Hi there, ZaffreAqua. I asked you a question before.

    This is what I said:

"Wait really? Glow squid was the one you voted for? I'm not complaining but I'm just curious. Why the glow squid? And why not the Iceologer?"

Of the 3 mobs to vote for, glow squid got my vote and I'm glad it got the majority of the votes too. Fitting, considering underground bodies of water will be a thing!

For me, the underground was enough of a doozy as is, even before the minor additions from 1.8-1.16. I feel like this is going to be overwhelming, and I agree some of it 'feels' modded, but maybe that's a good thing.

I thought the underground was said to be underwhelming post-1.6.4.I personally never noticed but some people say that ever since 1.6.4 the caves were downgraded somehow.

All popular Minecraft Youtubers that talk about the 1.17 update feels like they are doing it because of a sponsorship. It feels like a biased video about the update because of a sponsorship contract is preventing them from saying critical/negative things.

I hate the spikes, the bundles, the stupid telescope, the archaeology stuff, and new pots. They feel like things you would easily find in modded Minecraft from 1.8.

    • Spikes: I would expect 3D spikes or something, but no, instead we have 2D spikes just like how plants are presented. I hate how thick they are and feel like a total eye-sore.
    • Bundles: They have the exact same functionality as shulker except worse. The main problem I have with this is the UI of it, instead of seeing the exact number or what items that are inside it, you just get a blob of items and manually have to count them.
    • Telescope: We never needed and we still never needed it. I feel like it is equivalent to clocks, they are worthless other than to have them on a item frame for decoration.
    • Archaeology stuff: Why would we need this in a update? This is straight up feels like it is from a archaeology/Jurassic Park mod!! There is no purpose of this stupid new feature other than getting expensive items from dirt/gravel OR being able to create a pot.
    • Pots: This feels like a custom block that a map developer would make for their map. It's cool I guess? But I find it still very dumb.

Also is it me or does it seem there will be a BIG performance problem?? The brushes for example, it feels like it turns dirt/gravel/etc into snow, where there are multiple layers of something. I feel like if there is too many of these different layer blocks it will have a performance problem.

Just when the update was announced and someone is already salty about it.I respect your opinion but the snapshot isn't even out yet so at least be cautiously optimistic about the update rather than be pessimistic.

Is it relevant for me to show this thread?: https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-java-edition/discussion/3031866-why-i-believe-minecraft-needs-a-serious-change

Because it talks about how recent updates aren't taking the path they should. Is 1.17 really gonna be like that?

Honestly, my biggest issue with the entire update isn't the update itself, it's the speed. We went from multiple updates a year from 1-2 developers to ONE update a year with THIRTY developers. It's kind of pathetic.

Interesting how your issue isn't the update itself. So does that mean your fine with archeology, the telescope etc.?

Everything in the update was great. Apart from archeology which doesn't seem to fit with the game. We'll have to wait and see until its implemented i guess.

How does archeology not fit with the game?

No, I meant that as the number 1 reason people voted for the glow squid: because it glowed and they liked it. Then there were those who didn't want iceologers, then probably people who were influenced by Dream or Mr. Beast.

Hang on, what do you mean there were people influenced by Dream and Mr. Beast? Where was this from exactly and when did it happen?

Everyone! The Caves & Cliffs Update A.K.A. The Cave Update we've been hoping for has just been announced! What do you all think of the features revealed so far?

And BTW mods this might have something to do about this thread since it's about the direction of the game, I'm just asking if the cave update has affected anything and what these people think of it so please don't delete my comment.

Sounds like it, since I haven't seen any other real reasoning to vote for a retextured squid.

The real puzzling thing is how the Iceologer would ever be like the Phantom.

I was in the official Discord for the past few days. The most common answer I saw was they wanted the glowing mob. But quite a few said they didn't want to vote for another hostile mob lest it turn into a Phantom 2.0, and there were a few reasons for not voting for the moobloom (mainly they didn't use bees/honey themselfes or them thinking flower fields were too rare to warrant a unique mob).

I personally said moobloom, but I'm learning to use datapacks to create custom mobs, so I'm just going to add in mooblooms and iceologers myself.

    Quote from Ptolemy2002»

I think they just liked the look

So wait, the community, or at least most of them, actually preferred the glow squid over the Iceologer? What made them ever think that the Iceologer would ever be anything like the Phantom? And did they seriously vote glow squid just for looks?

This is a much better mob vote compared to 1.13. The 1.13 vote was four really big concepts which should not be in the hands of the players. This vote is for much lesser additions but the fact that they thought that anything from Minecraft Worlds could compete with any of the hostiles from Dungeons is a joke. Dungeons has a ton of interesting concepts while Worlds only has reskinned animals. On the other hand it might be better that way. Having three enemies from dungeons competing to get in the game would be a complete dumpster fire.

How and why would having three enemies from dungeons being chosen for the mob vote be a complete dumpster fire?

It's worth to note that if you're the creator of something, you're never going to make everybody happy. That's just the way it is. Especially with something like Minecraft. The longer something goes on for and the more people follow it exacerbates this drastically. Minecraft has both of those in spades. 11 years and the most popular game of all time will do that. Different people have different ideas and interests and impress that upon their expectations.

It is kinda sad, but it is what it is. I think they could have done more given the resources at their disposal, BUT I'm pleased with what we have. The nether is more interesting now. It's a fun place to explore, with haunting ambience and wonderful music, with new rewards and resources. They've accomplished what they set out to do.

Mods and modders will always outdo the main developers of a game. I've seen it time and time again. Most of these modders don't have to deal with the spaghetti code of the core game, and passion guides them. KSP is a particularly prominent example, for one, though having met them, some of the modders there are terrible people.

I understand that, despite what I've said I too am actually content with what we have. These updates are still quite as interesting as the past updates(if not more interesting).Still really wish Mojang would do more though, I feel like they've only scratched the surface of what mods could do, but I believe that they are slowly getting there with each update. However, I feel like they should really focus more on overhauling certain past features that need a rework, like beacons.
