As I stated earlier somewhere, I'd rather make it too hard to obtain, than too easy, and then balance it properly later.
You can have it generated in the world (in some deepest dungeons, either inside standard dungeons or maybe its own special), and not craftable. Maybe even non-pickable at all, then you'll have the finer balance control via bowls (hell, maybe even buckets) of healing water.
Well, yeah, some more advanced and sophisticated version, capable, for example, of showing some arbitrary player-made "waypoints" would be absolutely great (there are minimap mods, but they are cheesy). But on the other hand, this current version is simple, yet very usable and generally nice to have (and also coded in a very nice way).
No to all ideas. Blunderbuss is meant to use lots of gunpowder, the amount of "bullets" doesn't really matter much except for the nuisance factor. Handcannon recipe is deliberately ridiculous, to be viable only quite late in game (and with lightstone dust so you HAVE to go to the Nether prior to making it). Gunpowder from the charcoal is a big NO (I consider charcoal as it is to be a huge balance breaker, not to mention making more stuff out of it).
PS: Vrohain, some light-changing stuff is likely to appear some day (don't know in which form yet), but everything else is unlikely. Stuff you shoot usually die, so I don't see any sense in applying modifiers such as "freeze", etc.
Implemented ModLoader's way of addressing textures, so now it won't collide with Shockah's Minerals mod (provided that blockIDs won't collide, but those in Minerals mod are adjustable). However, if you are using this mod with WildGrass mod, you'd want to look at Shockah's thread to get his fix, otherwise grass textures will be all wrong.

Likely, you installed things wrong (or you are doing recipes wrong). This combination of mods does not conflict.
