I haven't been doing much CTM mapping lately but here are my more recent creations. Most are pretty WIP, but some feedback would still be awesome.

Woah 1k posts. I haven't been active here very much lately, but I'm hoping to be active here more as a I build more stuff. Building is really fun.

If anyone with a solid understanding of new mapmaking features (NBT stuff, complex redstone, custom spawners, command blocks) wants to possibly form a partnership, a sort of "I build the levels, you add cool features" deal, then PM me asap, I'd be really interested.

Getting back into terraforming is really fun, I forgot how much I loved making custom trees.

Also, welcome to the hilariously unfinished "Brimstone Quarry"

The little space ship thing will eventually be a mining drill.

Sorry for the rapid post and screenshot spam, but here's the progress I made on the build tonight. I won't be posting this many screenshots through the whole building of the map, don't worry.

@chipmunk - That looks great! I'll be sure to give it a try soon. I love the vibe in the second pic.
Haven't played MC in a while but I'm trying to get back into building CTMs. Here's the fruits of my labor so far:
Kinda just a pretty shell, although I do have a pretty neat plan for this area. Going to do a lot more work today and tomorrow and post what comes out of it, should be interesting.
Edit: After a little bit of screwing around with worldedit...

AllUWant is 1.7.10, unless there is some secret development build I am unaware of. I would highly recommend building your own Spigot server with NBTEditor. NBTEditor is quick to learn and incredibly easy to use. http://mcstacker.bimbimma.com/ <--- MCStacker is another fantastic entity creator. It does just about everything entity and bypasses the work involved in learning the Spigot stuff.

I'll give a Spigot server a shot, I know that making a Bukkit server for Voxelsniper was the best decision I ever made in my mapmaking 'career'.

I've been trying to come back to making CTMs for a while now, now that I've started going through my yearly Zisteau-triggered Minecraft withdrawls, but I managed to forget my password and possibly email. Also, my 1/2 done CTM was on my old computer, which has likely been recycled into aluminum cans by now.

Can anyone fill me in on the big events (new maps, new mapmaking tools, juicy gossip) that went down in the past - checks post history - 361 days?

Also, dang, it says I've been here for 2 years and 7 months. Out of all the game forums and communities I've been on, I gotta say that this is the most creative and welcoming one.

I just realized I haven't posted a screenshot in a really long time, so here's what I've been working on, Somnia Atoll. Going to trim all the vines before releasing the map, don't worry.

On the topic of colored fleecy boxes, here's the boxes I'm using for my map. The clay corresponds to whatever core is inside.

Probably going to tweak the design a little, but I'm pretty happy with it so far. Might up the size to 7x7 instead of 5x5.

Still working hard on the area I want to show for post 1000!

    My witch farm is finished!

Here are the drops obtained in about 15 minutes.

If anybody needs glowstone/redstone/gunpowder/sugar/spidereyes/bottles/sticks, just talk to me and we can work out a deal. If you want to use the farm for yourself, just climb up the smoothstone pillar and stand on the glowstone block at y:155.

I've already slabbed most of the swamp, now I just have the daunting task of clearing the jungle and slabbing the landscape.

If you want to give me a hand in slabbing the area/ cleaning the jungle, that'd be amazing. There are chests with some smoothstone to use. I'd also appreciate donations of smoothstone, but it's not a huge necessity.

To get there, go through the passageway on the right side of my portal (the one that cuts through Del's old rail line). The chest to collect the drops is down a ladder near the portal, feel free to take any drops that you AFKed for, I'm going to put in a proper storage area and sorting system soon.

I'm not directing this at you specifically, but there is something that I noticed a while ago and your post reminded me of it.
A lot of people who complain about areas being too tedious are under that impression because they don't know how to fight efficiently, which makes them spend way more time in an area than necessary. For example, the first area in my second map can easily be defeated in less than 2 hours, which is not very much considering there are multiple sub-areas and 5 different objectives.
That being said, I can still understand why some people don't like those types of maps in general. I'm just wondering why those people would download a map that has screenshots of giant areas below it and is advertised with the sentence "Are you looking for huge, challenging, heavily combat-oriented CTM maps?".

It's not so much that the map is bad, just that I don't enjoy it. I'm not usually the kind of person who gets into the meta-game and spends a lot of time on strategy in a video game. I typically use video games as a way to relax and chill out for a while, so I enjoy laid back CTMs more.

Despite me not enjoying what I've played so far, I'll admit there are a lot of map-making lessons to be learned from your maps, most importantly the importance of varied gameplay.

I've conquered VF1, Legendary and Pantheon, so I'll probably get around to finishing RC2 when I'm up for a long-term challenge and have a free weekend or two.

    Here you go everyone.
    -snip-

Try adding some blocks into the stone to make it less bland. Also try making your building less square and more interesting.

Some of the pictures have really obvious circular shapes from MCedit brush strokes, try using erosion brushes to fix those up a bit.
