Basically turn minecraft into every other adventure game on the market.

No, turn Survival into the game it's supposed to be. Creative is the mode for being purely creative. Survival is supposed to be the mode where you use your creativity to overcome obstacles presented by the game. That isn't currently the case since every time some exploit makes its way into the game or something changes to make things easier, there is an outcry to not fix it "for the sake of creativity". There are a number of people who simply don't want to be bothered with the Survival aspects of the game, yet refuse to play in Creative.

And even with my suggestions, Minecraft still differs greatly from any other adventure game on the market. And if anything, it would encourage new kinds of creativity that you don't currently see in the game because of the challenges it would present.

It's actually the other way around...

Have to agree with that. Most of the topics I've seen are started by people from beta or later claiming to speak for the "veterans". Then you get a bunch of alpha and infdev people jumping in and telling them to speak for themselves because they certainly don't speak for us.

Anybody who's been around that long knows that Minecraft is constantly evolving and not everything that makes it into the game is going to please everybody. You take the good with the bad and accept that in an open world game like this, not all features will appeal to everybody, nor should they. There are things I don't care for in the game, but I'm not going to take away somebody else's fun when I can simply ignore a feature that has no impact on the game as I play it.

That's not to say that no amount of complaining is ever warranted. Glitches, balance issues, and unplanned exploits are going to be a norm with a small development team and no game testers. That's not really a nostalgia thing, though.

I'd rather see them change visibility on water so that you can't see more then 3 or 4 blocks unless you're submerged or looking through an adjacent glass block or pane. The splotches don't bug me too much and could serve as the groundwork for aquatic vegetation.

    Quote from Senorpigman

I thought about and it might be wells for pigman villagers, implying that they said that they were adding them as villagers a long time ago :smile.gif:

I kinda doubt it. They never said they were adding pigmen villagers. Someone suggested it and Notch just liked the idea. The original concept was for goblin villagers.

posted a message on Minecraft feels too...Lifeless.
I think the quantity of mobs is fine, but some tweaks could be made to make them work better. In a way, the addition of ocelots could pave the way for more biome specific passive mobs. Imagine if we had bison wandering the plains, wild boars in the swamps, and mountain goats or sheep up in the mountains with chickens wandering around a variety of biomes. These animals would have different models and textures than the farm variety and maybe even different AI, but when tamed with wheat or some other element would become the farm variety. It would add a lot to the atmosphere of different biomes, but wouldn't add pointless extra mobs as the different models are really just retextured and slightly altered versions of the existing mobs.

As someone else mentioned, a system like mAtmos could also add some life to the world. You don't necessarily need physical animals, but simple bird and insect noises give an impression of life. Of course, I'd also like to see the wind effects, lava noises, echos underground and dripping or sizzling when near water or lava underground. It would also be nice if water only made the gurgling noise when you were close to water in motion.

I'm sure we'll see additional mobs added, there was talk of adding monkeys, before, but I don't think they need to get carried away with a lot of mobs when they likely won't have much use apart from being simple duplicates of existing mobs. Although I would love to see the cooking/food system expanded on significantly with different kinds of food that the player can grow, raise, and craft for different effects (or possibly with a retooled hunger system).

I also think hostile mobs during the day is a bad idea. Part of the challenge of Minecraft is rushing through that first day trying to prepare yourself for the first night. Since the worlds are random and there is no real rhyme or reason to where you start, some people will find it incredibly hard when they start a new game in a hostile biome and end up having to restart their maps because of an unbalanced difficulty curve.

At night, that's a different matter altogether, though, and it may be interesting if people have to develop different strategies to survive in different biomes due to differences in enemies and enemy AI based on the location, but I think hostile mobs should still be restricted to the night so players have the buffer starting out to prepare.

posted a message on Is it just me, or is Jeb better for Minecraft than Notch?
It's just you. People seem to completely miss the fact that most of what was added prior to Jeb taking the helm were all things that the fan community had demanded. They also seem to miss the fact that the vast majority of what Jeb has added since the launch are things that were originally supposed to be in the Adventure Update, but didn't make the cut due to the deadline. Even if Notch had stayed at the helm, these same updates would have been made since they were already slated to be made.

Of course, since it's not Notch, anymore (even though most of the work prior to launch was done by Jeb, anyway) and the launch has passed, we're all suddenly more patient. Nothing's really changed and topics like this are more pointless than ever.

I think people are expecting a lot more out of mob AI than they're going to get. I seriously doubt we'll be getting much more than some basic pathfinding and maybe skeletons trying to keep their distance. It's really unlikely we're going to see creepers hiding behind trees, enemies fighting as groups or ambushing you.

The only time unbalance becomes a problem is in competitive gaming.

Sorry, but you're just dead wrong on that one. Balance is of extreme importance in single player and co-op games. Properly balancing risk vs. reward is what makes a game challenging, lasting, and satisfying. And as it's been said in other topics, the whole point of having multiple difficulty levels is to offer settings that appeal to both casual players and more experienced and skilled players. The more skilled players should not be forced to handicap themselves by ignoring major game features (that were designed with the type of gameplay they are looking for in mind, no less) in order to find the game even remotely challenging.

posted a message on Minecraft 1.0 is completely Unbalanced.
    Quote from 0wolfblitz0

The point I was trying to make is this: What exact difficulty setting do you want Mojang to add to the game? Do you want monsters to do two hearts more damage than they currently do? Should iron armor only decrease incoming damage by 1/3? Just saying that you want things to be better balanced without offering a way to do that isn't very helpful to anybody.

Actually, it is. We're not talking about simple disapproval of a feature and demanding it's removal, we're pointing out a balance issue with the game. It's easy to notice that things are off, but it's hard to say exactly what changes need to be made to make things work without spending time play testing changes to the new system. At the very least, I think enemies should do +1 heart of damage each and full diamond armor (no enchantments) shouldn't reduce damage more than 50% on Hard. Without actually making the changes and trying it out, though, it's just shooting in the dark.

This is getting rather pointless since you seem to think that not using armor to make things harder is game breaking. I happen to think it's an acceptable way to make the game harder since I've been putting limits on myself in every game I've beaten since I started gaming on my PC.

It is game breaking. The whole point of survival mode is to use the game mechanics to help you survive against the hostile mobs. I enjoy playing the game. It's not fun for me when the difficulty is ramped down so far that half of the game is completely pointless.

If I want a fighting game, I'll play Battlefield or Call of Duty. If I want a fighting game where I have to worry about resources, I'll play Starcraft. If I want to play a game about surviving in a sandbox world where I gather my own resources and fight off a few monsters now and then, I'll play Minecraft. What can I say that will help you understand that I LIKE that there are monsters in Survival mode without that being the only reason I play Minecraft? I play Minecraft because I can build, craft, diggy diggy hole, and fight monsters. The combination is what I enjoy.

I don't care what you personally play to get your combat fix. The fact of the matter is that what sets survival apart from creative is the SURVIVAL aspect, which is dominated by combat elements. It's nice you like a peaceful, building experience and don't give a crap about the combat, but that's not an argument against people who want something more challenging, especially when they aren't asking to change the difficulty across the board or remove the less challenging modes. People aren't asking for a change that will alienate people who are happy with the game now, so I don't see why you even care.
