As already stated, this was the plan from the start, so there's no point arguing it any further. As for this being "the worst thing ever", we hear the same thing every time there's an update. New artist? This is going to kill the game! Survival for free users? We've been betrayed! Hack protection? People will quit! New control scheme? I can't play anymore! TNT doesn't remove stone? What a stupid decision! etc.
I'm not sure if people missed the memo, but this has been planed to be a commercial game from the start. To expect large portions of the game to be free is ridiculous. To find this latest blog entry as surprise means people simply were not paying attention.
I'm seeing two problems here. People who haven't bought the game are whining, and people who have bought the game are seeming to have a grudge against Notch for keeping a lot of features open to the unpayed majority.
First of all, for those of you who haven't bought the game, and are feeling a bit of injustice right now, you should know that it has been the plan from the start to eventually make many things exclusive to those who bought the game. It's not like this was sprung on you, and the fact that you're only complaining now tells me that you expected the people who payed to get nothing more than skins. This is pretty ridiculous.
I've seen people directly insulting Notch, saying that it was a bad idea letting free players test his paid-only features, and maybe they were right. If the free players are just going to throw feces because what was being planned to happen all along is starting to happen, then they didn't deserve to even test it.
Second, for those who have payed, and feel as though these benefits should have come sooner, you should really try to put yourself in Notch's shoes. He has reasons for letting everyone try this stuff. He needs as many testers with as many backgrounds and as many different hardware configurations as possible in order to iron out the majority of bugs. You've been told multiple times that the game won't be free forever, and that many things will be exclusive to payed players. Not only did you get to test survival before anyone else, get your own skin, and pay for half the price that the regular game will be, but you also have access to the developer build of minecraft. Almost as soon as Notch tests a new feature, you can too. It's incredible that Notch even trusts us not to distribute it.
I payed for this game early because I really liked what is was, and where it was going. It was and still is a great deal, and I'm happy to support the development of this game whether I get anything "special" for it or not.
I don't see the need for running around saying things like "It's about time." and "Finally we get what we deserve". It was called a PRE-order for a reason. You order before you get what you pay for, and you even GOT a lot of what you payed for early. It takes some time for things to get settled.
Honestly. Everything is going to happen now the way it was planned from the start. If you don't like it, buy the game, or get a refund. Notch will be happy to perform either service, I'm sure.
ITT: people bash roblox just cause of it sh***y community, and graphics
aside from those two things its a very fun game
Some people don't find Roblox fun at all. It has nothing to do with the graphics, and sometimes has a lot to do with the community, but mostly, for me, it's just a horrible game.
I can't generate a large, deep floating map anymore. It gives me a black screen when it's finished building. Anyone else have this problem?
mabye your just gay cause i did that and didnt get no black screen
Oh, of course! I'm just gay! It's all so clear now, that's why I'm having problems. My computer sees that I actually like men, and it doesn't want to play Minecraft because it's as socially inept as you are! Thank you so much, you've been such a big help.

Yep I do too, dont worry its not just you :smile.gif:
But its only indev so it will get sorted eventually
Yeah, I suppose I should be thankful that we have indev access at all. Sure wish I had my islands back though. :sad.gif:
Minecraft is still in Alpha. Why would you compare an incomplete game to a finished one? Honestly.
I DO SAY THAT RIPE BANANAS TASTE FAR BETTER THAN ONES STILL RIPENING.
Roblox is a finished game? No, seriously. I tried it once and I thought it must be in alpha stages.
Minecraft is more polished than Roblox, and it isn't anywhere near finished. Hell, the indev version is more polished than Roblox. But that's comparing two almost completely different games. Maybe I'm being unfair and Roblox is made to play horribly.
Sorry if I'm sounding like a jerk, but when I played Roblox for a day or so, the community was awful, the servers were awful, the game itself was pretty awful. Everything felt clunky and nothing was really all that fun. I couldn't find my niche in Roblox. Minecraft was and still is a much better game for me.
Well, you know. It's a great game and people want to play it. Most try to find distractions to pass the time but it only lasts so long until we're back here checking. :b
I'm especially sad that it's down because I haven't been able to test any of the new map-gen features due to a graphics card failure. I got my new card installed and I still haven't been able to try anything out due to the site crash. D:
In any case, it undoubtedly passes time to whine on the forums while we wait, even if we could be doing something more interesting. :biggrin.gif:
how does this count as a BUG?! It's a glitch, use the damn thing right
How does this count as helpful? It's being neurotic.
He found a problem, so he told us about it. Who cares if he couldn't classify it correctly? The point is that rain appearing underwater is most likely not a feature.

This glitch/bug doesn't really even matter you know. its not affecting how you walk or build. just how you see the map.
Even if it doesn't really affect anything, it's still not exactly normal behavior to see rain underwater. I'd have reported it if it wasn't here already. :smile.gif:
11. Zombies and Skeletons can swim. That is totally unfair. They should drown the second they hit the water. or if they are in water for a certain ammount of time. some time between 10 and 12.
You're saying something that doesn't need to breathe should drown in twelve seconds. That's almost as ludicrous as them swimming. It's called SURVIVAL for a reason. If you don't want a challenge, go play sandbox.
Notch does have a life outside of Minecraft.
"Oh, sorry, guess I'm not going to Indonesia. I have to be this forum's *****."
Really.
Everyone needs to remember, this is a ghost, a skeleton, a shell of what survival will be. Balance is an issue, but it's not really survival yet. I thought everyone understood that.

Also, that avatar is sick.
