Hi! I hope this guide will help you somehow, since I've been spending a lot of time making it.

NOTE: I WILL NOT POST ALL MY TACTICS, NOT THE ONES I FIND IT NECESSARY TO KEEP FOR MYSELF.

Starting

First, I generate my level at:

Type: Island
Shape: Long
Size: Normal
Theme: Woods

Remember;
Save frequently.
Watch out for monsters (I am playing peaceful mod this time, to finish this faster).

So, let's get to it! First, you need resources (of course). Now, I am going to cheat the resources to be able to make this guide fast and good. Please don't hate me for it, please don't troll my post. I am doing this to help those who need help.

Now, it is important to settle close to water, farms are requisite. Try to avoid cliffs. Either live on them, or settle far away from them.


The marked places are the ones I find ideal.

Now, when you found a spot to build, it's very important to build a shelter house.
After you built your house, go mine for coal! Coal is essential for a settlement.
You should also store up some sand, to make glass later. Glass is an ideal shelter in farms, since it gives light AND protects from zombies.
This is my starting farm. I will expand it later as I am going to need a larger one later.

The black outlined stuff are needed to make a farm from scratch.
Also, spending time making flint is a waste of time (If you don't think it's fun to burn down forests (Also, it IS quite fun to burn creepers. They turn into a ticking bomb xD)).
Now. A tower is always nice, so let's build one! I would recommend making it close to the shelter house. Also, attach a few torches to it to find your way back home from expeditions at night (If you get lost).

So. I settled on a cliff.
Also, I strongly recommend you building a small tower using as few materials as possible, if you do not wish to build your tower awesome and gorgeous. :wink.gif:

Mining

YOU NEED:
Pickaxe
Wood
Furnace
Crafting Bench
Weapons (If not in peaceful mod)

Now, I am going down the mine! It is smart to either bring a crafting bench or craft a bunch of pickaxes. I prefer the first one. A good tactic of mining is to mine deeper and deeper. Dig like a staircase, as shown in this picture.

Now, IF you are to hit a dark cave, do make sure you bring with you torches. I recommend switching to peaceful mode if you don't already play on it, or simply save the game. Follow the cave downwards until you hit minerals.
Also, if you didn't already make a furnace, make sure you make one now.

Look'a HERE! I found iron!

Now, I would recommend making a temporary base somewhere down here after you found iron. Iron is the most important mineral, as you can't get gold nor diamond without it. It also provides quite good armour.
The first 6 iron you find, should be spent making 2 pickaxes.
Also, wandering about in a gold armour and falling into lava increases your loss of life with about 1000%, after what I have experienced. So when in a deep-going cave, DONT wear a golden armour, you might survive a tour in the lava on peaceful mode.
That's all for mining, I want to focus on the settlement guide. =)

PS: You should keep mining until you think you've got enough materials like iron, diamond, coal etc. to go back to the surface. If you can't find the way back, simply mine a staircase upwards anywhere, and go towards the tower you created earlier. It shouldn't be too hard at night, well... not if you attached torches to it.

Back To Settlement

YOU NEED:
Stone
Wood
Weapons (If not in peaceful mode)

Also, a tip from Mod.X, in game Utilitas, is that when he read my guide he burned away an area for the settlement, then he stopped the fire. He suggests you to chop away a belt of wood where your wall will be, then burn the wood inside, to make it go faster.

Time to make a door! Make the door 1 block wide 2 blocks high, and to prevent monsters from coming in, use dirt - place it in the door at ANY time. Only at times you are moving in or out, you should remove the dirt (xD).
So, what should we make next? A wall? A Mining house?
I think we'll make a wall. Also, if you live on a cliff, a wall is alot faster and alot easier to set up.
Also, I'd recommend removing trees nearby your house for two reasons. One is that you might see monsters better, one is that you get better room for building, and that you don't have to interrupt your building under construction to remove a tree.
Since you were just out mining, I'd guess you've got a lot of stone. That's good.
So, if you live on a cliff, make the wall 2 blocks high at any point AND at the edge of the cliff (To get more room)

Also, I AM going to build it higher later on. With a bridge and everything, so that I can stand there and shoot mobs to their certain death :tongue.gif:
Now, back to the wall. You should spare materials by not building a wall out against the sea. It also gives you the great view! :smile.gif:

Hehe. Now, let's get to the storage room!

Storage Room

YOU NEED:
Building materials like stone, wood and dirt
A chest
Decoration, like gold bars, iron bars, diamond bars. You can decorate with whatever you wish though :biggrin.gif:

Also, decoration is not necessary. It makes the storage room look good, though. =)


If you see the road I've been putting up aswell, this might spare some time if you're really disoriented, and it looks good in my opinion.
Also, the "Torch-Bench" as I call it (marked with a black circle bottom left in picture) helps you lighten up your path! It gives you a lot better light, and if zombies either spawned inside your wall or got over it, you see them easier thanks to the light. :biggrin.gif:

So. The storage room has 4 chests, and the door should be open at any time.

Crafting House

YOU NEED:
Building materials
Crafting Bench
Furnace
Chest (For those who wants their minerals in a chest in storage room, that's a great idea! If you don't, do not mind the chest.)

So, let's get to the crafting house. First, you should find an ideal spot to make it!
Also, bring the crafting bench and furnace with you while searching.

Now you've found one.
Now, make the "frame" of your desired crafting house size. Make a road to it from the other houses, and start making it! Also, put up some "Torch-Benches" along the road.
This door should also be kept open at any time.

Now you're ready!

Mining Shack

YOU NEED:
Torches
Building Materials

If you can't fit the rest of the buildings into the wall, don't delete the wall you're extending first. First, build the wall extention, then you can delete the old part of the wall.

Now, shut down your old mine by covering up the entrance with a 1 block thick wall of anything.
...And find a place to build your mining shack. I recommend it to be without walls, like shown on this picture;

This because - if monsters are to hunt you, you can quickly get away without struggling to find the exit. If monsters are hunting you, hit them back down in the shack and close the opening. Also, I'm gonna make a trap!

Trap

YOU NEED:
Shovel
Stone

This trap will be made out in the wilds. It's just an instruction on how to make a trap, which you can put anywhere in your town.
It's not that efficient with creepers anymore, though, since they started exploding stone, too.
First, dig a 3x3x2 hole. (3 deep, 3 wide and 2 long (Also, this is just an instruction on how to. You can make it whatever size you desire.))
Then, dig a path down to it (It's easier for me to explain with pictures, so here we go);

I see, the image is a bit cut. The "EN H" Is supposed to be "Enter Here". Well, as it said, you go down that staircase when a mob is stuck down there. You can shoot/hit the mob from the hole.

Wall Bridge

YOU NEED:
Wood

Now we're gonna make a "Wall Bridge". A wall bridge basically consists of a wooden path laid at the outer part of the wall, like this;

From the Wall Bridge, you can kill creepers without them exploding. One thing I've experimented with, is alternative ways of killing creepers. If you kill them face-to-face, they are likely to explode with a percentage of 80%.
From top on, the chance of exploding is about 5-10%.

Oil is a liquid, right? Therefore I suggest it to be that way.

To fill a bottle with oil, place it in the same area as the liquid is in.

Also, I think the oil lamp should give better light than the torch, because it's harder to make.

Kaitou is not banned in my server. This because of that I do only ban people depending on their actions in MY server. Though I am aware that they might do the same thing to my server, so that I'm a bit more... careful when it comes to them.

Deps - I use a HP Pavillion dv6000 Gaming Edition. It is about 1 1/2 years old. Also, this is the first time something like this ever happened.
