Really simple, open up the launcher and in the button left hit new profile and rename it to something like snapshot then tick the box that says "enable experimental..." then hit save profile.
You should then be able to switch between playing the snapshot and 1.6 pretty easily.

With the new snapshot coming out yesterday I took the time to fly around and try and figure out what was changed and added.
Found most of the new biomes and talked about some of the new blocks, potions and enchantments.
I think I covered at least most of it, but there's still probably tons that I missed.

Actually it makes all sorts of noises if you look in that video I posted above I clicked it five or six times and got a new sound each time including footsteps and the sound of gathering XP.
I have no clue what this could be hinting at though since we already have more sound options.
Edit: looks like this has already been replied to.
I'm still curious as to what all this super secretiveness could lead to though.

I basically view it the same as I viewed it coming over to the xbox360, it's great that more players are going to get access to it that typically don't play games on a computer and are more dependent on consoles or have large amounts of friends who only play on consoles.
But I don't really feel the need to own two copies of the same game.

To be honest I'm surprised minecraft has kept up with all these new updates for so long, eventually though I'm sure mojang will want to shift their focus onto some of their newer games.
