posted a message on [1.7.10] Space Astronomy [Space] [HQM] [Tech] *DONT POST ISSUES HERE*

SA Seemed like a cool modpack from the description, but honestly it was the quickest delete of any modpack I have tried. I appreciate the effort but there are some serious problems with the start of this modpack. First off, silly typos in the first information book really make you look like a noob (you mixed up expect with except, two completely different words). And then the very first quest is bugged: the three part quest is completed even though you only have 1 item of the three required in your inventory. I'm just going to assume that following the first handful of quests nets you some flint or a functioning tool as a reward since as far as I can see there is no (practical) way to get flint or tools since tools you can make all have a durability of 1, which is a HUGE turn off. I've played other mod packs that basically forced you to use tinker's tools to start and disabled the default tools, so that in itself isn't a huge problem, but at least they had the 3 gravel = 1 flint recipe enabled so I could quickly get some tinker's flint tools made. In my opinion, the quest book should be there to enhance and inform, but not forced on you at the start like your modpack seems to do especially when it's bugged and a WIP. I think a person who is experienced in playing MC mods should be able to get a quick start without being forced to go through 1 quest at a time, in the hopes that flint or a tool will be a reward at some point. I just wanted to play a modpack focused on Galacticraft without being forced to jump through silly hoops and being slapped in the face with noobish mistakes from minute 1. Oh and by the way, you do realize that "astronomy" is a branch of science focused on space? So your modpack title is a bit redundant, and can be literally translated as "Space the science of space". Perhaps something else would be a bit smoother like "Space Journey / Odyssey / Trek / Quest / Exploration" or whatever? Good luck with the modpack, I hope you'll see my comments as constructive as I'm sure the goal of any modpack maker is to have people like it immediately and not be turned of by it immediately.

There is an item in this mod called "Advanced Item Filter" and I can't find any documentation anywhere on the web as to how to use it. According to FTB wiki and Technic wiki, the item doesn't even exist. Even on post 1 of this thread it is not listed as part of the mod. Can anyone help? When you hold it in your hand right click it cycles through various programs like "item.exe" "block.exe" "pulverizer.exe". The in game NEI description says "...can be placed in normal filters to create advanced behaviors." However, I can't find any documentation as to what the programs do.

    Quote from Qumlarea»

Hogwash just utter hogwash. Your opinion of vanilla couldnt be futher from the truth. You might think vanilla was a waste of time but for some of us vanilla is they way to ply the game. With vanilla I am able to create my own version of the MC world but with modded I am limited to playing in some one else's idea of the MC world. My point being just because you like some thing doesnt mean everyone likes it also. For the person who made this thread in the 1st place play around with both versions and have a look at the mod's as well and see which ones you like the best and let your creative side come alive. Dont take everyone else's opinions as fact play the game and see what you like.

You realize of course that is your opinion? And not the "truth"? It's kind of a given that we are all stating our opinions. I could use your exact sentences against your position. Vanilla bored me in 1 day. Modpacks have kept me playing for a couple more months now. Yes maybe I get bored of games a little faster than other people do, but that doesn't mean I'm lying about my own experience which is what you are suggesting. Relax ;o)

Play vanilla for like 1 day so you understand the basics. Then the next day download an FTB modpack like Infinity. That's what I did ;o) It's not even the same game anymore once you put an FTB modpack on it. It goes from being a mediocre game (vanilla) to an amazing game once you get a good mod pack going. Watch a let's play series on Youtube for whatever modpack you are playing and you'll quickly learn the mod and the right order to tech up etc...That's what I did. There are some various issue that can arise with modpacks like if your pc is not too beefy it may lag out with a huge modpack like Infinity. But I'm doing ok with an old dual core system a now out of date graphics card and 16g ram.

I seriously wouldn't waste too much time playing a vanilla game because once you get the modpack installed you'll probably be like me and think "What did I waste 8 hours playing vanilla for????? LoL...robots...computers...magic...crazy new monsters...nuclear reactors...different dimensions...backpacks...better & more weapons / armor / tools...automated mining / farming...+150 other cool things. Need I say more?

posted a message on Attack of the B-team modpack, can't get the pulverizer powered help

I've tried everything, put the steam dynamo and pulverizer in different positions next to each other, tried using leadstone cable or w/e it's called (the energy conduit from TF). Nothing works. FTB wiki says the pulverizer requires an engine to power it but there are no engines in the modpack apparently....I saw a guy on YT playing the same modpack (but from a year ago) power the pulverizer by sitting it right on top of the steam dynamo, but this doesn't work for me.

update: I got it to work by experimenting in creative mode, but it definitely seems like some type of bug is in action. I had tried earlier to connect the leadstone energy conduit from the top of the steam dynamo to the right side of the pulverizer and it didn't work, tried it at least 2x in the same configuration. Then while messing around in creative mode it started working in the exact same config I had tried earlier.....But if I'm wrong and it's not a bug could someone maybe shed some light on this?

I just started playing the FTB departed modpack, and noticed the AoA version is out of date. If I update to the current version will it possibly cause problems with the other mods in the pack? Will I need to start a new game?

posted a message on Help!!!!! Minecraft Server Logs In, Generates World, But Crashes One Second After :(

I have no idea how to interpret a crash report, but one thing you might want to try if you haven't already is lower the number of chunks being rendered. My game kept crashing after it generated a new world like you describe, and I turned the rendered chunks number down and it finally worked.

posted a message on help I need to know what mods GO great together.

I'd recommend you go to the feed the beast website and download their launcher, which makes it easy to install modpacks. I'm playing direwolf20's modpack 1.7.10, it's awesome. It's got so much crap in it I've barely scratched the surface. If you install it, go to his youtube channel and watch his season 7 episodes where he just plays his own modpack and shows you how to get up and running fast. I haven't had any problems witch crashing. I think there are a few bugs / conflicts in the mod pack but nothing game stopping from what I can tell.

I'm watching his season 7 youtube episodes and just doing whatever he does because I have no idea how to use any of the mods ;o) It's great to just be shown quickly how to get up and running as fast as possible instead of googeling and searching wikis for hours. I just bought MC last week and on day 3 I installed direwolfs modpack ;o)

posted a message on Can mods be added to existing games or is it better to restart?

I'm new to MC just bought it a few days ago. I keep finding mods I want to try and each time I have just restarted a new game. I'm currently running a 1.7.10 game (seems like most of the awesome mods are for this version). I'm currently running thaumcraft, roguelike dungeons, forestry, botania, buildcraft, extra utilities, ropeplus, damage indicators, better pvp, & magic bees. And I just found more I want to add ;o) like archmagus, bloodmagic, sanguimancy, and probably by the time someone responds to this thread I'll have 5 more I want to add. I'm just wondering if, in most cases, you can add a mod to an existing game without any technical problems or is it better to start a new game, especially if you are adding a large batch of new mods?

Either go to video options and reduce your view distance below 16 or delete the options.txt file in your minecraft folder.

Ahaha, it worked! Glad it was a simple fix, thank you.

posted a message on Thaumcraft 6.1.BETA26 [no longer being developed]

Having trouble getting this mod to work. I first went through a big pain in the butt when I had my 1.8 mod jars in the mod folder along with the thaumcraft jar, and eventually figured out there needs to be only 1.7.10 mod jars in there when starting up. I've now gotten to the singleplayer start screen where it says I'm playing MC 1.7.10, 5 mods are loaded: minecraft coder pack, forge mod loader, minecraft forge, baubles, and Thaumcraft. But when I generate a new world it crashes.

I went through this process when installing --

    1. I created a new profile which used MC version 1.7.10

    2. I installed forge for MC 1.7.10

    3. I edited the profile and told it to use the release 1.7.10 forge ....etc

    3. I dragged the Thaumcraft jar file over to the appdata/roaming/.minecraft/mods folder.

    4. After several failed attempted starts I tried removing all the other jars in the mod folder, and this allowed me to start up finally and get to the screen where it says MC 1.7.10, 5 mods loaded etc...

    5. I attempted to create a new world 3x and each time it crashed.

Any suggestion how to get it working?

posted a message on Roguelike Dungeons

I loved the mod for the first couple hours, but the hidden spawners are just too brutal. I literally spent the last 6 hours trying to fight my way to a few chests and trying to find the spawners. All I could do was dig through walls and build new walls everywhere to try to survive all the monster spam. Add to this the frustration of dealing with a tiny inventory and no way to delete items. I had to just give up and it still took me another 2 hours to get out of the dungeon after I gave up. Now I don't know if I ever want to go in one of your dungeons again...it's too much of a commitment. It's like I have to ask myself "do I want to play minecraft tonight or spend the next 6 hours frantically clicking my mouse and getting tendonitis fighting monster spam in the roguelike dungeon, while searching for over an hour for one spawner?" I guess I both love and hate your mod ;o) I just don't know if I can handle another session like the one I just played. It was physically and mentally exhausting...

posted a message on Is this a problem with vanilla or one of the two mods I just installed? Mobs spawning inside house...

Hi, I'm getting a weird problem of mobs spawning inside my house and I'd like to try to figure out if it is a vanilla bug / feature or one of the two mods I just installed. I only have played MC vanilla for maybe a dozen hours and never had this happen once. I then installed the roguelike dungeons mod and the ruins mod. As soon as I built my first house mobs keep spawning inside. It sucks because a creeper just snuck up behind me in my secure house while I was looking through my chests and he exploded and took out all my chests....

I figured it might be better to post here rather than the mod threads since probably many of you have tried those two mods mentioned and/or have experienced this problem in vanilla. So anyone can shed some light on this?
