-- We have made it into Minecraft 1.7! --
My main goal with this post was to make the community interested in more biomes so that Mojang would prioritise that aspect in their busy schedules. And it seems we have finally made it happen! Additionally we also got 2 of my suggestions into the game, which of course is fantastic.
---------------------------------
Blossom Grove
Now put down your guard and enjoy the moonlight in this mob free but oh so rare environment. Unfortunately, the underground isn't as peaceful. If you are lucky you will also encounter a deserted old vineyard for some delicious grapes. This rare fruit replenish only 0,5 hunger each, but they are all eaten at the same time, making it the quickest but most expensive food source.
Rumours say the farmers have noticed crops grow faster.
Old version:
Oasis
Take your horse and embark on a journey to discover the Orient. These warm and barren deserts might contain a scarce amount of watering wholes, a common place to find various merchants with donkeys full of goods to trade. Make sure to have your wallet full, for these rare goods cannot be acquired elsewhere.
Fungi Biome
The luminescent mushrooms proves to be a perfect, yet mystique light source in the deep caves of the underworld. Rumours speak about small glowing angler-fishes that thrive in nearby underground lakes.
Thanks to Hansentale for the inspiration.
Tropical Islands
Palm trees grow on the beaches of these plant rich atoll islands located on the great oceans. Breaking palm leaves spawn coco nuts, which are an essential food source out here.
Savannah - IMPLEMENTED IN 1.7
In the never ending terrain of the African wilderness, animals thrive in the shadows of the acacia trees. Clay is commonly found in nearby watering holes.
Wild West desert - IMPLEMENTED IN 1.7
This arid landscape consists of a new reddish stone, and a new matching sandblock*. Lone wanderers need to watch out for the vultures, for they will attack any trespasser carrying raw meet.
*)The sandblock is not present in this screenshot since it's very time consuming covering the grounds.
Autumn forest biome
A colourful forest arises as you continue your exploration. No one in these woods will ever starve, as the ripest apples fall from the trees and the ground is covered by mushrooms galore!
Frost biome
A cold breeze caught the landscape by surprise, which immediately froze the tiniest straw of grass. Make sure you wear some armour, or you will soon be history.
Darklands
The sky darkens as you enter this gloomy realm. A great challenge awaits the one who seek to face the death. Now grab your diamond equipment, you will need it.

Galactic_Muffin posted a message on Colored Glass and Colored Light! (originally Just the 'Colored Glass!' topic but Mojang added our idea! :D Congrats everyone!)NEWS:------------------------------------------------------------------------------Posted in: Suggestions
HUGE NEWS!it's been a year and a half of supporting and discussing this suggestion, it no longer is a suggestion that i can claim as mine for it is an idea that was molded and cared for by so many people, this suggestion is an idea that belongs to the community and because of your help for the past year and a half, we have finally made a breakthrough...
Guys, WE DID IT!
Mojang officially released a screenshot (https://mojang.com/2...napshot-13w41a/) showing colored glass implemented and fixes on the transparency issues they were having before. I can say with confidence that if it weren't for all your support for this topic, there's a good chance that colred glass wouldnt have even been included in this snapshot. For that you guys can be proud to be apart of something big, something that could change the way Minecraft feels forever. Thank you for all your support! And thank you Mojang for putting up with us and taking the time to implement our suggestion! :3Topic:---------------------------------------------------------------------------
However, its not over yet, with the addition of colored glass, there is so much more we can do with it. Adding colored glass could be the beginning of big additions such as colored light in the future; So i will be changing the title of this topic to Colored Light!
Due to this topics' popularity I want this topic to act as an outlet for the communities' ideas and opinions on the topic of colored glass and its implementations in the future. So everyone, let us move on to the next step of our suggestion topic and help make a difference!
"So, I was mining today and stumbled upon beautiful natural glowing crystals in an underground ravine!"
"...Then I investigated a red glow I could see creeping through a tunnel shaft and found myself in the middle of a zombie hive! o__O"
Well, those are some of the things we could be saying if colored glass and colored light were added to MC!
(images above are not real screenshots. They were Photoshopped by me to show what MC could be like if this topic's proposals were implemented)
===============================================================
[NOTE]Colored light and glass is something I believe all minecrafters should be able to enjoy with each other without the midleman or knowledge of mod installing. So for that reason, this suggestion is directed towards vanilla. We do however welcome mods here since it's said that "Colored light isn't possible." -_^
===============================================================
Here is how it could work:
Color Glass Blocks & Changing The Color of Light
Colored Glass and Colored Light are features I have wanted to see in Minecraft for some time. I wanted to see these features implemented so bad that I have come up with some ways it could be used in the game; it would greatly increase building potential and the ability for a player to customize an atmosphere by modifying the color of light. Based on my knowledge working in the game industry as an indiegame digital artist, I know that the impact something like colored glass and light would have on minecraft would be more important than most people know. In fact, it may even be safe to say that even Mojang underestimates the aesthetic importance of colored light and being able to manipulate it.
Here is a little diagram that briefly explains my proposition:
Here is a colored light mod that CptSpaceToster in a video spotlight! check it out! (ehem you too mojang -_^) colored light IS possible and it IS necessary this video shows that:
Here is a different crafting recipe that was originally suggested by ChadGarion25. It is fantastic and gives cauldrons an actual use.
Tell me what you guys think

Also, if you like this suggestion and want to help it become a reality, give the first post in this thread rep points, and get your avatar featured in the 'We Love This Post!' banner down below the OP!!!
Cool Ideas by you guys -_^:
Quote from ChadGarion25
Redo how dyes are handled all together by giving cauldrons a purpose; making dye into a liquid form- Cauldrons containing water can be right clicked with powdered dye to color the water (a tint of water won't require new block types)
- 3 objects can be dyed by right clicking the cauldron of dye whilst holding them. In this case, wool blocks, glass blocks, and glass panes (you can still take stained glass blocks of the same color and craft panes)
Here are some images that better explain the proccess:
Quote from neraphim
If i were to make any suggestions, i would recommend a simple refraction system. Like redstone only carries current 13 blocks or so, the glass panels could, if encased in non-opaque blocks, carry the light further than it would normally travel (like optic fibers). Additionally i would suggest colored redstone lamps, so that the color could be turned on and of at the switch of a button.
Common Questions:
I have received a lot of comments about glass blocks and changing light color causing too much lag or requiring an entire overhaul of the light engine MC currently has implemented. What people don’t fully understand is how MC lights work and where in-game lag actually comes from in videogames. I can't say I completely understand how exactly the MC lighting engine works as I have not seen the code, however it is briefly explained here: http://www.minecraft....net/wiki/Light if you have any better knowledge or sources that explains these points better, feel free to critique my points and share your insight on the topic.
"Why did you label the topic as 'original'? This isn't the first colored glass topic, you know..."
You are correct, this is not the first topic on colored glass, nor am I saying it is. The 'Original' tag in the title is referring to this topic and it's contents specifically. On several occasions, I came across my topic copied directly into Redit and other online blogs; without any sort of credit to the images and content. As the images in this topic were created from scratch by me, copying this topic would be considered art theft.
So to answer your question, the Colored Glass! topic is labeled as original because it is, the original.
Is it possible to change the color of the light?
Yes. Difficult, but possible. It used to be quite easy to light blocks with individual colors in early versions of Minecraft, but with the current light system this is no longer the case. It would require additions to the light system, the renderer, the map file format, and the network protocol. (A technical proposal can be found here, behind the cut.)
(question aswered by Nocte)
Will it cause lag?
Yes, unfortunately the addition of colored light will lower your frame rate. How much? This is hard to predict until someone actually tries it on a variety of hardware, but there's no reason to believe it will be anything drastic. It will also have an impact on memory use -- 64 KB per unpacked chunk to be precise. And of course the color information will have to go over the network somehow. If necessary, it would be possible to add an option to simply ignore the color information, and keep the current system where all block lights have the same yellowish color.
(question aswered by Nocte)
"Are there any Mods with Colored glass or colored light?":
Yes, there are some mods for colored glass and there are older mods that have colored light implemented into MC. Here are just a few of these projects:
• Kovu, a follower of this topic has been working on a colored light prototype. wheather he is doing it with the current minecraft engine or not is unclear but if it is, this proves that colored light is indeed possible with the current lighting engine. it may just need some performance updates. -_^
Discussion found here:
http://www.minecraft.../page__st__1900
• Nocte, one of the followers of this topic is very knowledgeable of what is going on behind all the gears and pendulums of Minecraft and has been working on this project. He may even tackle colored light. -_^
• CptSpaceToaster, one of the followers of this topic is currently working on a colored glass mod inspired by this topic and he is making big progress on colored light; proving that it is Indeed possible to do. You can watch his progress on his colored glass and light mod topics here:
http://www.minecraft...-colored-glass/
http://www.minecraft.../#entry24515141
• Here is a cool mod by Georqq that uses the same system suggested here; smelting colored sands to create colored glass, check it out!:
Colored sands into colored glass
• Here is an outstanding colored light mod that was in the works by theoneandonlyflexo check out his videos and his channel!
Video 1
Video 2
"I don't like colored sand because it would add too many new blocks to MC":
I added colored sand as an option for crafting colored glass because it would kills 2 birds with one stone. It would solve problems for people wanting colored glass and people wanting more color variations in standard blocks such as non-burnable, gravity, and stairs/slabs. The colored sand idea actually wouldn't require any new blocks or textures at all. The reason why, is because of how it could be programed. Much like how the biomes change the color of grass and leaves, both can wool and sand. Thus all blocks or future blocks that are craft able from sand or wool could be done in the same way; being colored entirely in code and decreasing the textures needed for the blocks. This solution would obviously require a change to how entities work but it would make way for limitless amount of colored items much like how leather armor works.
Now you may still be thinking, "well, that still doesn't fix the items being displayed in the inventory" actually it wouldn't be much of a problem since all of these items are just as hard to craft, having an inventory full of different colored sandstone blocks and the like, is only the fruits of your labors; having to collect dies, making cored sand and crafting them into stone. If what you are worrying about is the creative menu being overly crowded; this also wouldn't be a problem since the 1.3.1 update that added an improved creative mode inventory with
categorized tabs for various items/blocks and a search menu. If more colored blocks are added, they could simply just be added into to their own tab with would be extremely useful for pixel art artists and the like.
If you are still unsatisfied with colored sand being a step in creating of colored glass, we have discussed other options as colored sand is only a suggestion. Please look at "Cool Ideas by you guys" above for more information.
"Wouldn't it be easier to make colored glass by just combining it with dye like how you make wool?"
Easier yes, but wouldn't make much sense. Colored sand would mimic how real colored glass is created and it would open up more opportunities for new blocks using colored sand; including colored sandstone steps. Also, considering the "special properties" of colored glass, I believe it should be slightly harder to craft instead of simply adding color. with that said, I do not intend to say my crafting proposition is the best solution. In fact there have been many great alternative suggestions that have been made here. So keep thinking critically, innovate on existing ideas and give us some great suggestions!
"Has Mojang seen this?"
Yes, in fact we even heard back from Mojang on the topic; Nathan Adams also known as Dinnerbone from Mojang stressed that they have indeed been noticing the feedback on colored glass from the community. He also stated that colored glass is indeed possible and hinted that implementation of colored glass is not a "no"; which is exciting news.
Unfortunately, he also informed us that colored light is impossible on a large scale with the current lighting engine. However he also stated: "The lighting system is extremely broken and needs rewriting" this could mean that there is still a chance, if re-written, a new lighting engine may be able to support colored light. But this is uncertain.
The whole conversation can be found here:
https://twitter.com/...219652471980032
ChadGarion25 informed me of a tweet made by Dinnerbone on 25 Sep at 6:14 AM eastern time where dinner bone posted a comment that could be very promising for colored glass and colored light to be implemented into Minecraft!
Check it out!
https://twitter.com/...583946977497088
So basically what we can assume from all this is:
1) colored glass is very much possible in the current version of Minecraft; except it wouldn't allow other transparent textures to be seen through the glass (much how ice and water works in MC) and it would be difficult to ad a Z-buffer without having performance issues on slow platforms. This may not be much of an issue as most people will not have a reason to blend the colors of glass by stacking and though not completely transparent, it may look ok anyway. however I feel if a z buffer were added, perhaps there could be a toggle in video settings to turn off z-buffering for those who are playing on slower computers. Dinnerbone also hinted that the implementation of colored glass into vanilla is neither a yes or a no... so, I wouldn't give up on it just yet, guys. -_^
2) There are mods that have colored light implemented in versions of Minecraft before the adventure update. Check out theoneandonlyflexo for more info!
3) Yes Mojang has noticed this topic so there is no need to keep tweeting it to them as if they have never seen it.

-MOBS-
Combust
Spawning: Nether.
Health Points: 25 (12.5x Hearts)
Drops: Combustion Fluid, Glowstone dust.
Attack Damage: (Varies by proximity) 28 (14xHearts)
Behavior: This mob spawns in small numbers
along the nether. They do not move at all and are immune to knock back.
Their main purpose is to seem like statues. When a player is 20 blocks
or less in distance it will stare at the player. The mob will be begin
to shake a bit as the player gets closer. And when the player is in a
radius of 1 - 0 blocks, the mob will activate its detonation and explode
in 2 seconds regardless if the player moves away. The explosions cause
no structure damage.
What is the purpose of this Mob?: This mob
will provide more of a creepy feeling to the nether and will force the
player to watch there step even more when battling and adventuring. You
must also be on the watch out for these silent bombs and stay clear.
The use Of Combustion fluid Will below the mobs.
Sift
Spawning: Desert, Desert Temples.
Health Points: 14 (7x Hearts)
Drops: Sift Brain, Sand.
Attack Damage: 3 (1.5 Hearts)
Behavior: This mob lives in the desert
disguised as a sand block. it is off-toned from sand but newer players
wont see the difference. once the player comes near the block it will
transform and attack the player. These mobs are hostile day and night.
Once this mob is close to death it will retreat under sand block were
you can dig it out to find it, and finish it off! Note when it retreats
it scurries away and does not turn back into a block!
What is the purpose of this mob?: The mob
would add caution to the desert with out being to dangerous to the
player unless they are in large numbers. (which they usually wouldn't
be) the desert in the day is normally barren and pointless except for
villages and temples. The brains (other then their crafting use) can be
eaten but can cause nausea. and with the brains there can finally be an
addition of nausea out of the coding.
The use Of Sift Brain Will below the mobs.
Rainbow Sheep
[Rough idea of the mob~]
Credit to Equivocus for allowing me to use his idea~
Spawning: Everywhere on grass.
Health points: 8 (4x Hearts)
Drops: Rainbow wool
Attack Damage: Really? It is just a sheep. Come on now...
Behavior: It's behavior is the same of normal sheep.
What is the purpose of this mob?: In the
whole game there are basically no rare mobs. Spider jockeys are
basically it and one can do is just kill it. This sheep would be rare to
find and if you were to find two of them you could breed Rainbow Sheep.
They cannot be dyed.
Goliath
Spawning: Randomly During sieges, When a zombie is struck by lightning.
Health points: 70 (35x Hearts)
Drops: 5 - 8 Emeralds, Rotten flesh and Iron Ingots.
Attack Damage: 10 (5x Hearts with Large Arm) - 6 (3x hearts with smaller Arm)
Behavior: This mob is to be considered a mini-boss for the Villager-Zombie relationship. They spawn rarely but once they do, watch out! This mob is slow moving, but aids zombies in their quest for the to murder the villagers. The Goliath shares a similar size to the iron golem, but a bit larger. The Goliath will attack any living entity, except Zombies, much like the wither.
A factor that makes the Goliath a threat and a boss is it highly resistant to knockback, and being pushed into the air. Explosions hurt them but the knokback is highly lessened. The Goliath will attack the villagers, but also destroy blocks comprised of cobblestone, wood planks, etc to get to them. The Goliath will attempt to destroy the village, and make in them ruins. It must be noted they cannot destroy all blocks, and often will switch between destroying villagers and chasing villagers so they cannot destroy everything in only a matter of minutes.
What is the Purpose of this mob?: This mob will add more to the villages and will pull a player out of a comfort zone when near villages as this mob is made to battle iron golems. When this mob is defeated, it will give emeralds for defeating it that you can then use in the village you just saved.
-Notes-
-On easy the Goliath does not destroy blocks.
-Oh hard mode its rate of arm swings switch.
-Performing the task of transforming it back to a villager with the potion of weakness and golden apple only work when its health bar is at 25%.This will also result in it exploding with its drops.
-The explosion does not cause any damage or destruction to blocks.
-It is effected by sunlight, but it cannot kill it.
-Once all villagers are killed and the mob remains in standby it will de-spawn.
Spirit
Credit To jade-daxej For the Idea~
Spawning: Very rarely in mine shafts and caves.
Health Points: 8 (4x Hearts) Fades away when slain.
Drops:
Attack Damage: 2 (1x Heart)
Behavior: The mob can be seen in a transparent fashion. The mob is ghastly, but neutral in its Villager-like form. The mob will appear in caves and mine shafts VERY rarely, and when it shows its self to you it will aim to lead you to treasures, or hazards. On spawning there is a 50% chance for it to become a "Fruitful Spirit" that will attempt to show you some treasures. And the corrupted spirit will lead you to dangerous monsters, lava and your own destruction. The mob, when provoked, will transform into its real form and attempt to attack you. It is Immune to projectiles due to its low health and damage. Most of the time the mob with fade away from you, phase through walls, and disappear.
What is the purpose of this mob?: The mob is to be an aesthetic mob for mine shafts, like bats, but that add more of a scare to the player.
Note:
- This mob is rare, and the chance of it leading you is rare as well so it doesn't take the fun out of looking in caves.
Frost
Credit to Jacko561 for the idea and concept.~
Spawning: Randomly in cold Biomes there is a 10% when its generated as a structure a form of crater that has netherack and obsidian. and now in the freezing biome the Blaze went through a metamorphosis and is Now the Frost.
Health Points: 25 (12.5x Hearts)
Drops: Frost Rod, Frost Core.
Attack Damage: 7 (3.5x Hearts)
Behavior:This mob is the slower version of the blaze. instead of 3 fast fire balls it blasts 2 slower but stronger ice balls. The ice balls slow down instead of catch the player on fire.
Why have this mob?: It adds more to the blazes, Much like Spiders and Skeletons. They also add something to cold Biomes. They are also the opposite to blazes, being stronger but much slower. For combat maps, providing more challenge if added with blazes.
-ITEMS-
Potion Of Nausea
Recipe: Sift Brain
Description: This one is pretty self explanatory. the Sift Brain can be used as a way to finally make Potions of Nausea.
Potion Of Combustion
Recipe: Combustion Fluid + "Potion stuffs~"
Description: The potion will make the drinker or splashed catch fire, and smoke intensely.
Potion Of Retreat
Recipe: Potion of weakness + Sift Brain or Mundane portion + Sift Brain.
Description: When drank, the player will take more damage from hostile mobs and they appear slightly bigger. This, with the threat of being killed quicker will usually make the player want to retreat from monsters.
When in splashed on hostile mobs they will lose all interest in fighting you, and move away from you. The moving away is important in the to help make farming monsters less easy. but if farming isn't your goal this makes gathering easier with out the threat of monsters when they are splashed.
Potion Of Aggression
Recipe: Potion of Retreat + Fermented Spider eye
Description: When drank, you will do more damage to hostile mobs only. This promotes the player to fight more. When splashed on a hostile mob, the mob will attack any mob it is near by. Regardless if they are the same mob, or not it they will indiscriminately attack any other mob. This potion can be quite entertaining, and it actually helps when splashed on the player and on other mobs as you will do more damage and they no longer just focus on you.
Rainbow Wool
From: Shearing the Rainbow Sheep. A trophy of sorts for finding such a rare find!
BBQ Stand
Trap Block
Wooden BBQ Stand
Crafting Recipe: 4 Sticks, 2 Wood, Coal.
Description: This is a portable Furnace. Not to take away the use of the furnace by any means . This Item when Placed on the floor It has A Total of 8 Uses. [The same amount as a single piece of coal] and It cooks just a bit faster. When used up it disappears. The Item is aimed to be Used at the beginning of a new map instead of a furnace. When traveling and one only has a bit of coal and they have food to cook. When struck the stand turns back into an item for easy travel. The item gives off SOME light even when not cooking to make it a nice addition when in caves.
Credit to colers5 For the Stone snakes idea. Very tweaked but it gave birth to this idea!
Recipe: Un-craftable. Creative only.
Description: This item is spawned In Jungle temples. It Take the shape of the temple blocks. It is Destructible, But when mined like any other block instead of giving off a block it detonates. No timer. Instantaneous. This Block is a threat to Those who aim to cheat In the Jungle Temples by just mining through everything. It could also be used in my adventure maps aswell~
Note: The Explosion Should not cause any destruction to blocks.

firewave15 posted a message on Lances. The lance would be a Weapon that could be found in strongholds or if Mojang decided you could craft it.Posted in: Suggestions
Info about the lance:
The lance wold be longer than a sword, if you are not going fast enough it will just be pointed upward, works on the ground as a pike.
Crafting recipe:
W = wood S = sticks
W W
W S S
There would also be iron, gold, and diamond lances. Damage:Knockoff:
FT = full thrust HT = half thrust QT = quarter thrust, thrust meaning speed.
Wood: FT = 5 HT = 4 QT = 3
Iron: FT = 7 HT = 6 QT = 5
Gold: FT = 5 HT = 4 QT = 3
Diamond: FT = 8 HT = 7 QT = 6
Their could be a bar saying how fast you are going
Theirs a chance you could get knocked off heres the chance rate:Durability
FT = full thrust HT = half thrust QT = quarter thrust, thrust meaning speed.
FT 50 % chance HT 25 % chance QT 10 % chance

I love it Gryphons are amazing!
How about a weapon for someone to use against them?
like a big fire torch that has long range to hit gryphons with
and about wild gryphons, what if when you kill them you get a gryphon wing, maybe used to make the anti-gryphon weapon? -

Pixelpain posted a message on Minecart with cactus, UpdatedMinecarts with cactus? That might sound crazy but it use is to cause damage while the minecart is moving. To craft it: just simply put the cactus in the minecart in the crafting table and one sand block and you get a minecart with a cactus! It will deal damage when it's moving and when it's not moving. It will still deal half a heart. Becareful when using them because pushing them will still do damage. The cactus will not grow and it's safe to hit it and it will drop a minecart, cactus and one sand block. So Minecarts with a cactus are like moving traps. It can also knockback you depending on the speed of the cart and the damage will still be the same.Posted in: Suggestions
Advantages and disadvantages:
Advantage:
Plows mobs that are standing in your rails.
Can be used for complicated traps or mob farming.
Protects your minecarts.
Knocks back mobs depending on the speed of the cart.
Disadvantage:
Does weak damage.
Pushing it can be difficult since it can damage you
when touching it.
Griefers may steal the cart when it's not moving.

DragonRush posted a message on [Over 30 Supporters] Dog GUI - Smarter DogsNow, many have played on servers with friends. Many also use dogs to help explore. Every once in a while friends hit dogs accidentally. Of course you don't want your friend(s) to kill themselves by doing so. Eventually you would have to kill the dogs to stop annoyance.Posted in: Suggestions
To prevent that, I suggest Minecraft adds a new feature to dogs- a GUI. Most of you would think this is impossible, as right clicking(most used to go into GUIs) is already used for making your dogs sit. To open the GUI, you must right click the dog while sneaking.
The GUI has 2 features. The first one is called "Friends". The "Friends" feature is used for the dog to determine who to NOT HIT. Typing in someone's username will add one to the list. To add multiple people, type a comma after the username, and just like regular grammar add a space and then the word. Anyone correctly entered in the box will not be hit by your dog, even if they attack them.
The second feature is "Enemies". The "Enemies" feature is used for the dog to determine who to HIT. The instructions on how to use it are the same as the "Friends" feature, except anyone entered correctly will be hit by your dog when they get in its range, even if they don't attack them.
Also, to prevent others from doing things such as killing your dogs by replacing your name into the "Friends" feature only the tamer of the dog can change the features.
The third feature is the "Hunt" feature. When turned on, your dog will attack everything except for creepers in its range(not sight) Thus, enabling an easier way to collect items. Instead of listing, as soon as turned on the dog will go for any players or mobs, excluding the tame.

Mobius762 posted a message on Falconry: Tameable Birds and a use for Quivers!Hey guys! This is my first suggestion, but I will try to make it as well-planned and explained as possible. I have searched through the forums and found a few other topics that have simply died on adding the aspect of falconry into the game. Usually, they failed due to being either wishlists or having poorly developed content.Posted in: Suggestions
That was a screenshot from a texture pack I am working on. Then I realized: "Actual owls would certainly be better than this fake rendering of them." So I developed my ideas, wrote them down, and tried to keep it tied to vanilla as possible. After all, there will always be the people who dislike a suggestion for a single out-of-place addition. (Note, when I use the term "raptor" in this thread, I am referring to predatory birds)
Basic Idea
Obviously, we don't need another aesthetic mob like basic owls flying around. So I thought of falconry. It could be an interesting, game-changing aspect to a game that some of the community sees as bland. With the addition of various birds of prey, and ways to control them, players could have another way of obtaining food and perhaps attacking enemies.
Added Mobs
I am not going to go into extreme detail, I am just setting out a basis here.- Falcon: Darts across the sky in a jerky manner, somewhat less violently than how bats behave now. Much faster than owls, but deal only one heart of damage. Acts as an extension to the player, as maps will map out the locations that both you and your falcon are in.
- Owl: Active from dusk 'till dawn. They are slow and cumbersome at turning. Deals two hearts of damage when attacking. Due to the owls large, always alert eyes, endermen are scared of them and will run away.
I don't want to add much here, just enough to compliment the rest of the suggestion. (1.7.3 fans might get upset. )- Nest: A naturally generated block. Drops sticks when broken. Will go into greater detail later in the post.
- Quiver (Standalone): Allows the player an improvement to archery that will be discussed further in the thread.
- Quiver/Gloves: Essentially a a hunter's dream gear. It allows a player the control over their birds as well as an improvement to archery. (Potential Crafting idea: It is crafted like a regular leather chestplate, except the middle piece of leather is replaced with a quiver. Can also combine a quiver with an existing leather chestplate)
Wild birds of prey would rely on the day/night cycle. While not technically having a hunger bar, every x-amount of minutes (good number is 3) they would attempt to 'hunt' a suitable prey (mob) by swooping down on them. It will instantly kill mobs smaller than itself, regardless of the mobs health.
When attacking, a random "yes or no" value is sent to the mob it is attacking. If "yes", the animal would run away in the same manner as if a player had hit it. It should also emit a screeching noise. Owls are exempt from this, as they are silent when they hunt. Currently there are only three animals that could be prey: chickens, bats, and fish (if actual models for fish are implemented, darn-it Jeb!).
At the end of their the day (Night for owls), a bird would search for a nest or fence within a 64 block radius of its position. If one is found, it will roost in it until day comes again. If no nest or fence is within that radius, a bird will simply find a leaf block to rest on and a nest block will spawn there. A bird will flee if a player moves moves the cursor in a jerky manner within a certain distance of it, similar to the AI cats use to detect this. (10 blocks, maybe?)
Taming a raptor should be "not entirely unlike" taming cats. A player places down a perch or waits where he sees an owl nearby. The owl will weight the possible places to rest for the day between the perch, fence-posts (lowered likelihood) , and any nests in the area. The player must stand very still near a perch, with the similar mechanics for taming cats. Now that a player can get close, he can tame it by right clicking it with leather (Like putting on straps and a hood). A texture change would happen, letting the player know it is now tamed.
When tamed, raptors will behave quite differently than wild ones. Similar to other tameable mobs, they will follow the player, resting when the player is not moving. Their preference of blocks to rest on might be something like this: Perch, Leaf, Grass, fence.
While wearing quiver/gloves armor, the player is allowed to right click areas to control their raptors. When aiming at a body of water, a tamed bird will swoop down with a chance of throwing a fish in the player's direction. (Credit to Islacrusez for fishing idea.) Aiming at an entity and right clicking will make the bird attack it. When a perch is right clicked, one of your birds will come down and a texture change will occur to show that the bird is strapped to the perch. Sometimes your birds will just be sitting there already, and right clicking will do the same thing. Right clicking it again will release the bird from the perch.
Wearing this armor gives the player a few distinct advantages in PVP/PVE.First off, instead of all these far-fetched, complicated ideas of switching between arrow types, the quiver would only do two things. When equipped, a spot in your inventory would be highlighted. This is your currently selected slot for arrows, allowing an easy way to implement more arrow types without adding more inventory space. Secondly, it would slightly decrease the time it takes to charge a bow and lessen the speed penalty while charging a bow.
As for the gloves in this piece of armor, they provide a simple yet intuitive way of controlling your raptors. When you right click while looking at an entity, your tamed birds will attack the target once. When used in combination with a bow, it allows for a completely new combat style. Please note that this is a SINGLE piece of armor. The down-side is that it provides even less protection than it's leather-chestplate counterpart, at only 1 of 20 armor points. Also, it cannot be enchanted like other pieces of armor.
New Combat Style Explained
As said earlier in the post, the quiver/gloves armor adds a second efficient way of combat (The other being a full set of enchanted diamond armor) when used with other pieces of gear. To be effective, a player must strafe to avoid other players shooting at him and use the knockback of their arrows to keep the other player away. Every time the player charges the bow and has his crosshairs over the other player, his tamed raptors will attack that targeted player once. After his birds are not in danger of being shot, the player lets loose an arrow and charges his bow again, repeating the process.
NOTE: With the addition of horses in the new snapshots, I really got to see how awesome my idea could be in tandem with them. Just imagine riding your horse towards someone as you fire arrows, all the while your falcons bearing down upon them in a deadly fashion!
Pros (compared to wearing a diamond chestplate):- Well suited for long-range (and soon horseback) combat.
- Available somewhat-early on in the game (Leather)
- Suited to both offensive and defensive playstyles.
- Most importantly, isn't it fun to watch an Owl swoop down and scratch your enemies eye out?
- It isn't worth crafting a quiver/gloves as your first option, most players would choose armor points first so they can survive the night.
- Only 1 of 20 armor points, 7 less than a diamond chestplate
- Not enchantable
- Limits player to long range combat, because of the poor protection granted in melee combat.
">SNAPSHOT ADDITIONS[/size;">]
So, I will be making a small bullet list here whenever an addition in a snapshot has the potential to make something in this suggestion topic better.- Use a leash to strap a falcon onto a perch.
Please, comment on this thread if you have any opinion about it, whether it be support for this or not.

SkarmorySilver posted a message on Bombs, the Minecraft Way!All right everyone, welcome to my first Minecraft forums suggestion. I hope this isn't redundant because I haven't read all the different suggestions related to explosives, but I don't remember any recommendations for throwable ones so I think this is okay. Anyway, here goes...Posted in: Suggestions
"Boy, I can't wait to bomb some Dodongos!"
or...
HOW TO MAKE A HOMEMADE BOMB, THE MINECRAFT WAY!
We all know about TNT, but we also know that it takes time to place it, set it off, and wait for hilarity to ensue. Trust me, wasted time is the last thing you want when a zombie's about to get you! So, don't you wish you want a means of blowing up foes quickly and without setting up redstone circuits or waiting for detonation? Now you can! And all you need (for a start) is some iron, gunpowder, and redstone.
HOW TO USE:
Bombs explode with the same power as a Creeper, but are throwable by right-clicking like a snowball. Once a bomb hits the ground, you have a three-second countdown before the bomb detonates, during which the lights on the bomb will flash and beep each second (so you have four seconds to run for your life!). You cannot put a bomb back in your inventory once it's been thrown (and really, who'd be stupid enough to do that?). However, you can right-click without holding anything to pick up the bomb and throw it somewhere else - but you'll have to be fast, or it'll blow up in your face!
RECIPES:
Bomb (default)
This is the default bomb. It's easy to make and easy to use, and you can get the materials you need without much effort. However, once you find the right items, you can upgrade your bombs and make more deadly explosives...
Super Bomb
Combining a bomb with gunpowder results in the Super Bomb, which has twice the explosion radius of the normal bomb. However, it also takes twice as long to detonate than the normal bomb.
Quick Bomb
Combining a bomb with redstone results in the Quick Bomb, which detonates instantly upon landing and is great for griefing via explosion spamming. The radius is only half that of the normal bomb, however.
Shard Bomb
Combining a bomb with one more iron ingot results in the Shard Bomb, which takes the same time to explode as the normal bomb and sends out shrapnel in random directions upon doing so. The shrapnel looks like arrows without the shafts, and travels through the air in a similar manner. Between a dozen and two dozen shrapnel pieces can be generated per detonation.
Flash Bomb
Combining a bomb with glowstone results in the Flash Bomb, which works like the Quick Bomb but turns the entire screen white for a brief instant if it explodes within a 20-square radius of the player. Throwing it a further distance results in a brief flash of light level 15 from the blast site. Any mobs within a twenty-square radius of the bomb will become confused and wander about randomly for twenty seconds, and anything within ten will recieve the nausea effect as well for ten seconds. The player must therefore be careful not to get caught in the blast, lest the same effects occur to him/her.
Smoke Bomb
Combining a bomb with an ink sac results in the Smoke Bomb, which has the smallest blast radius but also produces a cloud of thick black smoke (rendered in a similar fashion to clouds in vanilla). Any hostile mobs that are caught in the smoke will be unable to attack the player. Getting caught in the smoke results in a Slowness effect over a 20-square radius and a Blindness effect within 10 squares, but unlike with the Flash Bomb, he player is immune to both of these effects. It's also the best for bombing Dodongos!
I will gladly take suggestions for more bombs and recipe ideas in the future. In the meantime, feel free to show some support by putting up this lovely achievement on your signature:
So yeah, bombs. I hope you enjoyed reading this, and thanks for taking the time to learn how to make your own Minecraft-edition throwable explosives! - To post a comment, please login.

DISCLAIMER: Please note that this is not a mod, nor a mod suggestion. This is a suggestion for Mojang to add to vanilla Minecraft.
Hello! I would like to share my ideas of how Gryphons might be a good addition to Minecraft. After deciding to post my suggestion here, I did a search and saw that there have been a few posts about Gryphons throughout the past few years. But they were quite different from what i had in mind, focused on a wide swath of mythical creatures, or mod/add-on related.
My hope is that others will share my vision for simple, balanced, non-immersion-breaking, Mojang-style Gryphons to be added to Minecraft in a future patch.
Here it goes:
A way I could see Gryphons fitting into the Minecraft universe is that in an "Extreme Hills" biome, you could find a nest either on top of a mountain, or on the side of a cliff. I imagine the nest would only be one or perhaps two blocks large and in the shape of an eagle's nest. In my opinion, the player would never see a wild adult Gryphon. The only chance they would have at seeing a Gryphon would be if they raised one themselves. Thus making them FAR more rare and special. Almost like finding diamonds. If the player were lucky enough to find one of these nests, and endured the journey to reach it, they would see an egg sitting in the middle of the nest.
The player would then follow these steps to hatch, raise, saddle and then ride their Gryphon:
Just because the player has a Gryphon doesn't mean he or she is able to fly anywhere they want with no limitations. Far from it. This will be nothing like flying in creative mode. It will be a slight advantage over regular walking and jumping that the player will have earned.
If you have built a giant castle like my brother and I have, which i'm sure MANY of you have, then I have a feeling you'll understand why I think the best use for a Gryphon would be to quickly reach one of the top floors of your castle without having to climb all of it's inner stair cases and ramps.
But there would be many, many more uses, such as:
The last thing I would ever want is to suggest an idea that would ruin the immersion of Minecraft. I believe this idea would be game fitting for Minecraft because of the wonderful animals Mojang has already put into the game. When I think of Gryphons in Minecraft, I can just picture an in-game Gryphon done in Mojang's wonderfully simple yet beautiful art style... All block-ish and colorful
GAME BREAKING?:
No more than a boat would be. You would hardly be able to aim at someone with a bow, let alone actually hit them with an arrow from it. Hitting a player or mob with a sword would be even harder. In order to deal damage to anything, from bow or sword, you'd have to land your Gryphon and completely stop moving. At that point, you would actually become vulnerable due to lack of mobility (You cannot walk or run on a Gryphon, only fly. And take-off isn't instant, due to the need to flap your Gryphons wings.). This is not a mount intended for combat.
Thanks for reading and sorry for the giant wall of text.
I would like to thank Theriasis for their wonderful guide on how to post on the suggestion forum. I tried my best to follow their advice!

SUPPORTER SUGGESTIONS:
You guys have given me many awesome suggestions so i decide to place the most game fitting and balanced ones here:
Disclaimer: I will try my best to describe your guys' ideas and list the names of the people who have suggested them. Let me know if i miss something!
Disclaimer II: This thread is rapidly gaining support and unfortunately i can't always keep track of who has suggested what. I'm most likely to miss some people who deserve credit, sorry. Let me know if i do!
0. HEALTH, HUNGER AND MORTALITY (pinballboy7, Droideka30, Papertiger, zeel, ErasmoGnome, IonicTiger): One of the most talked about suggestions. The idea that tamed Gryphons should have health, hunger and be killable by mobs, other players or enviromental conditions (lava, etc.). It has also been suggested that if your Gryphon gets hungry enough, it will bite/peck at you in frustration, buck you off if you attempt to mount it, or even go off and eat wild animals and/or livestock (pigs, chickens, sheep, cows).
1. Soaring (Papertiger, Droideka30, zeel, crazeenuthead): You should be able to hold down the space bar to make your Gryphon soar, once you have already achieved altitude and speed
2. Wild adult Gryphons in the sky (Papertiger, Paradox01010, zeel): You shoud sometimes be able to see wild Gryphons flying high up (out of reach) in the sky. Perhaps flying in the direction of where a nest and egg is. This would most likely be rare.
3. Walking (Kisdee, RobertFrans): Instead of strictly being able to fly and hop, a mounted Gryphon would be able to slowly walk on the land as well. It would be unable to move up and down blocks (like a pig), but you could just press spacebar to flap its wings in order to hop up to where ever you are trying to get.
4. Breeding (Droideka30, Papertiger, zeel): If you are lucky, and skilled enough, to obtain two Gryphon eggs, and now are the proud owner of two Gryphons, you should earn the right to breed them. Once Gryphons breed, they would lay one egg. It has also been suggested that tamed Gryphons can only breed during a full moon and that when bred in captivity, Gryphons need a "Brooding box" in which to lay their eggs. See Papertiger's brooding box concept art here
5. Gryphon melee attack (Paradox01010, zeel): Your Gryphon would be able to do damage and/or a knockback to enemies that you dive at with it. This would be hard, but if you were able to steer your Gryphon properly, you would inflict damage fairly.
6. A special way to take the egg (Moosemunchee, zeel, RobertFrans, IonicTiger, zapper990): The idea that the player shouldn't simply be able to punch the Gryphon egg until it breaks and then pick it up. Perhaps the player would have to use a pickaxe with the Silk Touch enchant, a piston, minecart and rail, diamond pickaxe, shovel or something else. It has also been suggested that Gryphon nests and eggs should spawn only in the spring and despawn in the fall, meaning that you can never find them in the winter.
7. DOGFIGHTS! / Sky Jousting/ Sky Duels (bebe33, Papertiger, Paradox01010): It would be awesome, wouldn't it?
8. Visual roll while turning (bebe33): The idea that a Gryphon should roll slightly while turning, for visual effect. Much like how a bird rolls as it turns in real life.
9. Pitch (bebe33, zeel): The idea that you should be able to pitch your Gryphon up and down while flying. Pitching it downwards will increase your forward momentum. Pitching it upwards will increase altitude.
10. Thrust (zeel): The idea that you should be able to choose the level of thrust per wing flap based on your timing and space bar usage. (Half flaps, full thrust flaps, etc).
11. Wing angle and banking (zeel):
See also zeel's ideas for flight mechanics
12. Armor! (zeel, papertiger, Droideka30, IonicTiger): The idea that Gryphons should be able to equip special Gryphon-only armor. There would be leather, iron, gold and diamond versions. The better the quality of the armor, the higher movement speed penalty the Gryphon would suffer due to the weight. It has been suggested that you only find these pieces of armor in Strongholds.
13. Inventory (papertiger, Droideka30, zeel, IonicTiger): The idea that you should be able to place an item similar to a saddle bag or pouch on your Gryphon's back that would act as a chest and the Gryphon's inventory. This may or may not be where you would equip Gryphon-only armor at.
14. Talon grab (SkarmorySilver, papertiger): The idea that your Gryphon should be able to grab things with it's talons on command while mounted. Possible things Gryphons could grab: mobs, players, items, blocks. To make it balanced, if your Gryphon did grab a mob or player, the mob or player would still be able to aim up and attack the Gryphon and/or it's rider. With this form of balance in mind, the player would be able to use it's Gryphon to drop mobs from great heights, inflicting falling damage. This would be at the risk of the Gryphon and the Player's health and well being, however.
15. The Spire (IonicTiger): Click here to view IonicTiger's idea for a Gryphon nest atop a spire:
What if the nest, instead of spawning on the side of a cliff, would spawn on a massive spire that, depending on the hight of the mountain it spawned on, would range any where from a mere twenty blocks high, or a staggering hundered blocks high, and wouldn't end until it reached a few blocks above cloud level, thus forcing you to fight the adult gryphon?
The spire would be a jagged piller of rock, twisted and craved by the wind, as it has stood for a millennium, awe inspiring by its sheer size.
The design of it would have to be carefully considered; if too thin in, it would look a bit... strange; I would prefer it to be at least 7 blocks by 7 blocks, but, players would be able to tunnel right under the tower (assuming that it was hollow), and build a dirt tower to come out right under the egg.
You could fill the inside of the spire with lava, but this would be massively off theme.
Possibly the easiest solution to this problem would be to have to tower made of obsidian, and it would not be hollow. You could tunnel under it, but it would be easier to just fight the mother.
Also, as a few pages back there was talk of gryphons, being the most noble of beasts, collecting treasure, why not have blocks of gold, diamond, and emerald embedded in the spire?
They (the aforermetioned valuable minerals) would randomly spawn in the outer most layer of the spire, but there would only be a maximum number of only six blocks spawning in a tower that could be a hundred blocks high, so even getting them would be a mighty challenge.
16. Lance and saddle mounted lance holder (firewave15): firewave15 has suggested that there should lances and saddle mounted lance holders that the player could use from Gryphon and also possibly Horse back. The saddle mounted lance holder would be required in order for the player to maintain control of his mount whilst using a lance. The lance would do damage based on the speed that your Gryphon is traveling upon the point of impact with an enemy. The lance would have a longer reach than a sword, making it ideal for mounted combat. But it would be useless for anything else. The mounted lance holder would most likely break after a set number of uses, perhaps 50.
17. Fear of fire (IonicTiger): The idea that Gryphon's should be afraid of fire, and will not fly within 5 blocks of any fire. This would add balance to PVP ground vs air combat, making players on the ground slightly more defended from Gryphon riders. Players on the ground would still be vulnerable to a Gryphon rider's bow and splash potions, however.
CALL TO ARMS... AND TWEETS... AND REDDITS!
I encourage all of our supporters and/or bannerlords to tweet @Dinnerbone and @Jeb_ so that they can become aware of Gryphons and perhaps add them in a future patch. It worked for the "Colored glass" suggestion. They tweeted and got noticed and now have a good shot at having their idea added. We can do it too, guys!

What Papertiger means is that:
It would be quite difficult to be effective in combat vs. a ground target if you are mounted on a Gryphon. You would have very limited mobility. You would actually be vulnerable to things such as zombies, creepers, skeletons, spiders and other players (While landed/at ground level). Where as if you were to fight another player who was also on a Gryphon in the air (Dogfight!), it would be a much more balanced fight because both of you would be limited by the same maneuverability constraints yet you'd both be able to take advantage of the Gryphon's powers of flight and altitude!
Although our idea of Minecraft Gryphon's main purpose is for flying transportation, and not for combat, i like the idea of two Gryphon riders having a Dogfight/Sky duel. It would be a very intereresting thing to see.
As for hostile flying mobs... The suggestion forum rules say you are only supposed to have one suggestion per thread so i'm not going to comment on that, sorry.

I made some roosts and took some pictures to show the types of structures players might create to house their Gryphons.
Sorry for the poor image quality. These were made in the Xbox360 release and the "Share to Facebook" option isn't currently working so i had to take these with a camera. I play the PC version of Minecraft too but i find the Xbox release more relaxing.
Dictionary.com 's definition of Roost:
"noun
1. a perch upon which birds or fowls rest at night.
2. a large cage, house, or place for fowls or birds to roost in.
3. a place for sitting, resting, or lodging.
verb (used without object)
4. to sit or rest on a roost, perch, etc.
5. to settle or stay, especially for the night."

Thanks for your feedback. I did not think of how this would effect multiplayer servers at all. I've been basing my idea off of single player survival mode game-play.
Thanks! I might just do that.
