Dec 20, 2010Stranger still. I use the Colemak keyboard layout so instead of WASD, I uses WARS. Each time I play the Win Client and it crashes I have to edit the controls again. No biggy. I did the lastServer setting and it works unless I exit via a crash.Posted in: Legacy Support
After the last crash I tried browser mode. It remembers my controls! Awesome :smile.gif:
Maybe it will remember more after a blowup.
It's just a wrapper around the same JAR isn't it? Why would they behave differently?
Dec 20, 2010I've searched and round various threads on similar subjects but there are so many posts the signal-to-noise gets in the way.Posted in: Legacy Support
I hit ESC to get the "saving game" screen every 5 to 10 minutes. When the game crashed last night, the next time I started it I was in the same position but my entire session (2 hours) of work was undone. Poop.
Same thing tonight.
Found a big still lava lake, turned it into obsidian. It looked awesome but I have no way to mine it yet. I start tunneling and building up the area, saving, continuing. Crash. Restart the game, appear in the same place. Die. Respawn. Return to my tunnel and I'm right back to losing another 2 hours.
I believe if I exit the game completely, every 15 minutes or so, that will preserve the work. But the "Saving game" is not to be relied upon
At least until a few hours from now :smile.gif:
Edit: Oh wow! This is bizarre. I dug all the way back out to my Obsidian pool and it's there, with obvious signs that I was working. But sizable segments that I completed over the session are missing, while others I did in between those are intact. It's the cows messing with me.

Dec 18, 2010Have you double checked that the transaction is still valid?Posted in: Legacy Support
A paypal transaction can be valid today but fail a week from now because of various delays.
When that happens your account would be disabled until a transaction was done that completed.
Dec 18, 2010The paypal receipt contains a transaction ID.Posted in: Legacy Support
If that ID is present in your email they can verify the account easily. (Don't post the transaction ID here)
Without the ID it would be like walking into a car dealership and asking for the keys to your car, without any paperwork showing you bought one.
Provided there is an account, and you really did forget all the other details like email, username, etc., the paypal history will show a transaction record and will verify that it did or did not go through.
I'm waiting on transaction verification myself as paypal charged my bank account despite me making my credit card the backup to my paypal balance. S**t happens with Paypal.
If no transaction processed you can just buy it and you're not out any money from a previous purchase.
Dec 17, 2010You're frustrated. It sucks. But you haven't been shafted.Posted in: Legacy Support
Until recently it was ONE guy who wrote a cool little game he thought people might like.
And then BOOM. He had 300k users. Then 500k. Then 750k.
Imagine if you tried to handle 750,000 customers and their problems by yourself.
There are call-centers with 100 people on staff for a customer base that size.
Even with the influx of money that the game has generated, it takes time for a one man project to develop the infrastructure to handle the load. People need to be hired. To hire people you need to jump through hoops if you want to avoid liability.
And then there's the whole *ALPHA* designation on the product. It's not final. It's not even in Beta (that starts Monday), which is the testing phase once the development of a project incorporates the "locked in" features the design spec calls for.
This is a bumpy ride. It's going to be awesome some days and miserable on others. It will work out. Your kid will get to enjoy the game.
And remember. This is Minecraft Alpha.
Dec 17, 2010If you have a bank account linked to your Paypal and don't want to use it because of the delay, beware before using a gift card or credit card.Posted in: Legacy Support
I have an empty bank account that I linked to Paypal. I put money in it as needed. That way if Paypal gets hacked it doesn't siphon any cash away.
When I went to buy the game I wanted to use my credit card. Paypal indicated that it would take money from my balance and then get the rest from my backup. Excellent.
Except on the receipt it said it went to paypal balance and THEN the bank, before going to credit card.
So I got hit with a 40 dollar NSF fee. Poop. At least the transaction should still go through on the credit card.
So anyone using a card to speed up the purchase process, make sure you don't have a bank account active.
