Someguyfromcrowd posted a message on About the Minecraft turning into a RPG crapMinecraft is no more an RPG than it was before. You are a person trying to survive when faced with suicide shrubs and angry piles of jello. Throwing in a dragon and some enchantments doesn't change that.Posted in: 1.1 Update Discussion
Quote from SkingradThe End is The End follows with credits so yes that is goal whether or not you agree.
Idling on the main menu screen of many games causes the credits to show.
Therefore, the goal of many games is to idle on the main menu screen.

I told you people.
I TOLD YOU good things were on their way with Notch out and Jens in.
I told you, but nooooooooooooooooo. You stood to your false messiah and thought with Notch gone, how can anything good happen?
Wait, what's this? Jens listens to the community and doesn't put in completely stupid and random ****?
Yeah, thought so.
And I thought people would finally stop harassing Notch; Yes, he's gone, and Jeb is doing better things now. But it's been this way for over two months now! Don't you have better things to do than beat a dead horse? People know you are right; stop being so critical of Notch with every opportunity you get.
I shouldn't also have to remind you, but Notch did initially try to change world height, similarly to the Cubic Chunks mod. Of course, it wouldn't be a feasible option, performance being a major issue, though I doubt your opinion of Notch would have changed if he was the one who added it, not Jeb.
I don't see why you hate him so much. He's not lead developer anymore, and hasn't been for months now. Yet you perpetually act like he's the antichrist or something. He's moved on, why can't you? -

Rpsfunkey posted a message on Your Ideas on How to Make Ocelots Better>implying that they weren't made quickly so they could be released in this snapshot. In all honesty Jon probably didn't spend a lot of time on this since he always said he wanted monkeys . . .Posted in: 1.1 Update Discussion
But I just want them to be housecats. Maybe craft a bed from wool where they can sleep [Regenerating health, too] and they also have the ability to catch raw fish in bodies of water. They also eat raw/cooked fish as food.
I don't want it to be an attacking mob for the player. I just want it to be a companion to sooth the souls of all the cat ladies out there. -

Whiplashr posted a message on Should Notch even bother to come back?Ok.. I thought about saying something in the "jeb > greater than notch" thread .. but I let it go. It was borderline.Posted in: 1.1 Update Discussion
But this is just rude. How about a little respect for Notch. He did, after all, create the entire base game himself. You would never have heard of Jeb without Notch.
Jeb being the lead guy right now doesn't mean that Notch is not collaborating in some manner. Even if just in ideas. He's still there, in some capacity.
This whole thing is really childish. Trying to create division between the two lead Minecraft develoeprs.. petty squabbling about who is best.. It's like grade school.
It's times like this I realize the truth of what people say, of how young/immature this forum is. If in mentality if nothing else. Way too much drama and cliques and squabbling! - To post a comment, please login.

No, turn Survival into the game it's supposed to be. Creative is the mode for being purely creative. Survival is supposed to be the mode where you use your creativity to overcome obstacles presented by the game. That isn't currently the case since every time some exploit makes its way into the game or something changes to make things easier, there is an outcry to not fix it "for the sake of creativity". There are a number of people who simply don't want to be bothered with the Survival aspects of the game, yet refuse to play in Creative.
And even with my suggestions, Minecraft still differs greatly from any other adventure game on the market. And if anything, it would encourage new kinds of creativity that you don't currently see in the game because of the challenges it would present.

Have to agree with that. Most of the topics I've seen are started by people from beta or later claiming to speak for the "veterans". Then you get a bunch of alpha and infdev people jumping in and telling them to speak for themselves because they certainly don't speak for us.
Anybody who's been around that long knows that Minecraft is constantly evolving and not everything that makes it into the game is going to please everybody. You take the good with the bad and accept that in an open world game like this, not all features will appeal to everybody, nor should they. There are things I don't care for in the game, but I'm not going to take away somebody else's fun when I can simply ignore a feature that has no impact on the game as I play it.
That's not to say that no amount of complaining is ever warranted. Glitches, balance issues, and unplanned exploits are going to be a norm with a small development team and no game testers. That's not really a nostalgia thing, though.

I kinda doubt it. They never said they were adding pigmen villagers. Someone suggested it and Notch just liked the idea. The original concept was for goblin villagers.

As someone else mentioned, a system like mAtmos could also add some life to the world. You don't necessarily need physical animals, but simple bird and insect noises give an impression of life. Of course, I'd also like to see the wind effects, lava noises, echos underground and dripping or sizzling when near water or lava underground. It would also be nice if water only made the gurgling noise when you were close to water in motion.
I'm sure we'll see additional mobs added, there was talk of adding monkeys, before, but I don't think they need to get carried away with a lot of mobs when they likely won't have much use apart from being simple duplicates of existing mobs. Although I would love to see the cooking/food system expanded on significantly with different kinds of food that the player can grow, raise, and craft for different effects (or possibly with a retooled hunger system).
I also think hostile mobs during the day is a bad idea. Part of the challenge of Minecraft is rushing through that first day trying to prepare yourself for the first night. Since the worlds are random and there is no real rhyme or reason to where you start, some people will find it incredibly hard when they start a new game in a hostile biome and end up having to restart their maps because of an unbalanced difficulty curve.
At night, that's a different matter altogether, though, and it may be interesting if people have to develop different strategies to survive in different biomes due to differences in enemies and enemy AI based on the location, but I think hostile mobs should still be restricted to the night so players have the buffer starting out to prepare.

Of course, since it's not Notch, anymore (even though most of the work prior to launch was done by Jeb, anyway) and the launch has passed, we're all suddenly more patient. Nothing's really changed and topics like this are more pointless than ever.

Sorry, but you're just dead wrong on that one. Balance is of extreme importance in single player and co-op games. Properly balancing risk vs. reward is what makes a game challenging, lasting, and satisfying. And as it's been said in other topics, the whole point of having multiple difficulty levels is to offer settings that appeal to both casual players and more experienced and skilled players. The more skilled players should not be forced to handicap themselves by ignoring major game features (that were designed with the type of gameplay they are looking for in mind, no less) in order to find the game even remotely challenging.
3
Actually, it is. We're not talking about simple disapproval of a feature and demanding it's removal, we're pointing out a balance issue with the game. It's easy to notice that things are off, but it's hard to say exactly what changes need to be made to make things work without spending time play testing changes to the new system. At the very least, I think enemies should do +1 heart of damage each and full diamond armor (no enchantments) shouldn't reduce damage more than 50% on Hard. Without actually making the changes and trying it out, though, it's just shooting in the dark.
It is game breaking. The whole point of survival mode is to use the game mechanics to help you survive against the hostile mobs. I enjoy playing the game. It's not fun for me when the difficulty is ramped down so far that half of the game is completely pointless.
I don't care what you personally play to get your combat fix. The fact of the matter is that what sets survival apart from creative is the SURVIVAL aspect, which is dominated by combat elements. It's nice you like a peaceful, building experience and don't give a crap about the combat, but that's not an argument against people who want something more challenging, especially when they aren't asking to change the difficulty across the board or remove the less challenging modes. People aren't asking for a change that will alienate people who are happy with the game now, so I don't see why you even care.
