I can be here. I have owned them in the past, and if I could afford to do so, I would be using one now... however, I am thinking that someone who is also using the preview of 10.7 might be better to help with this.

That said, I have helped several users of Snow Leopard with Minecraft, and I am willing to at least try here.

Addition: I just glanced through several articles stating that Apple may not be working with Sun on Java implementation for 10.7. However, several other articles state that the download will go through fine. Let me know on that version checker what it says though.

I agree. Go contact Guiness Book of World Records and tell them your story. I thought macs were supposed to be simple as in "sorry sucker, your java crashed: error report 6."

That's just my way of saying "sorry, I cant help"
