I really don't understand what I'm doing wrong here. I know I'm installing modloader correctly, as I've used to hundreds of times in old versions of minecraft and I can install optifine perfectly. Every single time I try to install modloader, minecraft freezes at the splash screen, even when it's vanilla.

running it in the terminal gives me this:

Exception in thread "Minecraft main thread" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: ModLoader
    at wb.<init>(wb.java:76)
    at wb.<clinit>(wb.java:9)
    at net.minecraft.client.Minecraft.a(SourceFile:265)

    at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:321)
    at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:266)
    ... 5 more

I do exactly what I'm supposed to:

    1. open minecraft.jar in ~/.minecraft/bin folder (using fedora 16 btw)
    2. delete META-INF folder in minecraft.jar
    3. copy all modloader files to minecraft.jar
    4. close minecraft.jar
    5. run minecraft

Can someone please tell me what's wrong with modloader?

Ok I've got a problem here.
When I try to run minecraft with modloader installed, It just hangs on the spash screen. No black screen, no crash dump, just the splash. Running it through the terminal (using Ubuntu btw) I get this:

Exception in thread "Minecraft main thread" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: ModLoader
    at aam.<init>(aam.java:61)

    Yes, I read the FAQ.
Yes, I deleted the META-INF folder.
Yes, I followed the instructions as followed.
yes, I've installed modloader before in previous versions.
Yes, I installed it the same way I have hundreds of times before.
And Yes, This is the only version I'm having trouble with.

Any help is appreciated, thank's in advance.

posted a message on What I feel minecraft is lacking.
    More Ores:

I agree, there should be more ores, but he shouldn't just go implementing them like crazy. There are some mods that have "OH LOOK MOAR OAREZ" and they suck because they just copy the properties of the original ones, or they're just stupid. I use the mystic ores mod + aether mod to get more good stuff without the bloat.

    More unique treasures:
Took the words right out of my mouth. As of now, there aren't a lot of cool treasures. But like I said earlier, the Aether mod does a good job with dungeons and treasures.

    More features for the nether:
I agree once again. I go into the nether just about everytime I play, but that's simply because I have 5 bases VERY far away from each other, so I use it for fast travel. And to be honest, I do like the stuff they've done with it in 1.9, but they could make more stuff.

    More distinct biomes:
They've been doing a good job with this lately, imho. With the swamps, extreme mountains, huge deserts, giant oceans, and sprawling grasslands, I'm pretty happy with the biomes. But, like anything, there is room for improvement.

I suggest that a desert should have a desert feel to it. It should be so hot that your food bar goes down 50% faster than usual (unless you're in shade) and there should be scorpions/scarabs/snakes/mummies with pyramids/oasis areas.

    Better mob spawning algorithm:
agreed. There should be more pig spawning in swamps, more sheep spawning in grasslands, and more cows/chicken spawning in forests.

    More combat items:
I'd like to see Spears, crossbows, throwing knives, daggers, clubs, battle axes, halberds, and long swords/2 handed swords. And why stop there? why not implement 2 handed weilding? allowing for 2 daggers or 1 sword with a shield.

    More interesting mobs:
Aether mod and Mo' Animals do a good job of this. But very true, I was pretty disappointed with endermen in 1.8, but they've gotten better in 1.9. I'd like to see more flying and swimming mods. Not only that, but biome-specific mods, as I stated earlier (scorpions - deserts, polar bears -

Less mechanics that are 'Add because they looked cool' then ignored for long periods of time or simply don't fit the game:
I remember about a year ago, for the halloween update '10, he promised us lanterns, and he still hasn't made them. Believe it or not, there is a built in "Aether" type world in the minecraft.jar. He started working on it, then just dropped the idea. Also, there's a skin for the pigmen (not zombie pigmen) that he put in last year, and has never used it.

    wut

I do believe that there's no such thing as a 512x texture pack (atleast the last time I checked). I'm pretty sure 256x is the highest possible (as of now). But I could be wrong.

I see quite a lot of new and interesting stuff in 1.8 and i'm more than happy with it.

Ignoring the few bugs which are to be expected in a pre-release such as this is, I think we've gotten exactly what we were told we'd get and it looks like both time and effort have gotten into it.

Some of you whiners need to pull the stick out of your ****.

Don't get my first post wrong. I'm still excited for the actual 1.8 release. But we're not getting everything we were told we'd get. I'm fine with the content that's coming in 1.8, but it shouldn't take 2 months to do it.

this is java, the hardest coding ever.he needs to think about his ideas to be
original, and endermen can be scary if you know what your doing.

I seriously hope you're trolling... Java is a language for children, just dumbed down C++ syntax to teach people how to code. It's bloated and is in horrible need of optimization.

If you truly wanted an answer, you wouldn't even have asked this on a forum to begin with, because you'd see the nonsense of your assumptions. Notch is doing just fine.

Give us some examples of this.

Aether mod? Sorry, it took 4-5 months with multiple people.
Paint mod? Yeah, TONS of new features added there (not really).

Do you even know what a betatest is?

These are assumptions based on what you personally want the Endermen to be like. Has nothing to do with Notch. I, for one, find the Endermen to be lots of fun, but "scare factor isn't something you can control for all people. I don't get scared by them at all, either - nor do I get scared by playing Doom 3 on Nightmare. That's me. If I judge Minecraft based on MY fears, then Notch will always fail me and it's futile for him to even try. So I can't, I need to judge the game on how it satisfies "most people", not just me.

Yes, in a leaked pre-release that Mojang had nothing to do with.

50 more features? So basically, a full game developed in 2 months? Not likely. Also, how exactly is Notch no longer an indie developer?

You, my good sir, are so wrong on so many levels. Learn some basic development before you rage, please. Better luck next time.

examples? Mo' Animals, More creeps and freaks, Humans+, millenaire, optifine, zeplin mod, rusumigi's mods, aether, fossils mod, airship mod, air pirate mod, various GLSL shaders, need I go further? Yes the aether took awhile, but it was rich in features and major bugs were worked out before the release.

Yes, I know waht a beta test is. Maybe you didn't have minecraft for the halloween update, but notch released a list of things he promised to do. only half of them got done in 2 months.

is there going to be updates after the full release or is it going to be in its finished state?
1.8 is the last big update before full release so it probably won't be much different and not finished.. there's so much they still need to do with redstone, and add windmills and more mechanisms and blocks ;\

On notch said he's going to keep updating after the full release.

and 1.9 still needs to come out before 2.0

just watch. this will get pushed back to December. Their excuse: "we had to split it up into 2 updates sorry guys!"

He might have millions of dollars, but from what I've heard, with the way the Swedish government works, most of the money is subject to a very high tax.

You should probably do some research about the Swedish tax code before implying that. Not calling you out, just saying :wink.gif:

And even if they were extremely high, notch would still be making a royal fortune.

they really need to outsource some of the coding work though, what are they doing with the millions of dollars from making this game? >.<

"what are they doing with the millions of dollars from making this game?"

self profit. I bet atleast 70% is funneled straight into notch's pocket, 20% is split between the rest of them, and 10% goes to any funding that minecraft needs.

    This a million times.

Millionaire is a NPC village mod, and it's been in development for months. Getting better as time goes.
A few other mods change how generation was handled, and that works well.
Remember hand held torches are "Hard to code"? Yeah, theres a mod for that.

If these mod makers have lives, why does it take them half the time to do something that isnt even their jobs?

There really is NO excuse to why the development is a snails pace, other than to not working on it long enough.

It's not necessarily the development speed I'm concerned about. It's the half-assing of everything. If I had to wait 2 months for rich features and additions to the game, I'd be fine. But we're forgetting the fact that he basically took the code from zombies and added teleportation + getting angry at you for looking at them. The fact that endermen make the same noise as zombies ruins a lot of the creepiness. If anything they should softly whisper in some arcane language, but that's just my opinion.

Notch and everyone else at Mojang have lives, you all should know. They can't be worrying about MineCraft all day. People have families and hobbies, too.

Read the damn thread. I wrote about this earlier on the frist page. I understand that they have lives, but think. They don't have any other jobs, making minecraft IS there job. A typical full-time job is 40 hours per week. that's about 8 hours per 5-day work week. if they just sat down for 4-5 hours every day and tried to get as much done as they can, they'd have 2.0 out months ago.

But they dont. I wouldn't doubt if they give minecraft 1 hour every other day, and then do nothing for the rest of their time.

with proper time management, you can have time for work, hobbies, family, friends, and anything else in between.

How can you play minecraft and hate Gmod

Because minecraft is an amazing survival/sandboxing game with indie roots. Even if it's developed slowly, it's still my favorite game.

I don't specifically hate Gmod, it's not extremely bad in anyway, but it's nothing special. I've played it before at a friend's and it wasn't good at all.

and not to mention all the complete losers who make the unfunny Gmod videos on youtube but think they're funny as hell. Point and case:
