posted a message on Can't connect to LAN server

I have been a minecraft user for nearly 6 years and i have made multiple servers that my bothers and i connected to on our home network. I took a break from minecraft for about 3 months and then i recently came back and i cant get my brothers to connect to my computers server. We are all on the same network. I've tried using using my router assigned ip and ive tried port-fowarding and using my public ip but for some reason no one can connect. I can connect to the server on the computer that is running the server but no where else. Ive tried using the default 25565 port and even a new port but nothing seems to be working. Everything in the server config is correct. Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

    Thanks!

    Sorry i took so long,

If you could attach a screen shot of your routers port forwarding screen that would be great!

the router assigned me a ipv4 just between my computer and the router, my external ip is the ipv6. I used the ipv4 to port foward to my computer but i sent the ipv6 to my friends and they cant connect.

Make sure you're giving them the IPv6 address for your computer, not your router. As IPv6 allows for vastly more addresses than IPv4 did, each device has a unique address, instead of sharing one given to them by your ISP or router.

I went into my cmd and typed ipconfig and under my wireless LAN adapter and there were a few temporary ipv6 and a few regular ipv6. which do i use? Ill attach a photo. And as a note the doubles are different.

I believe you are trying to port forward? If so, then the WAN and LAN are the IP's. LAN stands for local area network or in other words, its the address that the router gave your computer so it knows where to send information when you are using the internet. WAN is the public IP assigned to your router by your service provider.

Go into your router and click on the port forwarding tab (possibly under advanced). Enable this then follow the below steps:

When port forwarding, you use the port 25565 which is default for minecraft for the internal and external ports. Your router will want an ip so it knows where to send the traffic going through the port 25565. You can find this (on Windows) by opening cmd or command prompt on your computer and typing ipconfig. This will bring up a bunch of stuff, if you are using ethernet (a wired connection) look for an address under the ethernet adapter section (I will upload a photo to show this). If you are using wifi, look for your wireless LAN adapter. Look under these sections for your ipv4. This is the address which you will put in your router port forwarding section. The starting and ending port it asks for is 25565 for both.

After that you need to put that ipv4 from the cmd into your server properties file with port 25565 in their respective places.

If done correctly, you should be able to google "what is my ip" take that and send it to your friends and they should be able to use that to connect.

posted a message on Setting up IPv6 Port Foward

So i'm trying to set up a server and port forward it so my friends can get on. Ive done this before with ipv4 but my provider switched me to the new ipv6.

So i got my ip from googling it and then forwarded the port 25565 in my router to connect to my computer. The problem im having is that my friends cant connect to my server. I gave them my ipv6 but they cant connect. The ip i gave them looks like (but isnt)- [2601:0:c00:c57b:41ff:111:111:111]:25565

I read that the way to designate a port with ipv6 is to put brackets around the ip like that and then :25565

    Is there anything I've missed?

    Thanks!

posted a message on Anyone got a small, PURE vanilla server?

If you are looking for a host you can check out MCPro Hosting. they have good servers that can be vanilla or moded and they have a great support staff and servers all around so you can get one close to you so you have less lag.

If your looking for a server someone has running that you want to play on, good luck. Many servers out there are moded.

i dont know why that would happen. Inherently a port-fowarded server should be faster ad less laggy than a hamachi server.

You have pretty good specs for your computer but the only thing to help would be your internet. Sorry.

I think that that is pretty good. The upload is very bad. If you could, get a wired connection if you are using wifi.

Humm. I dont know why this would happen. I guess i would suggest setting the ram back to the default 1gb.
